Chapter 239: "The Reclusive Master" Returns!
Chapter 239: "The Reclusive Master" Returns!
Friday.
A gentle breeze blew as Jing He lounged lazily on the sofa, scrolling through his phone. He called out softly, “Vulpix.”
The Ice Vulpix, who had been napping on a cat tree, slowly rose and stretched, then leaped gracefully from the tree to the shelf above the sofa.
Jing He smiled and patted the empty space in front of him. The little fox understood immediately, jumping from the cat tree to the sofa back, and then into Jing He’s arms, resting its head on his arm.
“Vulpix~” it mewed softly.
Jing He placed his hand on its belly, gently petting it a few times before taking a deep breath, savoring the moment.
“Vulpix, Vulpix~^><^”
Sometimes, he thought, it would be nice to live a simple, carefree life with his Pokemon, just reading books with Gengar, petting Vulpix, working out with Machamp, giving Dragonair a bath, and telling stories to Ursaring.
Recently, Ursaring had become obsessed with Jing He’s stories, especially with the tales of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Water Margin."
But dreams are beautiful, and reality is harsh. He might want to live a peaceful life, but his Pokemon might not be so content.
So, he needed to give them something to do. The more energy they burned during the day, the better they would sleep at night.
He picked up his phone and showed it to Vulpix.
“Ice Sculpture Competition. Interested?”
“Vulpix?”
The little fox blinked its eyes and quickly perked up, staring at the pictures of ice sculptures on the phone with keen interest.
Jing He smiled, knowing that the ice sculpture competition had struck a chord with Vulpix.
One of Vulpix’s favorite activities was building snowmen. To Vulpix, ice sculptures and snowmen weren’t that different.
“This is one of the winter events held in Snowfall City in the Kalos region,” Jing He explained.
As winter approached, various activities were being organized across the Pokemon world, such as skiing competitions, ice sculpture competitions, and ice skating tournaments. Each event offered attractive prizes, drawing trainers from all over the world.
The ice sculpture competition was being held in Snowfall City in the Kalos region, with generous rewards. The champion would receive a high-quality "Icy Rock" sponsored by the Flavio Research Institute, as well as a substantial supply of "Persim Berries."
The runners-up and third-place winners would also receive "Persim Berries," as well as rare items like "Ice Stones" and "Everstones."
Jing He had received an "Everstone" from Kona before, but Vulpix had absorbed most of it. According to Kona, the "Everstones" in this competition were of much higher quality.
Besides, one "Everstone" wasn’t enough for Vulpix. A dozen or so would be more in line with the little fox’s cautious nature.
Jing He had always wanted to get an "Ice Stone" for Vulpix. Even if the quality of the "Ice Stones" in this competition was average, they would still be expensive.
Even if they didn’t win a top prize, just participating would earn them some "Persim Berries" as a participation reward.
“Vulpix!!”
Vulpix sat up and nodded enthusiastically. It wanted to participate!
Jing He smiled, knowing Vulpix would be eager to join.
He gently patted the little fox’s head. It was amazing to see how the once-shy and timid Vulpix had grown into a confident Pokemon ready to showcase its talents on the competition stage.
“Alright!”
Since Vulpix wanted to participate, and the prizes were so generous, there was no reason to refuse.
He was already planning to visit the Kalos region to meet Professor Sycamore’s invitation. The only hesitation was because the Flavio Research Institute was involved in the competition.
But after some thought, he realized it was fine. If Flavio truly wanted to contact him, Kona would have mentioned it long ago.
Since Flavio hadn’t made a move, it meant he didn’t consider Jing He, a mere Pokemon psychologist, worth his attention.
“Let’s prepare, then. We’ll head to Kalos.”
He always felt something was missing in his ice turnip cultivation. Perhaps a visit to Snowfall City, a place perennially covered in snow and ice, would provide some insights.
Coincidentally, later that afternoon, he received a call from the Sycamore Pokemon Research Institute. It wasn’t Alain, but Professor Sycamore himself.
“Teacher Jing He, I apologize. I was out on business last time, so…”
Professor Sycamore’s voice was tired but apologetic.
“It’s no problem, Professor. I was planning to visit the Kalos region anyway.”
Jing He understood.
“Perfect. When will you come? I’ll send someone to pick you up from the airport.”
“No need, Professor. I’d like to take my time and explore the region’s culture and customs.”
The Kalos region, inspired by France, and especially the romantic city of Lumiose, modeled after Paris, was known for its romantic atmosphere.
It was time to savor the moment.
Jing He wasn't in a hurry to leave for Kalos. After all, he was a teacher at the Kanaz Pokemon Academy, and even though the semester had ended, there were still some matters to attend to.
Of course, the more pressing issue was the reimbursement for his trip to Galar.
In the principal's office of the Kanaz Pokemon Academy, Minjiang awkwardly handed over Jing He's reimbursement form to the principal, whose bruised face had yet to fully heal.
"Principal, this is the reimbursement form for Professor Jing He's trip to the Galar region... cough, reimbursement."
Minjiang's face was a mix of embarrassment and uncertainty, unsure how to explain the contents of the form.
The old principal, however, wore a cheerful expression and wasn't too concerned about Minjiang's demeanor.
What's the big deal about a reimbursement form?
But after a quick glance, his eyes widened slightly.
"Ten thousand?!"
"That... Principal, don't take it too seriously. I think Professor Jing He might have... well, made a mistake in some places." Minjiang quickly interjected.
Skipping over the relatively cheaper items, he continued:
"Eighteen Energy Roots, twelve Max Potions, twenty Max Elixirs..."
Minjiang cleared his throat.
"I'll go back and confirm with Professor Jing He..."
"No need."
The old principal shook his head solemnly and placed the form on the desk.
Seeing this, Minjiang's heart sank. Even the usually mild-tempered principal seemed upset. He was about to tell Jing He...
Bang!
The principal slapped the desk and waved his hand.
"Approved!"
"I'll definitely talk to Professor Jing He... what? Ah? Approved?" Minjiang's face was a mix of shock and confusion.
The old principal sighed.
"Professor Jing He defeated Alder."
"Ah?" Minjiang's mouth dropped open, thinking he had misheard. He confirmed, "That Alder, the Master Alder?"
The old principal nodded, his expression mirroring Minjiang's initial shock when he first heard the news from Alder.
Alder, despite his age, was a former champion who had been undefeated for eighteen consecutive years!
"So, it's clear that Professor Jing He must have put in an extraordinary amount of effort."
The extensive list of items on the reimbursement form was a testament to that effort. So many healing and recovery items spoke volumes about the challenges he faced!
Minjiang took a deep breath.
Though he felt something was amiss, the principal had made his decision, and Minjiang didn't press further.
The only lingering question was: one hundred kilograms of coffee beans, really just for staying awake?
He shook his head.
Those details didn't matter now.
Defeating Alder!
That was far more shocking than the reimbursement approval.
Could Professor Jing He now be the strongest trainer at the Kanaz Pokemon Academy?
"Achoo!"
On the plane, Jing He sneezed suddenly.
Seeing the reimbursement confirmation on his phone, he smiled.
The school was reliable. They didn't hesitate to cover the expenses.
The school was indeed a great place.
Ding-dong—
"Gengar~ Gengar~~"
Gengar, holding its phone, laughed so hard that tears streamed from its eyes.
It was watching the latest episode of "Meowth and Pikachu."
Indeed, thanks to the efforts of Team Rocket and the support of Devon Corporation, the show had successfully aired and quickly gained popularity across the Pokemon world, almost rivaling the popularity of "Jigglypuff's Adventure."
With a 9.5 approval rating, it had become an instant hit.
And this was just after three episodes. The popularity was expected to rise even further.
Meanwhile, with Jing He's approval, the production team planned to film in various locations to create even more compelling scenes.
Jing He, however, was more concerned with his share of the profits.
Outside the window, the sky was clear and sunny.
In the distance, the Kalos region was already in sight. The Kalos region, shaped like a pentagram, centered around the plain where Lumiose City was located, could be divided into the northwest coast, the central area, and the northeastern mountains.
The plane would land in Lumiose City, the largest and most central city in the Kalos region.
Lumiose City, known for its Prism Tower and the Lumiose Museum, was the most populous city in the Pokemon world. Tourism was a major economic pillar, with numerous shops, cafes, and restaurants that were popular with both visitors and locals.
One of Jing He's goals for this trip was to recruit a few more employees for the cafe.
Humans and Pokemon were both welcome.
"Dear passengers, we are about to land in Lumiose City..."
"Gengar!" Gengar put away its phone and fastened its seatbelt.
They were almost there!
Jing He glanced at it, feeling a strange sense that Gengar's Mega Evolution was about to break loose.
