Chapter 234: The Missing Horcrux
Chapter 234: The Missing Horcrux
Dobby's expression changed, and he looked at Ivan in surprise, not understanding how he knew the Diary was hard to destroy.
Ivan, of course, wouldn't say he learned it from books in his past life. Instead, he explained in a different way.
"Because I've tried many times, and only a few days ago did I finally find a way to destroy it. If you hadn't suddenly stolen it, I would have destroyed it long ago!"
Dobby's eyes widened, and he couldn't quite believe it. But if Ivan hadn't considered destroying the Diary, he wouldn't know it was hard to destroy. So, he believed Ivan to some extent.
"Tell me, where did you put that thing? We need to destroy it as soon as possible!" Ivan asked urgently.
Since Dobby wasn't carrying the Horcrux, he must have hidden it somewhere, and there was a risk it could be lost.
Ivan didn't want Tom to cause trouble while he was fusing his second bloodline, leading to any unexpected incidents.
"But..." Dobby's ears drooped, and he stammered, "It's gone, sir!"
"Gone?" Ivan was shocked. "Why? I clearly used a Sealing Runic Inscription to cut off its Magic Power, so it shouldn't have been able to affect you!"
Ivan couldn't believe that Dobby couldn't even keep an eye on a Diary. Did the Horcrux grow legs and run away?
"Tell me, what happened?" Ivan's gaze turned dangerous as he looked at Dobby.
Dobby shivered involuntarily and stammered, "Dobby has been trying to destroy it since he got it, but..."
Two days ago, in the middle of the night, by the roaring Fireplace.
A small, ugly House-Elf was holding a Diary with a white cover, slamming it repeatedly on the table, making a "thud" sound.
"Bad thing, bad thing!" Dobby, seeing that the Diary was undamaged, angrily threw it to the ground and stomped on it hard.
As a Horcrux, Tom Riddle was frustrated. Although the Sealing Runic Inscription limited his Magic Power, he could still sense what was happening in the outside world.
After being stolen by Dobby, Tom was initially delighted, thinking he had finally escaped the clutches of the young wizard and gained freedom.
Because he had seen this House-Elf at Malfoy Manor and knew who he was, he thought Dobby had come to rescue him.
But then Tom Riddle realized that this dirty House-Elf not only didn't rescue him but also Tortured him relentlessly.
In just a few hours, Tom experienced Slashing, Drowning, and Impact, among other forms of Torture.
Even though the Horcrux was durable, being treated this way by a lowly House-Elf made Tom Riddle furious!
However, Dobby didn't care about his thoughts and extended his index finger again, a blinding light instantly hitting the Horcrux on the ground. The Diary flew into the air, spinning back to its original spot.
The Diary fell to the ground undamaged, but the white cover now had cracks.
"Enough, you damned House-Elf! How dare you do this without your master's command?!" The Diary quickly flipped open, and black ink appeared on its pages.
But another blinding white light struck the Diary, sending it flying into the air again. Tom Riddle was nearly driven mad with anger.
When he landed again, Tom was shocked to see the dirty House-Elf sticking his left hand into the Fireplace, screaming about punishing himself for his mistakes.
Tom Riddle was speechless. How did he end up with such a crazy House-Elf?
"Bad Dobby has been punished. Now it's your turn", Dobby muttered, trembling, as he withdrew his burned left hand and focused on the Diary again.
"What more do you want to do? Your tricks won't destroy me!" Tom Riddle was inexplicably afraid. He couldn't predict what this mad House-Elf would do next.
Dobby didn't respond, using his still intact right hand to pick up the Diary.
Tom Riddle struggled, and black smoke poured out of the Diary, corroding Dobby's right hand.
"Bad thing!" Dobby screamed in anger, throwing the Diary into the burning Fireplace. His index finger emitted a red beam, and the flames in the Fireplace rose higher.
The black Diary flickered in the flames but showed no signs of burning.
Dobby's ears drooped, and he looked disappointed.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps could be heard from a distance.
Dobby's body trembled, and he reached for the Diary in the Fireplace, but the door had already opened.
Dobby snapped his fingers and vanished with Apparition.
The next moment, the side door of the Great Hall opened.
"Who was here just now? Strange, I clearly heard someone speaking, but where is the person?" The newcomer looked around, but no one was there, only the Fireplace burning brightly.
As the person was about to turn and leave, something flew out of the flames and landed in front of him.
The white cover of the Diary was charred black, and it was smoking. The person glanced at it, initially not intending to pay attention.
But the Diary opened on its own, and black ink slowly appeared on the pages.
"Dobby threw the Diary into the Fireplace. When he went back to get it, it was gone", Dobby said, blinking his eyes and looking very aggrieved.
"Didn't you see what the person looked like?" Ivan was frustrated. He had finally caught the thief who stole the Horcrux, but the Horcrux was now lost.
Ivan finally understood how Harry must have felt in the original timeline, with Dobby causing trouble under the guise of helping.
"No, sir", Dobby shook his head. He had snuck out and didn't want to be seen, so he waited a long time to make sure the person had left before returning.
"Did you hear the person's voice? Where did you lose the Diary?" Ivan sighed and asked.
Dobby tried to remember, but he had only heard footsteps and a voice, so he couldn't provide much information.
But he remembered the location clearly: it was by the Fireplace in the Great Hall.
This was the worst news for Ivan. It meant that anyone in the school could have taken the Horcrux.
