Chapter 233: Strawberry Ice Cream
Chapter 233: Strawberry Ice Cream
After the spell class, everyone headed towards the Great Hall.
In ten minutes, it would be lunchtime, and by arriving early, they could freely choose their favorite foods.
As they turned into the stone corridor, the nearby staircase creaked, its long steps descending from above.
A group of upperclassmen walked down the stairs, all of them looking dejected, like eggplants that had been frostbitten.
"Hey, Matt!"
Michael raised his hand in greeting and asked, "What's wrong with you all?"
Ved also recognized them as fifth-year Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students.
The boy named Matt glanced at Michael and Ved beside him, then walked over and sighed before speaking.
"We just had a Defense Against the Dark Arts class."
Michael understood, "So you got beaten up too? Professor Abigail doesn't hold back."
"I'd rather be beaten up!" Matt said glumly.
The young wizards all looked puzzled.
"Ved Gre?" A Gryffindor girl from behind pushed Matt aside and said to Ved, "I heard you fought with the new professor yesterday?"
As she spoke, the crowd in the corridor, which had been moving forward like a conveyor belt, paused for a moment, and many turned to look at Ved.
"No, I just got beaten up," Ved said expressionlessly.
"Yeah, he got beaten up badly. He only came out of the infirmary this morning," Padma added.
Hearing this, several of the fifth-year students sighed in disappointment.
Matt explained to them, "I heard that Professor Abigail's class involves real duels, and we've been looking forward to it for an entire week."
"But when the class started, it was no different from the others," Matt said disappointedly, "Exams, exams, endless exams!"
He spoke with deep resentment.
A Ravenclaw girl sighed helplessly, "What can we do? It's our OWLs year."
The OWLs exam results were crucial to the future of every young wizard, unless they were as wealthy as the Malfoy family or didn't care about their future. Otherwise, they had to take this exam extremely seriously.
Moreover, there was hardly any chance to retake the exam, making it a one-shot deal.
So, throughout this year, they would be like the high school seniors in Ved's past life, constantly memorizing, reviewing, training, and completing mountains of homework, honing their knowledge and skills through countless tests, all to achieve good grades.
The pressure was immense, as one could imagine.
Perhaps they were the only students who still looked forward to Professor Abigail's class after knowing the full picture, even if it meant getting beaten up, it was more interesting than doing homework.
If they got beaten up badly, they might even have a valid reason to skip a class or two and the corresponding homework.
Unfortunately, Professor Abigail did not initiate her unique teaching style in today's class.
Everyone sighed in unison and then continued their dejected walk towards the Great Hall, Ved and the others silently putting some distance between themselves and these energetic individuals.
"The OWLs year is terrifying!" Michael whispered, "I hope I won't be like them in three years."
Ved recalled the words his high school teachers often said in his past life, "As long as you prepare well and take your studies seriously, there's no need to panic when the exam arrives."
They were just too relaxed before, and now they feel the pressure of time."
Michael scratched his face, feeling as if he had been scolded as well.
Padma walked over and whispered, "You know, Professor Abigail changed her teaching style, right? Do you think it's because they're in their OWL Exams Year, or could it also be related to her argument with Madam Pomfrey yesterday?"
Michael paused for a moment, then nodded. "It's possible. I remember Fred and the others also have Defense Against the Dark Arts class this afternoon. We can confirm it by asking them about the class later."
Ved listened from the side and suddenly wondered, "Would Professor Abigail be scared away by the enormous workload after teaching for a few weeks?" There was only one Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in the school, and the weekly class hours were numerous. Moreover, all the classes were back-to-back, so she would be teaching for at least five or six hours every day.
Previously, Quirrell had his own agenda and was a double-core version. Lockhart didn't teach serious content and treated the classroom as his stage, wishing for even longer classes.
But with Professor Abigail's energetic teaching style, it would be normal for her to not be able to sustain it for long.
After lunch, Ved bid farewell to Michael and the others and headed to the Headmaster's Office alone.
"Strawberry ice cream."
Hearing the password, the stone statue jumped aside, revealing a doorway. Ved ascended the spiral staircase. Upon reaching the top, he found the oak door half-open.
"Honestly, Professor Dumbledore, Professor Abigail's teaching style is very problematic!"
Madam Pomfrey's indignant voice came from above:
"Do you know how many students have been sent to the hospital wing these past few days? I just sent away over a dozen, and in the blink of an eye, there will be another pile of them! The beds are all occupied, and I had to put poor Ogden in the corridor!"
Ved hadn't expected Madam Pomfrey to actually come and complain. The staircase had already reached the top, so he had no choice but to wait at the door.
"I think Professor Abigail is just not used to the students' level. She was previously facing more brutal battles and Dark Wizards running amok everywhere."
Professor Dumbledore spoke gently, "Once she assesses the students' level and understands her responsibilities, I believe her teaching style will become more suitable."
"She's like a lion entering a new territory, wanting to hunt every animal! But it's too much to be so harsh on second-year students as well!"
Madam Pomfrey was not convinced by Professor Dumbledore's vague words, and she even angrily issued a threat, "If she doesn't know how to restrain herself, I'll be watching her during the Defense Against the Dark Arts class from now on!"
"I don't think that's necessary. I'll have a talk with her," Professor Dumbledore said.
"Don't wait any longer, do it today!" Madam Pomfrey insisted.
"Of course," Professor Dumbledore said, "But Mr. Gre is already waiting for me outside. Regarding Professor Abigail's class, let's see if she makes any changes first, and then we'll discuss it, shall we?"
Ved stepped aside, and in a short while, Madam Pomfrey came out.
She was still wearing her nurse-like attire, and her body carried a faint scent of potions.
"Mr. Gre, your injuries have all healed," she said.
"Yes, Madam," Ved bowed slightly, "Thank you for your care. The potions you used were very effective."
