Chapter 233: Lanchi's Forbidden Wolf
Chapter 233: Lanchi's Forbidden Wolf
Night had fallen in Ikeli, and the curtains in Lanchi's dormitory balcony darkened the living room, leaving only the soft and warm lights from the card crafting workshop.
On nights like this, everything within the workshop seemed even more serene and fluid.
Lanchi placed and picked up his tools repeatedly, collaborating with Great Love Poet, both of them immersed in a tranquil state of mind that was indescribable.
On Lanchi's workbench, an unfinished semi-transparent magic card emanated intense arcs of dangerous light outward, its structure unable to stabilize and constantly warping under high pressure.
This phenomenon had occurred each time he crafted a magic card, right before it was about to self-destruct.
Yet, at this critical juncture, Lanchi turned a blind eye to the impending disaster and proceeded with the final steps—sealing the magic circuit and performing the last round of tuning and encapsulation.
Determinedly, he refused to give up on this card that was teetering on the brink of collapse or perhaps already beyond salvation. He linked one magic imprint after another, meticulously engraved throughout the day, forming a complete cycle of magical power circulation. This intricate process ensured that the card would be able to sustain continuous operation once filled with the user's mana.
Despite appearances suggesting that the card crafting was nearing success, in reality, it was heading towards a dead end.
The card had already exhibited signs of error in the previous steps, and its unstable structure stood as a glaring testament to that.
Normally, a failed product with such severe flaws should have been discarded and detonated, but Lanchi stubbornly persisted.
Rescuing this card's structure and enabling it to function smoothly without exploding was almost impossible.
And if he failed to contain it, the destructive force of the explosion would far surpass any previous attempts.
Outside the workshop door, Cat Boss widened its eyes in realization.
It finally understood Lanchi's true intentions.
Rather than trying to save this magic card, Lanchi was akin to tossing terrifying fuel into an erupting volcano!
That madman's card explosions from before weren't accidents; he wanted them to happen!
He was deliberately researching the most powerful destructive principles of magic card crafting!
All of it was leading up to this very moment, to this card!
"Meow meow meow! I'm out of here, meow!"
Cat Boss was scared out of its wits.
Its curiosity had gotten the better of it, keeping it glued to the outside of the card-crafting workshop as it watched Lanchi work.
It dared not imagine what would happen if this card detonated and shattered the entire barrier.
Not wasting another second, it leaped from the balcony and hid under a tree far from the Sage's College, keeping a wary eye on the window of Lanchi's dormitory.
Inside the workshop, Great Love Poet remained transfixed on the magic card, intently assisting Lanchi with the final life-or-death steps.
"Lanchi, what if the reaction doesn't stop?" she asked softly.
According to her judgment, the protective barrier was sufficient to contain the explosion and prevent it from affecting other rooms. However, the intricate spell crafted to safeguard the card maker was inadequate to protect Lanchi, and the extremely violent destructive explosion under high pressure might even incinerate the entire workshop.
If Lanchi died, she would perish alongside him.
But as a craftsman, she had never been one to shy away from danger or death, and her obsession in this regard far exceeded Lanchi's.
The true implication of her question to Lanchi was—
Compared to the card's failure, a more perilous outcome might be its success.
The new type of magic card explosion principle employed by Lanchi could generate a chain reaction and, under certain conditions, even trigger a chain explosion with another magic card.
If the temperature, pressure, and time reached a critical threshold, the energy produced could cause the magic formula to operate again, leading to a new magic card explosion. Lanchi termed this phenomenon as "self-sustaining card explosion," and he had even experimented successfully with consecutive card explosions.
Magic cards themselves were excellent explosive materials. By sealing them in an unstable state and reverting them to an unusable semi-finished state, they became primed for detonation.
Under extremely high temperatures and pressures, combined with the chain formula that Lanchi had researched through repeated card explosions, it was possible to trigger a chain explosion of magic cards.
And if it couldn't be stopped, there might be consequences that no one could predict!"
"...'
However, a look of compassion flashed in Lanchi's emerald green eyes, as if he had already thought this through.
"Humans always imagine the future, but this future is actually something to be feared," he said.
"But most people won't be afraid because they can't understand the implications."
As he spoke, he continued to engrave calmly.
Great Love Poet remained silent upon hearing this, and she began to cooperate with all her heart.
Although Lanchi's idea was dual in nature, she agreed with it.
It represented both the love and peace that Lanchi desired, as well as the terrifying balance that she favored.
Perhaps due to their intense focus, neither of them seemed to notice the drastic changes occurring with the card in their hands until the very last moment when it solidified and shattered. Even then, they didn't falter.
A brilliant light erupted before they could react, instantly illuminating the entire card-crafting workshop and sending out ripples of runaway magic.
One by one, the magical artifacts in the workshop exploded in a blaze of fire and noise, gradually stabilizing and subsiding...
...
"Who's renovating again?"
"Some guy was making a ruckus during the start of the semester, and now it's starting again!"
Students in the dorms above the Sage's College began to step out onto their balconies, leaning over the railings to complain.
"...'
Outside the dorms, in the garden, Cat Boss poked its head out from behind a large tree where it had been hiding.
It sensed that there had been an explosion in Lanchi's room, but it didn't seem as severe as it had imagined. However, the soundproofing barriers seemed to have been damaged.
"So it did explode after all..."
The small black cat covered its ears with its front paws, having just been cowering on the ground.
"What a waste of materials. I wonder how much that cost..."
Especially that silver, heart-like material—it was certain that it was something that couldn't be bought with money or measured by value.
After confirming that Lanchi's room wouldn't continue to explode, the cat hurried back, worried that Lanchi might be injured and in need of rescue.
It couldn't let anything happen to the human it had taken under its wing! The little black cat quickly raced to Lanchi's balcony, squeezed through the window, and made its way to the card-crafting workshop, a path it now knew well.
However, it was surprised to see Lanchi and Great Love Poet slumped in their chairs, looking utterly exhausted.
In front of them, a finished magic card hovered in mid-air.
It was an extremely unstable orange magic card, its shape seeming to waver as if it could explode at any moment.
"Or...orange epic?"
Cat Boss's brain froze.
"Let's see what this card does."
Great Love Poet mustered some energy and sat up straighter, despite her previous lethargy.
Although she had helped create this card, she was certain that her own magic cards were far superior.
As she reached out to touch it, her hand was scorched, and she quickly snatched it back, yelping in pain.
"I guess it's better not to touch this card with my bare hands."
Lanchi shook his head with a smile, watching Great Love Poet roll around on the sofa in discomfort.
"It's a true seal of warm sunshine."
He turned his head, seemingly unfazed by the pain, and grasped the magic card, smiling at it.
