Chapter 24: One-Third Elite Progress
Chapter 24: One-Third Elite Progress
"Hmph, this training ground is really something. The improvement it provides is almost rule-like. If I had the corresponding knowledge, I’d definitely want to study it more closely," Qin Muye couldn’t help but marvel.
If the training had a progress bar, the hundred magic beasts he was training had now completed one-third of their elite training. Although their strength hadn’t increased, Qin Muye could sense a subtle, yet distinct, aura of seasoned warriors.
It was akin to the transformation from a raw recruit to a battle-hardened veteran.
Otherwise, one might think that a single overwhelming fight could turn a recruit into a veteran. But in reality, today’s battle was more about overwhelming numbers and sheer force, and even Qin Muye, with his attributes and skills, could have charged through it.
So, none of the magic beasts were injured, not even a drop of blood lost. If any of them had been hurt, Qin Muye would have had to investigate whether there was something wrong with their brains.
The training ground had effectively accelerated this process, turning a group of raw recruits into seasoned warriors, even if they weren’t quite at the level of veterans yet. After all, it was only the first day of training, and the results were already mind-boggling.
"Perhaps it’s because they’re all products of the Lord Era," Qin Muye speculated.
Soon, the training was complete. It was around eight or nine in the evening, though Qin Muye couldn’t be sure of the exact time since he had no standard for measuring it. He could only rely on his instincts.
"Master, today’s training is complete," Mo Xue said, leading the hundred magic beasts out of the training ground.
Without hesitation, Qin Muye used the Healing spell. He had already used it five times during the training, even though all the magic beasts were at full health. He didn’t mind, given his ample magic points.
While his magic points recovered at a fixed rate of 10 points per hour, he could also meditate to restore them. This made magic points a non-issue for him.
Mo Xue, on the other hand, could only recover 10 points of magic per day, so he wouldn’t use magic unnecessarily, not even the Magic Eye, which cost 5 points. With only 50 points in total, Mo Xue couldn’t afford to be wasteful.
"Good job. Go rest. Tomorrow morning, we’ll do a simple reconnaissance of the Undead territory. No need to go all out," Qin Muye instructed.
Tomorrow noon, there would be another monster siege, so it was best to conserve their energy. Sweeping the area seemed redundant now.
Qin Muye knew that this was a limitation of their territory. Without vehicles or mounts for rapid movement, they could only cover a hundred kilometers at most in a day, including the return trip.
And they couldn’t spend the entire day just walking, especially since killing wild monsters now depended on luck. The surrounding area had already been cleared by Mo Xue and the magic beasts, so it was more practical to investigate the Undead situation.
One cannot allow others to sleep soundly while one’s own bed is being invaded!
If this Undead force was weak, Qin Muye planned to eliminate it. What was the point of leaving a potential threat so close by?
But if they were strong, he would have to reassess the situation.
There was no point in rushing into a battle he knew he couldn’t win. Why waste time when it would be better to just end it now?
"Yes, Master. You should rest as well," Mo Xue responded, then led the magic beasts back to their quarters.
Now, even at night, there are magical creatures on guard duty, with a new batch of ten creatures every two hours, rotating among those not currently in training.
Things are different now. In the past, there was an invincible protection shield during the beginner phase, ensuring no threats within the territory. Now, it can only defend against wild monsters, not even the native inhabitants. Naturally, someone needs to stand guard.
Qin Muye also returned to his room in the mage tower. What could he possibly do out in the dark? He valued his life and was quite content to stay indoors.
A wise man does not stand beneath a crumbling wall. Why put himself in danger for no reason? Was he bored out of his mind?
"Ah, I feel like I'm going to start losing my hair if this keeps up," Qin Muye sighed. Ever since he discovered that meditation could replace sleep, he hadn't slept in a long time. This was actually a good thing, allowing him to work 23 hours and 45 minutes a day.
Especially after checking the leaderboard today, his pressure only grew.
At his age, he couldn't sleep anyway and had to push himself to the limit.
"But losing hair isn't so bad, as long as I don't go completely bald. I can still deal with it."
Before being pulled into the Era of Lords, he cared a lot about his appearance. Now, it was different. He would readily trade his looks for power, even if it meant losing his hair or suffering disfigurement.
He could choose to give up, but that would only lead to his death.
He didn't know how vast the magic continent was, but he knew how hostile the native inhabitants were toward the gifted lords.
He couldn't even be sure if the other lords, who were supposed to be natural allies, had any ill intentions toward him. A proper game couldn't just have player-versus-environment (PVE) content; it would also have player-versus-player (PVP) elements, even if they hadn't been revealed yet.
So, if he wanted to survive and thrive, he had to constantly grow stronger, whether it was his territory, his troops, or his heroes. He would make changes to maximize his benefits, even if it meant focusing on his heroes and troops rather than himself.
It's true that a blacksmith needs to be strong, but in his current situation, he couldn't even lift a hammer, let alone forge iron. So he had to let the iron forge itself, even transform it into an Iron Man suit to protect him, helping him survive his weak early stages.
He also realized that the core of Era of Lords wasn't personal strength, but the development of a territory, heroes, and troops. It was about building a force from scratch.
He didn't need to be the one to dominate the entire force; he could strengthen the force to bolster himself. This was the path Qin Muye chose.
If he had chosen to be a mage or an elementalist, he might have been able to have the force revere him and achieve greatness, but that would have contradicted the core idea of Era of Lords—the concept of being a lord.
Martial prowess was important, but it didn't have to be his own. It could be embodied in his loyal subordinates, which was why he had decided to cultivate the weak magical creatures.
Now, this decision had paid off.
Magical creatures had a trait of never betraying their lord. Heroes born from magical creatures had a constant 100% loyalty, akin to blind devotion. Apart from being a bit weak, they were nearly perfect subordinates.
But their weakness wasn't a problem. Qin Muye, as the lord, was there to compensate for this flaw.
