Chapter 236: Exam Results
Chapter 236: Exam Results
"I wonder how well I did this time." With a cheerful mood, Anko Mitarashi squeezed through the crowd gathered around the score board with her two good brothers.
Anko's large eyes quickly scanned the board, successfully locating the scores for their Class 1-1 before searching for her own name.
"Hmm, only 81 points." Anko scratched her head, slightly dissatisfied with her score.
This time, she had genuinely reviewed for two days, forgoing playtime on Saturday and Sunday to study. Yet, her results were similar to previous exams.
Next, Anko looked up the score of her classmate, Kotetsu Hagane, who had mentioned that he didn't perform well. She spotted a big, bold '97' next to his name, causing Anko to clench her fists.
She then searched for Izumo Kamizuki, who had claimed to have done poorly, and found that he had scored 98 points, one point higher than Kotetsu. Anko's fists tightened further.
As for Shisui's score, Anko had already spotted it while looking for their class's results—a perfect 100.
"Wow, so 97 is considered average, and 98 is considered doing poorly, huh?" Anko was ready to give her two good brothers a reality check about their rankings in the practical exam.
"Shisui even said that he didn't do well, and he got a perfect score! Why aren't you giving him a hard time?" Izumo, sensing the impending danger, tried to shift the attention elsewhere.
"That's because he always gets full marks. Even if he says he didn't do well, it's still true," Anko said, rolling up her sleeves.
Of course, the main reason was that she wasn't as close to Shisui, and also, she knew she couldn't beat him in a fight.
"We always get these scores too!" Kotetsu protested, unwilling to back down.
"But you two are just showing off!" Anko prepared to deliver the final blow.
"Wow, look! Might Guy and Obito Uchiha have completed a B-rank mission, and they even have two A-rank missions!"
"I remember the teacher mentioning that D-rank and C-rank missions are for genin. Chunin take on C-rank and B-rank, and even they can't handle A-rank missions. How did they end up with A-rank missions?" A fellow intern was perplexed by this revelation.
The area around the scoreboard instantly buzzed with discussions about Might Guy and Obito's astonishing mission records.
In a sea of D-rank mission records from the interns, Might Guy and Obito's two A-rank and one B-rank missions stood out brilliantly.
In fact, not only were the students astonished, but the teachers who had posted the scores were also shocked to see their mission histories. They had only undertaken a few B-rank missions themselves and had never attempted an A-rank mission.
The ever-curious Anko temporarily spared her two brothers and squeezed through the crowd with them to check out Obito's scores.
Tetsu Uchiha was not in the habit of checking his scores, but due to Obito's bold claims in class, he found himself drawn to the scoreboard out of curiosity. He wanted to see how Obito would handle the situation, but instead, he heard the students' astonished whispers.
"How is this possible?" Tetsu frowned, his expression far from that of a composed ninja.
Seeing is believing, and Tetsu pushed his way through the crowd to verify Obito's scores.
"He really has completed A-rank and B-rank missions! In fact, he has two A-rank missions and one B-rank!" Tetsu's face contorted in disbelief.
He never imagined that Obito's tall tale would turn out to be true.
"How is this possible? Even official genin can't get their hands on A-rank missions. How did an intern like him manage it?" Tetsu racked his brains, unable to comprehend this turn of events.
"Could it be that he was worried his lie would be exposed, so he altered the records himself early in the morning?" Tetsu wondered.
He would rather believe that the records were fake than accept the truth, as it went against his common sense.
It wasn't just Tetsu who was surprised. Many others had come specifically to see Obito's scores, including his classmates and interns who had previously thought he was boasting.
When they laid eyes on the scoreboard, they were stunned, and the feeling of being slapped in the face by reality washed over them.
"How can he have completed two A-rank missions? Could it be that Teacher Mu Yue is not only an excellent teacher but also possesses strength beyond that of a regular jonin?" One of the interns who had initially doubted Obito felt his face burning.
"It's really just as Obito said. I'm so envious of Obito and Kakashi. This internship is so exciting! They even fought alongside jonin during their missions."
Hizashi Hyuga gazed at Obito's impressive record of two A-rank missions, his face filled with envy.
"The jonin must have been Teacher Mu Yue. Obito and his team probably dealt with enemies below the jonin level or assisted Teacher Mu Yue in battles against jonin."
"Regardless, it's still incredibly impressive. While we're all intern ninjas, Tobirama and his team were already fighting ninjas from enemy villages," Hizashi added, marveling at the disparity.
Kaminari Monet concurred with a nod, acknowledging that the record before them was explosively impressive, outshining all their peers.
The facts were undeniable, and even those interns who had previously doubted Tobirama were now forced to admit that they had underestimated him.
Just then, Tobirama and Might Guy arrived, accompanied by Hanare and Kakashi.
The gathered students were still discussing in awe how Tobirama and Might Guy had managed to complete an A-rank mission.
"Hehe, Guy, it seems they're all talking about us," Tobirama remarked, a smile spreading across his face as he listened to the surrounding discussions.
Kakashi had been brought along intentionally; Tobirama wanted to show off in front of him and give him a taste of his own medicine.
"But it's true that we're exceptionally talented to have the privilege of taking on higher-level missions earlier than most," Tobirama added, not waiting for Might Guy to respond.
"I believe Teacher Mu Yue has a lot to do with it as well," Kakashi interjected, his tone carrying a hint of disdain as he looked on with disapproval.
"Indeed, we had to get permission from Teacher Mu Yue and the Hokage himself to receive this privilege," Might Guy acknowledged, stroking his chin in agreement.
He recognized both their exceptional abilities and the significant role Mu Yue had played in their achievements.
With so many students crowded around the scoreboard, not many noticed the arrival of Tobirama and his companions. Even those who did spot them might mention it to their friends, but they wouldn't shout out things like, "Look, Tobirama Senju is here!"
As the four of them squeezed through the crowd, more people began to take notice.
"Tobirama, Guy, Hanare, it's you! And Kakashi, it's been a while," Kaminari remarked, his eyes widening as if he were seeing something extraordinary as he addressed Kakashi.
Unlike Tobirama and Hanare, who had a close relationship with Kakashi, Kaminari hadn't seen him in over three years.
"Yeah, it's been a while," Kakashi acknowledged with a nod.
"I knew you weren't boasting, Tobirama. You're incredible!" Kaminari exclaimed, patting Tobirama's shoulder enthusiastically.
"Of course, I wouldn't exaggerate. I'm just decent," Tobirama replied, his face beaming with delight as he tried to maintain a semblance of modesty despite his joyful expression.
"Well, Kakashi, what do you think? This is something you never achieved, right?" Tobirama asked, his lips curling upward as he gestured toward his impressive mission record.
"There wasn't an intern ninja system when I graduated, so of course, I didn't have this opportunity," Kakashi replied nonchalantly.
While he believed that even as an intern ninja, replicating such a record would be challenging, he had no intention of flattering Tobirama, who stood before him. Instead, he wanted to deliver a stinging retort.
"You make it sound like you could have done it if you were an intern. Weren't you the one who said that C-rank missions wouldn't pose any unexpected dangers?" Tobirama retorted, twisting his lips in a slight smirk.
Tobirama's words left Kakashi momentarily speechless. The events surrounding this matter were something he still couldn't fully comprehend even to this day.
While it was true that missions during wartime were more likely to encounter unforeseen circumstances, it seemed exaggerated that all three of their missions had taken such a turn, including an encounter with an elite jounin candidate like the future Raikage.
"It's a combination of the wartime situation and some bad luck. Normally, that shouldn't happen," Kakashi offered, providing what he believed to be the most reasonable explanation.
Kakashi then turned his attention to the scoreboard, having found a point he could use to counter Tobirama.
"There is one thing you achieved that I couldn't," Kakashi admitted.
"Oh, Kakashi, you finally concede..." Tobirama's smile widened with satisfaction.
However, before Tobirama could finish reveling in his moment of triumph, Kakashi continued, "I couldn't possibly score a mere 40 points on the written exam. After all, even if I randomly filled out such an easy test, I'd still get a score of at least 60."
Tobirama's smile froze, and he inwardly cursed his oversight. He had been so focused on the prospect of gloating today that he had forgotten about his abysmal performance on the written exam.
This semester, he had been training with Mu Yue, and the only reason he managed to score 40 points was that the final exam for the last semester covered material they had previously learned, and he had also practiced with the questions Mu Yue had provided.
"So what if I'm a bit weaker in theory? It's not like acing the written exam can take down opponents. You still lost to me in actual combat," Tobirama retorted, his smile returning.
"Obito defeated Kakashi in actual combat?" Hinata Hyuga was so shocked that she stood frozen in place.
Any student who was a contemporary of Kakashi's knew just how strong he was. It wasn't a matter of being simply strong, but possessing a strength that seemed insurmountable, giving the impression that no matter how hard one tried, surpassing him was impossible.
While others were still practicing the Clone Technique, Kakashi had already mastered the Shadow Clone Technique. As his peers struggled to hit the target with their shuriken and kunai, Kakashi could casually throw a handful, all finding their mark with precision.
By the time others were attending the Ninja Academy, Kakashi had already graduated early. He became a genin at five and a chunin at six, his promotion speed leaving behind a pile of seniors who had become genin long ago.
That was why Hinata was so astonished to hear Obito claim victory over Kakashi in actual combat.
"One victory doesn't guarantee victory every time. I will win back what I lost," Kakashi acknowledged his defeat.
The conversation between the two plunged the surrounding fourth-grade students into silence, their faces bearing expressions of a shattered worldview.
Especially those interns who knew that Obito was Kakashi's teammate; they had thought that Obito was carried by Kakashi, but now it seemed that Obito's strength surpassed Kakashi's.
"My dear friend, keep working hard. I've always been waiting for your challenge," Might Guy said, flashing his big white teeth and giving Kakashi a thumbs-up.
"That day won't be too far away," Kakashi said seriously.
He had almost mastered the Full Concentration Breath of the Lightning Release, and once he completed the Constant Practice, learning to use nature transformation to strengthen his reaction nerves, his strength would undergo a qualitative change.
Might Guy and Kakashi's conversation left the bystanders astonished once more.
Kakashi's fight with Might Guy was in the form of a challenge, which meant that he had also lost to Might Guy.
However, remembering that Obito, who had defeated Kakashi, had also lost to Might Guy a few days ago, everything made sense.
"We're truly falling further and further behind," Hinata said with a sigh.
Previously, during the summer training, he had entertained the idea of catching up to Might Guy and Obito, but now he had completely given up on that thought. The gap was just too wide, and he couldn't bring himself to think of chasing after them.
Before even graduating, they had defeated a chunin, and Kakashi was a genius ninja.
"No wonder every time I see Guy and his team fight, they seem ridiculously strong. So their strength has already reached this level," Hinata seemed to have realized something.
Kakashi noticed someone looking at him with strange eyes, as if they were looking at a fallen celebrity they had once admired. However, Kakashi paid no heed.
The only useful thing he had learned from that incident was to ignore the gazes and words of irrelevant people.
After checking the results, accompanied by the back-and-forth exchanges between Kakashi and Obito, the group returned to the forest to continue their training.

Disciple, Might Guy, has diligently cultivated and achieved good scores in academic assessments, earning rewards: Chakra +230]
After the exam results were released, Mu Yue also received the exam reward calculations. The total chakra gain was 700 points, along with a useful Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll.
While the practical exam scores were more or less the same as before, the theory scores had dropped a little due to the lack of studying for some time. However, Mu Yue didn't mind.
During that period, he had been taking Obito and the others on missions, and the chakra earned far exceeded the meager amount from the exam rewards.
As usual, Mu Yue trained his disciples for three days. On the sixth day after the exam, he took them to the Hokage's office to receive a mission.
With Obito's birthday and the exams, they had stayed in Konoha for most of the past half month, and it was time to stretch their legs and take on a mission.
"Are there any C-rank missions available? Any country or type is fine," Mu Yue asked.
This time, he didn't have a strong purpose and was willing to go with the flow.
