Chapter 235: Coulson's Death (Second Update)
Chapter 235: Coulson's Death (Second Update)
The principal recommended Zhongcheng High School, and Jerry, who was usually very independent, did not object. Neither did Has.
Thus, Jerry's decision to skip a grade and enter Zhongcheng High School was confirmed.
When the summer vacation ended and school started on September 1st, he would be able to report directly to Zhongcheng High School.
Everything was going smoothly.
However, not long after returning home, the Mirror of Truth on Jerry's waist began to vibrate.
"Coulson, calling me at this time, could something be wrong?"
When Jerry gave the Mirror of Truth to Coulson and Tony, he had mentioned that they shouldn't contact him during the day unless it was something very important.
This was because if Has and others were around, it would be inconvenient for him to take out the mirror and start a video call.
It was now 10:00 AM.
Jerry made an excuse to return to his room, leaving a Phantom Clone behind just in case, and then jumped into the Box Dimension. He input his Magic Power to activate the mirror in his hand.
"Fury?"
Seeing the image of One-Eyed Director Fury instead of Coulson in the mirror, Jerry couldn't help but show a look of surprise.
"Alright, while 'Fury' is a fitting nickname, calling me that to my face might be a bit impolite!"
Fury's lips twitched involuntarily.
"Ha ha ha, sorry, I slipped up. By the way, where's Coulson? Why are you contacting me?"
Jerry quickly changed the subject. He could call Fury by the nickname in private, but doing so face-to-face was not a good idea, so he hurriedly shifted the conversation.
Hearing Jerry mention Coulson, a hint of sorrow appeared on Fury's face.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Jerry immediately noticed the unusual expression on Fury's face.
Fury took a deep breath and then said slowly:
"Coulson is dead. I need your help, and the reward can be whatever you want!"
"Coulson is dead?"
Jerry was stunned, his face showing a look of disbelief.
That doesn't make sense. He remembered that in The Avengers, Coulson did die, but it was because Loki stabbed him with the Mind Staff. Loki is currently imprisoned in the Asgardian Prison, so how could Coulson still be dead?
Is this kid just that unlucky? To be honest, he quite liked Coulson.
Unless...
Jerry suddenly had an idea and said to Fury:
"Alright, I'll be there in ten minutes!"
"Good, but our position changes so quickly, I haven't even told you where we are yet."
Fury raised an eyebrow in surprise as the mirror in his hand dimmed.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier's position was not static; it changed every so often.
Witch didn't ask for the exact location but was confident she could arrive in ten minutes. Did she have a way to track the helicarrier's position in real-time, or did she have a method to find it quickly?
Witch was truly not to be underestimated!
In Fury's eyes, he had detailed or general data on the abilities of almost every potential member of the Avengers he had identified. The discrepancies were minimal.
They knew the basic functions of Iron Man's suit, and they had records of Dr. Banner's Hulk's strength, speed, and defenses.
Captain America's abilities and physical attributes were thoroughly documented and recorded from World War II.
Even Thor, who had only recently appeared, had been assessed based on his frequent actions against criminals.
However, the only one they haven't been able to gather specific data on is Witch.
It's not that they can't evaluate, but every time they finish an assessment, they find that they need to reassess after some time.
This is because every so often, they discover that Witch has gained new abilities.
Initially, they only considered Witch as a support and healing presence, used for emergency treatment of the Avengers' injuries during battles.
But later, Witch gradually demonstrated exceptional combat and support abilities. Magic-formed fire-breathing dragons, powerful Particle Cannons, and mirrors that can block signals.
During the battle in New Mexico against the Destroyer, Witch's combat prowess further increased, with even more peculiar Magics added to the repertoire.
So currently, Fury's attitude towards Witch is quite contradictory.
Witch's growing strength and demonstrated sense of justice are a significant help to Earth's safety. For instance, the sudden appearance of powerful Aliens urgently required Witch's assistance.
However, the contradiction lies in the fact that Fury still hasn't gathered specific information about Witch and knows nothing about his true identity, which leaves a lingering unease.
Protecting Earth's safety is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s responsibility. All discovered Meta-humans must be registered, and all information must be fully controlled. This is the principle of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s operations.
But Witch's existence has broken this principle.
Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't happen. However, when Witch wasn't as powerful, S.H.I.E.L.D. believed they could quickly confirm Jerry's true identity through technology, so they didn't use force.
Now, considering Witch's strength, the various emerging Magics, and his popularity among New York citizens, using force would be counterproductive.
After hanging up the mirror, Jerry returned to the living room:
"I'm going to buy some groceries, I'll be back soon!"
He greeted the three people watching TV and turned towards the door.
"Jerry, bring me an ice cream cone!"
Aisha quickly said.
Her teeth had already grown back, so she could enjoy sweet treats without any worries.
"Got it!"
Jerry left the room and immediately used Phantom Shift to vanish.
"By the way, bring me a pack of... uh, he's already gone?"
Has remembered that he was out of cigarettes and wanted Jerry to bring a pack while buying groceries. Opening the door, he found that Jerry was already gone.
In the New York suburbs.
Jerry's figure suddenly appeared, clad in a black wizard robe, and mounted the Thestral, heading straight for the direction of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
With the Thestral, he didn't need to know the exact location.
Coulson was dead, and Fury had urgently called for his help, offering any reward. The only possibility he could think of was that Thanos had sent his minions to Earth.
Jerry had actually anticipated this for some time, which was why he had been trying to strengthen his abilities.
The only thing he hadn't expected was Coulson's death.
However, apart from some regret, he wasn't overly saddened by it.
For him, as long as Has and Aisha were safe, he wasn't that concerned about others.
Teacher Belle was a partial exception, and Thor and Iron Man, whom he had interacted with more recently, were even less so. As for agents like Coulson and Hill, he would at most feel a momentary sigh.
But upon deeper reflection, this alien invasion wasn't entirely bad. Although it was dangerous, if they could get through it, they would certainly gain a large number of Little Red Stars.
