Chapter 237: Yu Chenwu (Fifth Watch)
Chapter 237: Yu Chenwu (Fifth Watch)
Yu Chenwu was slightly taken aback, a hint of annoyance flashing across his face.
However, upon further thought, he realized that Mo Hua's words made sense. No matter how much he disagreed with Mo Shan, he wouldn't stoop to nitpicking like this with his son.
Moreover, by holding a grudge against Mo Shan's son, he would appear petty and narrow-minded in comparison to Mo Shan himself, regardless of other factors.
"Fine, you're right. I won't hold it against you," Yu Chenwu conceded.
Mo Hua then asked, "Do you have a wolf-toothed club?"
Yu Chenwu nodded, "Indeed."
Mo Hua's eyes lit up, "Can I take a look?"
Yu Chenwu hesitated, but seeing the curiosity and eagerness in Mo Hua's eyes, he couldn't bring himself to refuse. After some thought, he took out the club from his storage bag and placed it on the ground for Mo Hua to examine.
The club was five or six feet long, adorned with sharp spikes, and forged from fine iron. It resembled wolf teeth and was stained with dark blood—likely a mixture of demonic beasts' and cultivators' blood.
Mo Hua tried to lift it but found it immovable despite his efforts.
"It's so heavy," he exclaimed.
A hint of pride flashed in Yu Chenwu's eyes as he replied, "Of course."
"Was it intentionally made this heavy?" Mo Hua asked humbly.
"Indeed," Yu Chenwu nodded, "Spiritual artifacts are made heavy to increase their force, thereby enhancing their destructive power when wielded."
"Oh," Mo Hua nodded in understanding.
Yu Chenwu's curiosity got the better of him, and he asked, "Why do you ask?"
"I want to get one too," Mo Hua replied.
Yu Chenwu was taken aback, "A club like this?"
Mo Hua pointed to the wolf-toothed club on the ground, "This one."
Yu Chenwu glanced at Mo Hua, noticing his delicate skin, slender limbs, and lack of robust qi. It was clear that he wasn't a body cultivator, so he asked, "You're not a body cultivator, are you? What would you need this for?"
Mo Hua blinked, "I have my reasons."
Yu Chenwu couldn't help but furrow his brows.
Mo Shan was cunning, but his son seemed even more so, always scheming. Yu Chenwu wondered what he was up to.
"Let me treat you to some wine!"
After seeing the wolf-toothed club and forming a plan, Mo Hua wanted to reciprocate Yu Chenwu's gesture and invited him for a drink.
"Your injuries aren't severe, so you can have a little," Mo Hua said.
Yu Chenwu hesitated but eventually accepted the cup of wine that Mo Hua offered. However, after taking a sip, he furrowed his brows.
The wine was slightly sour and sweet, with a faint alcoholic taste—something a child would drink.
But in their current situation, having wine was already a luxury, and he couldn't be too picky.
Yu Chenwu sighed and took a few more sips to relieve his fatigue. Suddenly, he realized that despite his disagreements with Mo Shan, they had never shared a drink.
Now, he was being treated by Mo Shan's son to a cup of fruity wine meant for children.
Yu Chenwu's mood became somewhat complicated.
After resting and ensuring their injuries were stable, the group continued their journey.
After walking for a while, Mo Hua scanned the surroundings with his spiritual sense and heaved a sigh of relief.
"We can slow down now; there's no need to rush," he said.
With his spiritual sense, he could perceive that there were already quite a few demon hunters in the area.
For Mo Hua, having fellow demon hunters around was like being on his own turf. Any outsider cultivators daring to pursue them further would be asking for death.
Ji Qingbai didn't understand why Mo Hua said that, but he inexplicably trusted Mo Hua's words and also breathed a sigh of relief.
As they continued on their way, they indeed encountered more and more demon hunters.
Whenever the demon hunters saw Yu Chenwu's group, regardless of whether they were acquainted or not, they would come over to greet them.
At first, Yu Chenwu didn't notice anything amiss, but gradually, he began to feel that something was off.
Each time a group of demon hunters approached, they would greet Mo Hua first before exchanging pleasantries with him.
He could let it slide if it happened once or twice, but they had already encountered four or five groups, and it was the same every time.
These people were only greeting Mo Hua out of respect for his father, Mo Shan.
But Mo Shan's influence couldn't be this widespread, could it?
Unless... Mo Shan had successfully built his foundation. If that were the case, then Mo Hua, as the son of a Foundation Establishment cultivator, would naturally be given this level of respect.
As Yu Chenwu pondered this, he suddenly realized that this didn't quite add up either.
His own father, Yu Changlin, was a Foundation Establishment cultivator, and while he was considered the son of a cultivator at that level, he had never been accorded such overwhelming respect.
Yu Chenwu was perplexed, but there was something else that puzzled him even more—the iron armor.
Almost every group of demon hunters they had encountered was wearing it, and those who weren't had at least one member who was.
Iron armor! Where did they get it?
Yu Chenwu's brows furrowed deeply.
He had been away on an errand for Elder Yu, his father, and due to unforeseen circumstances, his return had been delayed by over a year.
On his way back, he had passed through Qingxuan City, where he had run into Ji Qingbai, and because they shared a mutual dislike for bullying families, he had lent a hand, accompanying them on their journey to Tongxian City.
It had only been a little over a year since he had left.
But for a cultivator, a year wasn't that long, was it?
Why, then, did everything feel so different now?
Ji Qingbai and Ji Li were equally astonished as they observed the demon hunters.
Iron armor! In Qingxuan City, demon hunters who possessed iron armor could be counted on one hand, yet here in Tongxian City, it seemed like they were everywhere.
Ji Qingbai and his father were at a loss for an explanation.
The group continued on their way without incident, exiting the Great Black Mountain and entering Tongxian City through the south gate, where they were greeted by the sight of an expansive array of forging and pill refineries to the south of the city.
The buildings were enormous, with towering walls and strict formation arrays, presenting an imposing and majestic sight.
The crisp sound of metal being forged could be heard from within, along with the fragrant aroma of pills.
Yu Chenwu and his companions were utterly astounded.
Not only in Tongxian City, but even if you included the nearby immortal cities, there had never been such a massive cultivation industry.
Yu Chenwu exclaimed in disbelief, "Could these belong to the Qian family?"
In just over a year, had the Qian family's influence grown to such an extent? If so, wouldn't they be unstoppable from now on?
Mo Hua shook his head. "No, they belong to everyone."
"Everyone?" Yu Chenwu was confused.
Mo Hua pointed with her small hand, encompassing the entire southern area of the city in her gesture, and said, "Everyone."
Yu Chenwu understood, but he still found it hard to believe. "Am I dreaming?" he wondered silently.
He felt as if he had been wandering and sleeping rough, and this was all just a dream he was having.
In his dream, he had traveled back to Tongxian City, where he saw demon hunters wearing iron armor, cultivators with their own forging and pill refineries, and everyone with an abundance of spirit stones and smiles on their faces.
He had thought about these things before, but only in his dreams.
What he was witnessing now seemed like a dream come true.
Seeing Yu Chenwu's dazed expression, Mo Hua called out to him, "Second Uncle Yu?"
Yu Chenwu snapped out of his reverie, but even as he took in his surroundings, he still found it hard to believe what he was seeing. "Is this not a dream?" he wondered. "Could it be an illusion technique?"
Noticing his changing expressions and fluctuating emotions, Mo Hua thought he was feeling homesick and that his emotions had gotten the better of him, so she left him alone.
