Chapter 24: Self-Detonation!
Chapter 24: Self-Detonation!
Once upon a time, Liu Xin had been just another ordinary disciple of the Primordial Sacred Sect—living the life of a workhorse grinding through tasks, cultivation, and loan repayments.
That all changed after an unexpected encounter.
It began with a bounty mission issued by a True Transmission Disciple, who sought to explore an ancient cultivation cave but needed expendable scouts.
Unaware of the full context, Liu Xin joined the expedition lured by the reward. By the time he realized he was just cannon fodder, it was too late. Forced by the True Transmission Disciple to enter the cave, he discovered to his shock that all the cave’s ancient restrictions had no effect on him.
He walked through unimpeded and claimed the hidden treasure.
It was a golden casket containing the Primordial Dao Treatise and the Primordial Qi Myriad Spirit Banner. Beside them lay a final message from the cave’s late master.
The master, known as the "Primordial Hermit", declared that these treasures were intended for a fated cultivator—a True Transmission of the Holy Sect whose name included the character 'Xin' (Xin).
But Liu Xin wasn’t that person.
In his letter, the Primordial Hermit raged against the Primordial Sacred Sect’s shamelessness, accusing them of seizing his legacy through false pretexts. He had deliberately twisted fate to send his inheritance to Liu Xin instead—a true outsider.
The letter also warned Liu Xin of impending life-or-death calamities, leaving behind methods to survive within the cave.
Originally, the fake "Xin" wasn’t the real chosen one, which was why Liu Xin became expendable—a mere treasure-delivering page. But through the Hermit’s design, the tables turned. Liu Xin seized the opportunity, even slaying the True Transmission who’d been sent to claim it.
It was a night of heart-stopping peril.
At dawn, only Liu Xin emerged from the Primordial Hermit’s cave, reborn. The True Transmission, however, vanished.
But Liu Xin hadn’t killed him outright.
With the Hermit’s hidden techniques, he refined the man’s essence into his most powerful banner spirit.
The banner flared. A figure in black robes stepped forth—not immediately confronting Lv Yang, but gazing around with nostalgic disdain.
"Survival of the fittest, disciples devouring disciples… Holy Sect remains as ruthless as ever", the figure sneered.
"Senior Brother, long time no see", Liu Xin bowed.
"Still chasing after enemies you can’t handle?" The black-robed figure scoffed. "The Primordial Dao Treatise wasted on you."
"Not at all", Liu Xin replied calmly. "This one is a sword cultivator who mastered the Heavenly Demon Blood Transformation Ray. I truly can’t match him."
"Heavenly Demon Blood Transformation Ray?" The figure’s expression sharpened. "Whoever mastered that art deserves credit… though they clearly chose the wrong path. This makes the third time I’ve intervened."
"Senior Brother sees clearly", Liu Xin nodded. "After this, I’ll release you to reincarnation. With your merits and foundation, you’ll surely return to cultivation in your next life."
"Good."
Only then did the black-robed figure turn toward Lv Yang.
Lv Yang and Xiao Shiye remained composed, but Qingchen Immortaless’ eyes widened as she stared at the figure.
She wasn’t some clueless novice.
At first, the face seemed vaguely familiar. But when the figure’s aura erupted, recognition struck like lightning.
"Chen Xin’an? Senior Brother Chen!?"
The missing True Transmission—the son of Heaven-Mending Peak’s master! After his disappearance, Heaven-Mending Peak’s master had raged, personally unraveling fate threads to no avail.
Never had she imagined he’d be trapped in Liu Xin’s grasp.
Qingchen’s expression shifted. Instinctively, she stepped back—just as a blade pierced her chest.
She died instantly.
"A pity. Since you saw too much, I can’t let you live."
As her corpse fell, the surrounding formation wavered. But Liu Xin waved his banner, swallowing her body. Moments later, Qingchen emerged unscathed—now a banner spirit.
Though bound by new limitations, she retained her formation expertise, quickly stabilizing the formation.
Meanwhile, the black-robed Chen Xin’an approached Lv Yang.
"Hmph?" Lv Yang’s eyes narrowed. Chen’s cultivation level matched his—Refining Qi Seventh Layer—but his aura felt vastly different.
Chen Xin’an glanced back. "The Yin-Yang Grand Harmony Manual is a dual cultivation technique requiring a thousand partners. Yet your energy feels impure… Not cultivated through proper means. The Yin-Yang Dragon-Tiger Qi you possess should be top-tier, yet it barely reaches sixth."
Lv Yang’s instincts screamed.
"Who are you?"
"Chen Xin’an. I’m bound by fate here. But if you escape and deliver my message to Heaven-Mending Peak, my father will reward you handsomely."
The words hadn’t finished before Chen struck.
His palm pressed down, merging with heaven and earth. A tidal wave of energy surged, resonating with the world itself!
Lv Yang’s pupils contracted—not from the power, but from the sudden awareness of his own Qi’s flaws.
In that instant, he understood.
"My Dragon-Tiger Union Yin-Yang Grand Harmony Manual isn’t the pinnacle… Heaven-Mending Peak holds higher techniques! This man must be their True Transmission!"
His guess was spot-on.
As Heaven-Mending Peak’s master’s son, Chen Xin’an cultivated the Supplemental Heaven Sutra—an evolved form of dual cultivation. While ordinary techniques relied on partners, his merged with heaven and earth itself, forging Supplemental Heaven Qi ranked among the rarest third-tier energies.
Even without special techniques, that third-tier Qi alone overwhelmed Lv Yang.
Liu Xin smiled confidently.
No one knew Chen Xin’an’s strength better than him. In his eyes, even tenfold stronger, Lv Yang couldn’t rival Chen.
"He’ll win."
Liu Xin concluded—unaware of Xiao Shiye’s darkening gaze studying him from afar.
Xiao Shiye’s mind raced.
"I never wanted to use this… but you’ve forced my hand."
He knew his weakness. His treasures had kept him competitive, but now they weren’t enough.
A torrent of radiant spiritual energy erupted, drawing Liu Xin’s attention—even halting Chen and Lv Yang’s clash.
From the pouch flew a small tower.
Forged of gold, nine-tiered, its summit radiated a humanoid light—alive with intelligence.
"A spiritual treasure!?"
Lv Yang gaped, but Liu Xin and Chen Xin’an shouted in unison, faces paling.
Treasures required masters to wield. But spiritual treasures possessed consciousness—they could grow stronger independently.
Xiao Shiye clenched a seal. The tower swelled.
"Damn you!" Chen Xin’an roared, his composure shattered. He realized Xiao Shiye meant to detonate it.
Liu Xin nearly spat blood.
Such treasures—gifts of heaven—were rare even for Foundation Building experts. Xiao Shiye had one… and dared to self-destruct it!?
Worse, the tower didn’t resist. It accelerated willingly, leaving no time to stop it.
"Boom!"
Blinding light consumed everything.
