Chapter 234: Utopia - The Scarlet Book, Attempting to Tame?
Chapter 234: Utopia - The Scarlet Book, Attempting to Tame?
Naoki arrived at the second observation station without incident around noon.
The setup here was almost identical to the first observation station.
Naoki scanned the area, then set down his backpack, preparing to rest with Goolet and the other Pokemon. He intended to fill their bellies before continuing on their journey.
"Dragonite, Pupitar, everyone, come on out!"
Naoki took out two Poke Balls, and with two flashes of white light, Pupitar and Dragonite appeared within the observation station.
However, as he hesitated over the last Poke Ball in his hand, he ultimately decided against releasing Houndoom.
As Naoki prepared to showcase his culinary skills, the communicator in the observation station suddenly rang.
Naoki paused, then answered the call. Dr. Olin's voice came through the speaker.
"I saw the notification that the second observation station has been activated. It seems you've arrived safely. How are things? Have you encountered any paradox Pokemon along the way and added them to your team?" Dr. Olin asked, sounding intrigued.
"It's been relatively safe," Naoki honestly reported his experiences from the previous night up until now—the Roaring Moon, the Iron Moth Pokemon, and Houndoom...
Finally, Naoki cautiously asked, "Dr. Olin, don't you think that these paradox Pokemon are a bit too dangerous to coexist with modern Pokemon in the same region?"
Dr. Olin was a smart woman, and she immediately understood Naoki's implication.
A thoughtful expression appeared on her usually energetic face. "From our current research, not all paradox Pokemon are that dangerous."
"Moreover, we've seen new possibilities through you. This indicates that they can live harmoniously with humans in this world, just like modern Pokemon."
Naoki was stunned. What did she mean, "through me"?
However, upon further reflection, he realized that Goolet was indeed a paradox Pokemon summoned by the time machine.
With this thought, Naoki glanced at his Goolet.
Dr. Olin smiled faintly and continued, "This means that paradox Pokemon can be tamed. If they integrate into this world, it will bring a new opportunity for trainers in the Par티아 region."
"The Pokemon ecology in the Pokedex will expand, and trainers will get to know more Pokemon. One day, we will be able to ride with paradox Pokemon across the vast Par티아 land."
"This is our dream—to create a utopia where all Pokemon coexist harmoniously, live together, and where there is no violence or conflict."
Naoki was left speechless, unsure how to respond to Dr. Olin's passionate statement.
"Utopia?" Naoki asked.
Dr. Olin's lips curved into a smile. "You'll see it with your own eyes soon. I'll be waiting for you in that utopia."
Naoki: "..."
For some reason, he felt that Dr. Olin was a bit fanatical, and it gave him the creeps!
"By the way," Dr. Olin said as if she had just remembered something, "I left a Scarlet Book in the drawer of the desk at the second observation station. If you want to learn more about paradox Pokemon, take a look at that book!"
With that, Dr. Olin hung up the call.
Naoki stood there for a moment, then walked over to the dusty desk. He pulled open the drawer and, as expected, found a slightly yellowed book inside.
On the cover, the words "The Scarlet Book" were boldly printed in red and purple ink.
Naoki looked up at the three Pokemon standing before him and asked, "Are you guys hungry?"
"Ba-moo!"
"Agas-si!"
"Roar~"
The three Pokemon shook their heads.
"Great, then give me a moment," Naoki said as he sat on the simple metal bed and began to flip through the Scarlet Book.
"I am He Zhe, and today is the 8th of July, League Calendar 002. To explore the mysterious Par티아 Crater, I organized an observation team and set out toward the interior of the crater."
"The Par티아 Crater is a treacherous terrain, with almost no towns nearby for supplies. To enter this place, my Motostoke and I are working together to help transport goods for the observation team."
"With Motostoke's help, the observation team was able to enter the crater safely."
"At first, the Pokemon discovered in the upper layers of the crater didn't seem much different from those in the rest of the Par티아 region. However, as the observation team ventured deeper, bizarre and incomprehensible phenomena began to unfold before them."
"We found strange traces on the ground that resembled magical arrays, but based on their appearance alone, we couldn't confirm if they were made by explorers from the Imperial era."
"Filled with doubts, we continued deeper into the crater. Finally, we reached the heart of the crater, and lo and behold! There were so many sparkling crystals!"
"However, just as we made this discovery, the observation team was suddenly attacked by a Pokemon similar to a Durant but wilder. Damn! Several members of the observation team suffered fatal injuries!"
"The medical skills of the observation team were insufficient, and two brave members sacrificed their lives. We gathered to mourn their loss and vowed to forever remember their names.
"This is a mysterious creature called Roar Tail. It has a cute appearance, but its temperament is extremely aggressive. According to the investigation by the observation team, anyone who approaches this mysterious creature will immediately be subjected to its attacks."
Flipping further, Naoki saw sketches of Golbat, Miltank, Granbull, Sceptile's pre-evolution, Scizor's pre-evolution, Wailord's pre-evolution, and Bisharp's pre-evolution-like Pokemon, all paradox Pokemon.
Interestingly, on the page about the Iron Moth Pokemon, he noticed a special mark made by He Zhe.
"From this creature's behavior patterns, it is speculated that its ferocity surpasses that of Dragonite. Even if you accidentally encounter it, be sure to avoid any contact."
It was evident that He Zhe's observation team had suffered significant losses when facing the Iron Moth Pokemon.
"Agas-si?"
Seeing Naoki engrossed in the book, Golelton couldn't help but poke his large head forward, curious to see what had captured his trainer's attention.
Naoki looked at Golelton and then turned to the page that described this unique Pokemon.
"This mysterious creature's appearance is extremely similar to that of Motostoke, but its temperament is even more fierce and violent."
"The first time we saw it, it punched the ground below, demonstrating terrifying power! It was far more frightening than any dangerous creature the observation team had encountered before!"
"We thought this expedition would come to an end and that the observation team would be annihilated. However, this mysterious creature did not attack us."
"Undoubtedly, it was also wary of humans, but at the same time, it seemed to have a strong curiosity. After observing us for a while, it even initiated playful interactions."
"This close encounter allowed us to learn more about this mysterious creature. It occupies the top position in the ecological hierarchy of this place. Perhaps due to its confidence in its strength, it did not immediately launch an attack when faced with the non-threatening observation team."
"This is the confidence of an absolute powerhouse. In its habitat, there are almost no other predators."
"Moreover, its temperament is highly variable, and like Motostoke, it can transform into several forms."
"During our observation of this mysterious creature, we witnessed it stomping the ground with its powerful legs, leaping to a height of over 20 meters, and then unfolding its wings to slam into the ground with tremendous force."
"Because of this ecological habit, the observation team named it Wing King."
"Wing King," Naoki murmured, gently pushing Golelton's head away as he contemplated the contents of the book.
He recalled that the Scarlet Book sold on the market was incomplete. Apart from being abridged, crucial parts were obscured by thick black ink.
From his perspective, the Scarlet Book authored by He Zhe was an invaluable research material for the Par티아 region.
However, it was unfortunate that due to its fantastical content, the stories within were eventually treated as mere ghost stories, and the Scarlet Book gradually fell into obscurity, ending up in second-hand book markets.
There was one more thing that piqued Naoki's curiosity.
It was common knowledge that He Zhe had entered the Par티아 Crater 200 years ago. From his Scarlet Book, it was evident that paradox Pokemon already existed within the crater at that time.
Yet, Dr. Olin and Dr. Fort had claimed that they summoned these paradox Pokemon through the time machine.
"Could it be that Dr. Olin's act of summoning paradox Pokemon through the time machine affected the past?" Naoki couldn't help but speculate wildly.
But that would be a paradox, wouldn't it?
Or perhaps, the Par티아 Crater connected two special worlds, and even without the time machine, the paradox Pokemon could cross over due to the presence of Tajin Energy?
Naoki's head spun with these thoughts, and he couldn't make sense of it all, ultimately giving up with a sigh.
Just then, Dragonite's stomach let out a loud growl.
"Alright, alright," Naoki sighed, standing up. "Wait here; I'll prepare some food for you all."
The Garchomp immediately let out a joyous cry.
Naoki took out a bunch of ingredients from his backpack. For today's lunch, he planned to make fried eggs and grilled meat patties, along with some tree fruit and MooMoo Milk for a nutritious meal.
He heated up the pan with oil, and soon the aroma of the tender and juicy meat patties filled the air. The oil sizzled as the meat turned a golden brown, making it look mouthwateringly delicious. Biting into it would release an explosion of juices, tantalizing the taste buds.
Once the food was almost ready, Naoki took out the Growlithe's Poke Ball.
As an ancient and primitive Pokemon, Growlithe was inherently unable to communicate and interact with humans like most other Pokemon.
Naoki decided to appeal to its nature as a predator and try to tame it with food, much like how ancient humans tamed wild wolves into obedient hunting dogs.
With a flash of white light, the injured Growlithe appeared in the grass not too far away.
As soon as it materialized, the Growlithe let out an agitated series of howls.
Garchomp: Grrr!
Naoki watched, expecting the Growlithe to follow its instincts and avoid a confrontation with the much stronger Garchomp, turning tail and running away.
However, the Growlithe did something entirely unexpected.
It stared defiantly at the Garchomp, completely unafraid, and prepared to launch an attack.
The Garchomp immediately reacted, its claw shooting out and slamming the Growlithe into the dirt.
The Growlithe yelped in pain, letting out a pitiful howl.
Naoki: "...” He began to doubt his approach, as this Growlithe seemed to have no sense of self-preservation, despite its adorable appearance.
After a moment of silence, Naoki instructed the Garchomp to pin down the howling Growlithe with its fist and placed the meat patty in front of it.
The Growlithe's attention immediately shifted to the tantalizing aroma, and it opened its mouth wide, baring its small fangs, ready to tear into the food.
But the next second, the meat was taken away.
The Growlithe bit down on empty air and glared angrily at Naoki.
Naoki attempted to communicate with it, pointing at himself and then the meat. "Listen to me, and I'll give you food."
Growlithe: "Growlithe!"
Naoki: "?"
He held up a finger, signaling for it to stop. "Wait, don't bark!"
Growlithe: "Growlithe! Growlithe!"
It lunged at Naoki's finger, trying to bite it, but Naoki was quick to pull back his hand.
"That's enough!"
The Garchomp's anger was palpable, and it released an aura that enveloped the Growlithe.
Finally, the Growlithe showed fear, its eyes wide with terror as it let out a pitiful howl, akin to the cry of a small creature in distress.
"There, that wasn't so hard, was it?" Naoki sighed, placing the meat patty in front of the Growlithe and trying to soothe it. "Don't be afraid. As long as you don't attack me, we won't hurt you. Go on, eat!"
The Growlithe's instincts as a wild creature made it hesitate, and under the Garchomp's intimidating presence, it dared not take a bite.
Seeing this, the Garchomp relented a little, its aura easing slightly as it grunted in disappointment.
The Growlithe immediately focused all its attention on the food, tearing into the meat patty with its sharp fangs. Its eating manner was rough and wild, a stark contrast to its cute appearance.
Naoki patiently waited for the Growlithe to finish, but as he approached, the Growlithe began to bare its teeth and growl threateningly.
"Growlithe! Growlithe! Growlithe-ruuff!"
"Ah, fine." Naoki sighed, a little disappointed.
Perhaps this wild Pokemon, with its low intelligence, was just not suited to being tamed by humans.
Based on the Growlithe's behavior, it seemed that it would only submit to Pokemon like the Garchomp, which clearly outclassed it in strength.
But for Naoki, a human with no physical prowess, the Growlithe would never submit.
The ancient Growlithe couldn't comprehend the bond between a trainer and a Pokemon, and so it didn't see him and the Garchomp as a unit.
Naoki realized that if he wanted to tame this Growlithe and make it submit to him, he would have to rely on his own strength to conquer it.
But there was a problem: how could a weak human like him hope to defeat a Growlithe? In a different world, like that of Monster Hunter, perhaps he would stand a chance.
In that world, he could don armor and wield weapons crafted from the Garchomp's scales and go on a hunt to take down the Growlithe and the Howling Moon.
But unfortunately, this was the world of Pokemon.
