Chapter 24: A New Training Begins
Chapter 24: A New Training Begins
The day after, Mu Yue headed to the Hokage Building after finishing his morning classes.
As Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, couldn't always be waiting for him at the school office, he had told Mu Yue to come to the Hokage Tower if he was interested in the tutoring offer.
Mu Yue was briefly stopped at the floor of the Hokage's office, but as he had expected, he was let through once he mentioned that the Third Hokage had summoned him.
Mu Yue knocked on the wooden door of the Hokage's office.
"Lord Third, I've made my decision," Mu Yue stated, clarifying his identity and purpose.
"Ah, Ugusu, come in," the Third's voice called out from within.
As Mu Yue opened the door and stepped inside, he was surprised to find not only the Third Hokage but also Minato Namikaze present.
Minato was equally surprised to see Mu Yue, never expecting to encounter his new neighbor from yesterday at the Hokage's office today.
"This is Teacher Ugusu from the Ninja Academy. He's an exceptional teacher, so much so that I'm considering hiring him as Asuma's tutor," the Third Hokage said, setting down his pipe as he introduced Mu Yue with a smile.
Noticing the expressions on their faces, the Third Hokage asked, "You two know each other?"
Minato nodded. "We're neighbors. Ugusu lives right next door to me."
"What a coincidence," the Third Hokage remarked. "Ugusu, Minato, you two should exchange ideas more often. You're both outstanding ninjas in your respective fields."
"Thank you, but I'm just doing my best," Mu Yue replied humbly.
Minato echoed his sentiment and took his leave, sensing that the Hokage's office wasn't an appropriate place for a casual chat.
Mu Yue shared the same thought, and so he didn't engage in further conversation with Minato.
"Lord Third, after careful consideration, I believe I can spare a few hours on weekends to tutor Asuma if we arrange the timing reasonably," Mu Yue said, giving his answer.
"Good! With you, Ugusu, teaching him, I won't have to worry about Asuma's progress anymore," the Third Hokage said cheerfully, his words filled with trust in Mu Yue.
"I won't let you down, Lord Third. I promise to do my best in tutoring Asuma," Mu Yue replied, his expression filled with gratitude as he affirmed his commitment to the tutoring role.
What followed was a rather standard discussion about payment. The Third Hokage was quite generous, offering 2,000 ryo per hour for a total of eight hours on weekends, to be paid weekly.
Mu Yue set the timing for the tutoring sessions from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Today being Friday, Mu Yue had no classes in the afternoon, so he headed straight to the small river where he usually trained. There, Itachi was practicing Fire Release with Mu Yue's shadow clone.
Ever since effortlessly securing the top rank in their year with that test, Itachi had followed Mu Yue's suggestion to use a shadow clone to attend classes while the original body came here to train during school hours.
Upon Mu Yue's arrival, he dismissed the shadow clone. Itachi, sensing the presence of Mu Yue's true body, also paused his training to greet him. "Teacher Mu Yue."
Mu Yue nodded and handed Itachi a handkerchief with a smile. "Take a break and wipe the sweat off your forehead."
Itachi thanked him and used the handkerchief to wipe the sweat from his forehead and neck before joining Mu Yue to sit against a large tree.
Mu Yue proceeded to give Itachi an appraisal.
Name: Uchiha Itachi
Chakra: 580
Potential: SS-
Compared to a month ago, Itachi's chakra had improved significantly. This was due to both increased intensity in training and Itachi's physical development, which would lead to even faster progress in the future.
However, Mu Yue was somewhat dissatisfied with the simplicity of the panel, which only displayed chakra and potential.
After resting for a while, Mu Yue spoke, "Itachi, starting today, we'll be changing the training plan. We'll begin practicing the Body Flicker Technique and enhancing your chakra control."
Teleportation Jutsu was not actually the name of a specific technique but rather a broad category of jutsu. Any technique that achieved a teleportation effect could be called a Teleportation Jutsu.
On the higher end, the Flying Thunder God Jutsu, a space-time ninjutsu, could be considered a Teleportation Jutsu, as well as the Lightning Release Chakra Mode, which activated the body to increase speed.
However, Mu Yue, of course, did not know the Flying Thunder God Jutsu or the Lightning Release Chakra Mode. The Teleportation Jutsu he mastered was the most ordinary type.
It involved forming hand seals to gather chakra in the legs and then bursting it to enhance the body, achieving the effect of high-speed movement. The drawback was that overuse could lead to leg muscle fatigue and injury.
Although it was just a basic D-rank taijutsu, it was very practical in combat, useful for both ambushes and retreats.
Danzo's talent did not disappoint Mu Yue. Although he had not yet awakened his Sharingan, his formidable talent allowed him to master the Teleportation Jutsu immediately after Mu Yue's demonstration and explanation.
After the ninja school ended for the day, Might Guy and Obito soon arrived at the training ground.
"You two, don't start training just yet," Mu Yue called out, stopping Guy and Obito who were ready to begin their practice.
Hearing Mu Yue's gentle voice, Obito thought that Mu Yue was going to teach them something new, and he looked at Mu Yue eagerly and asked, "Teacher Mu Yue, are you going to teach us a powerful new jutsu?"
"You haven't even fully grasped the Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique and Fireball Jutsu yet. Why would I teach you a new jutsu?" Mu Yue shook his head.
"Then what's this special training about?" Obito asked, sounding a little disappointed that there was no new jutsu to learn.
"It's training that will allow you to defeat Hyuga Hiromoto in the next final exam," Mu Yue said with a smile.
"Obito, your taijutsu is too loose. Not to mention Hyuga Hiromoto, even if you were to fight Guy now, he could defeat you without you being able to use a single jutsu. So, you must strengthen your taijutsu training."
Hearing Mu Yue's words, Obito wanted to say something, but he found that he couldn't argue. His fights with both Hyuga Hiromoto and Might Guy had played out exactly as Mu Yue described.
Although ninja battles sometimes looked no different from mages exchanging spells, if one neglected their taijutsu and only focused on ninjutsu, they would be the first to die on the battlefield. Generally, stronger ninjas would have at least some proficiency in taijutsu.
"As for you, Guy, you need to enhance your strengths. You need to become faster, so fast that even if Hyuga Hiromoto's Byakugan sees your movements, he won't be able to dodge in time."
While the Byakugan's observational power was strong, Might Guy didn't need speed that surpassed the Byakugan's observation. He only needed to be faster than Hyuga Hiromoto's reaction speed.
"From now on, for every hour you train, you will spend half an hour in actual combat. Only taijutsu is allowed, no ninjutsu."
"Huh? No ninjutsu?" Obito was stunned. He was already at a disadvantage, and now he couldn't even use ninjutsu? It felt like he was just signing up to be beaten up.
"If you don't want to lose to Hyuga Hiromoto again, then don't use ninjutsu," Mu Yue replied.
Obito thought about the bold claims he had made in front of Rin. Even though he could foresee the painful training ahead, he could only nod tearfully.
A new round of training began, and Mu Yue wondered if this special training would trigger the reward for his disciples' increased strength. It hadn't been triggered before, and he didn't know how much they would have to improve to activate it.
