Chapter 236: Mental Interrogation
Chapter 236: Mental Interrogation
In the White Eagle Ability Team, the absence of the Dark Werewolf, Derek Wolfe, significantly reduced their strength.
Charles Water, seeing the situation turn unfavorable for their side, reined in his anger and coldly snorted, "Let's go!"
He prepared to lead the three teams in his camp away.
However, Lu Heng placed his sword against Charles Water's neck and coldly said, "Did I give you permission to leave?"
Charles Water's eyes narrowed slightly as he gritted his teeth and suppressed his anger, asking, "What do you mean?"
Lu Heng revealed a faint smile and said, "Your method is very good. Making each of you prove your innocence is indeed the fastest way to find the traitor."
"You!" Charles Water's eyes blazed with fury.
"Wasn't this your idea? Why are you so angry when it's applied to you?" Lu Heng tightened his grip on the sword, ready to cripple him if he made any move to resist.
Charles Water exchanged a glance with his teammates, then suddenly unleashed a layer of energy armor covering his entire body, transforming into an armored warrior. He drew his cross sword and swung it at Lu Heng.
Lu Heng, not expecting the other party to actually resist, leaped back to avoid the slash, then used his Sonic Blade. With a "bang," he severed Charles Water's cross sword.
The remaining force of the sword's light cut through his energy armor and pierced toward his chest.
In an instant, his weapon was severed, and his energy armor was shattered. Charles Water's face showed shock; he had never imagined Lu Heng's combat power to be so terrifying.
Moreover, the sound of the sonic boom indicated that the speed of the sword strike was so fast that he didn't even have a chance to react.
The explosive force of the energy armor's destruction sent him to the ground. Seeing the sword light heading toward his chest, he quickly shouted, "Stop! We are willing to prove our innocence."
Lu Heng also wanted to determine if they were traitors, so he asked, "How do you prove it?"
"Can you perform a mental interrogation? We will accept a mental interrogation," Charles Water said, not wanting to die and thus having to accept the method he originally used to force the Daxia metahumans.
Lu Heng turned to look at the Daxia metahumans behind him and asked, "Does anyone here know how to perform mental interrogation?"
The female metahuman who had been knocked to the ground by the Dark Werewolf, Derek Wolfe, raised her hand and replied, "I can. My name is Zhao Liwen, and I have the mental interrogation skill, which has almost no side effects."
Lu Heng said, "Then you do it. Use your skill to confirm if they are traitors."
Charles Water pointed at Lu Heng's sword and asked, "Can you put the sword away first?"
Lu Heng gave him a cold glance.
Charles Water quickly changed his tone, "It's fine if you don't. We can start with my teammates."
He looked at the blonde woman, Ellen Bella, in his team and said, "Ellen, why don't you go first for the mental interrogation?"
Ellen Bella's face showed dissatisfaction as she said, "Why should it be me?"
Despite her protests, she stepped forward and accepted Zhao Liwen's mental interrogation skill.
Zhao Liwen closed her eyes and used the mental interrogation skill on Ellen Bella.
A moment later, she turned around and said, "I've confirmed. She is not a traitor."
"Check the rest," Lu Heng gestured for her to continue with the others.
Zhao Liwen then performed mental interrogations on all the members of Charles Water's team and finally reported, "I've confirmed. There are no traitors among them."
Lu Heng turned to the two teams that followed Charles Water, starting with Park Hyun Jin.
Park Hyun Jin quickly took a step back and said, "I didn't make a move just now."
Lu Heng pressed the tip of his sword against Charles Water's throat, the sharp blade breaking his skin. "It seems your lackeys aren't very obedient."
Charles Water's face turned red with anger as he roared at Park Hyun Jin, "Shut up! Come forward for the mental interrogation."
The remaining members of Park Hyun Jin's team, under Charles Water's pressure, also had to come forward for the mental interrogation to prove their identities.
After all the White Eagle metahumans were checked, Zhao Liwen turned to Lu Heng and shook her head, saying, "None of them are."
Charles Water, displeased, said, "Now are you satisfied? Can we go?"
Lu Heng sheathed his Aurora Blade, waved to Su Muyu and Lin Ze Yu, and started walking toward Forge Fortress.
The other Daxia metahumans, not daring to stay, hurriedly followed behind Lu Heng and his team.
...
The mental-type metahuman, Zhao Liwen, quickly caught up to Lu Heng and asked, "Hello, can I join your team?"
She could see that Lu Heng's team was the strongest among the Daxia metahumans.
As a solitary metahuman, finding the right allies was key to surviving the Abyssal Battlefield.
Lu Heng didn't look back at her and said, "We have important matters to attend to, so it's not convenient to bring you along. If you encounter trouble, I'll try to help."
Although Lu Heng indicated he would help, this was a refusal of her request to join.
Zhao Liwen sighed imperceptibly, standing in place as she watched Lu Heng and his team walk away.
...
Lu Heng mounted the mechanical tiger, took Su Muyu and Lin Ze Yu with him, and flew into the sky, heading back to Forge Fortress.
During the flight, Lin Ze Yu looked back at the rapidly diminishing figures of the Daxia metahumans on the ground and asked, "Why didn't we take them with us?"
"Lu Heng spoke with a serious tone, 'This time, there is a traitor among us in the Abyss Battlefield. Until we find the betrayer, no one can be trusted.'"
Lin Ze Yu frowned in confusion, "Didn't we just conduct a mental interrogation? At least those who underwent it can be ruled out as betrayers, right?"
Su Muyu smiled and explained, "Charles Water, Park Hyun Jin, and their group were indeed interrogated, and their suspicions have lessened significantly. But it's just a reduction in suspicion, not a complete elimination. I'm sure you're wondering why it's not conclusive."
Lin Ze Yu rolled his eyes, "Can you not treat me like an idiot? Zhao Liwen conducted the mental interrogation, but her own suspicions haven't been cleared. So those she interrogated can't be completely trusted either."
In truth, this was a chain of doubt.
The mental interrogation of the White Eagle faction's metahumans had limited effect.
The only ones truly trustworthy were the members of their own team.
If Zhao Liwen could be proven innocent, then those she interrogated could be cleared of suspicion.
Lin Ze Yu pondered for a moment and asked, "Lu Heng, do you think there's a betrayer among our country's metahumans?"
Lu Heng replied with uncertainty, "I'm not sure, but I can't rule out the possibility. We can't let our guard down just because they're from our country."
Lei Jin Hao was also from Daxia, but he became a betrayer.
So, whether one is a betrayer or not has nothing to do with nationality.
When Lu Heng saved those seven Daxia metahumans earlier, it wasn't because he trusted them but because he was dissatisfied with the actions of the White Eagle metahumans.
Charles Water wasn't looking for a betrayer; he was simply targeting the Daxia group.
...
They flew through the air at great speed and returned to Forge Fortress by dawn.
Lu Heng held a clay pot with reverence and walked into the fortress.
As he passed by, Black Iron Dwarves bowed on one knee, placing their right hands on their chests in salute.
Wherever Lu Heng went, the Black Iron Dwarves knelt.
He quickened his pace, knelt on one knee in salute, and then took the pot from Lu Heng with both hands, carrying it towards the Ancestor Hall of the fortress.
He placed the pot on a stone platform in the Ancestor Hall and prayed reverently before slowly opening it.
He reached into the pot and scooped out a handful of ashes, his face filled with sadness.
As he looked at the ashes, his expression suddenly changed, and he exclaimed, "This is wrong!"
Lu Heng, who was standing outside the Ancestor Hall, furrowed his brows at this exclamation.
I
After all, they were already ashes, and there was no way to verify.
This clay pot was kept in the Blood Sacrifice Tower in Blackstone City. Could it be that the ashes inside belonged to a Bloodline Devil?
That was impossible.
The pot was too simple; ashes of a high-ranking Bloodline Devil should not be stored in such a crude vessel.
J
Upon hearing this, Lu Heng finally understood.
I
Bloodline Devils don't learn dark sorcery; it's the Black Iron Dwarves who do.
Yes, ever since the Abyss descended, the Black Iron Dwarves started learning dark sorcery to counter the Abyss.
In the history of the Black Iron Clan, many powerful dark sorcerers have emerged.
Dark sorcery has its ominous name because many of its spells are curses, with eerie and dark effects.
But dark sorcery itself isn't necessarily evil; it depends on how the practitioner uses it.
But now, discovering his father's death was due to dark sorcery, he was filled with doubts.
The traces of dark sorcery in the ashes couldn't be wrong.
Now, seeing the ashes, he was even more certain of this.
"
At this moment, Lu Heng strode into the Ancestor Hall and said, "Leader, wait. You suspect there's a traitor in the clan, right? I might have seen the traitor in Blackstone City, but there are some clues I haven't sorted out.
"Calling a clan-wide meeting now will only alert the traitor. I think we should investigate discreetly first and see if we can find the traitor."
