Chapter 233: Hello, New World
Chapter 233: Hello, New World
Winning the Quidditch Cup put Gryffindor College in a state of high excitement, and the mood lasted for at least a week. Even the weather seemed to be celebrating the victory: as June approached, the days became hot and cloudless, making everyone feel that the weather was perfect for lounging on the lawn with a chilled Pumpkin Juice.
However, this was just a fleeting thought, as it was the end of May, and exams were approaching. Even the usually most active Fred and George were fully focused on preparing for their O.W.L.s.
Not to mention Percy, who dreamed of working at the Ministry of Magic after graduation. During a day of revision, he told Liam that thanks to Liam's help, he had made a good impression on Minister Bones. This had smoothed the path for his future career at the Ministry. Now, he just needed to achieve excellent results in his N.E.W.T.s to secure a good job at the Ministry. However, the pressure was making Percy somewhat anxious, and he would often yell at anyone who disturbed the peace of the Common Room.
The Study Group was running more smoothly, and the focus during this period was on helping the Weasley Twins revise for their exams, which in turn helped everyone review and consolidate their own knowledge. In the Wizarding World, exams were different from those in the Muggle world. High theoretical scores were not enough if practical skills were lacking, and a good practical performance could often make up for average theoretical scores.
This was why, in the original story, Hermione's Defense Against the Dark Arts scores were often lower than Harry's, especially considering that Harry could produce a Physical Patronus by his third year, something Hermione could not do at the time.
Therefore, during these Study Group sessions, the emphasis was on practical operations that were difficult to practice alone. In this relaxed and low-pressure environment, everyone made significant progress. Even students like Neville and Hannah, who usually struggled, could correctly cast the spells they were learning.
After everyone finished practicing the Cheering Charm that day, Liam pretended to be tired and went to bed early. Later that night, after confirming that everyone was asleep, he opened the Portal to the Multiverse General Store.
Liam spent some time packing his equipment and stood in front of the emporium, wearing leather armor under a windbreaker. These clothes were made after returning from the Beauty and the Beast world, using legendary Deathclaw hide and bulletproof cloth. Liam had also enhanced them with his magic.
After the trials in previous worlds, Liam felt his strength had improved. This time, he invested 32 Deviation Points to open a portal to a Level 6 world.
After one final check to ensure he had all his elixirs, weapons, and supplies, Liam held his wand in his right hand and a Jade Talisman in his left, and stepped into the pale blue vortex of the Portal.
From previous traversals, Liam had noticed that he always arrived near the world's Fate's Chosen (the protagonist) and often at a crucial turning point in the story.
This was why Liam was fully armed and prepared for any danger. Many stories, whether in novels, movies, or games, began with the protagonist narrowly escaping a life-threatening situation. Liam needed to be ready to make an immediate decision to either flee or fight back upon arrival.
However, as the blue light of the Traversal faded, Liam found himself in a grand hall with a Rococo style: a deep red carpet with scrollwork patterns covered the floor, and intricately carved wooden wainscoting adorned the walls. Directly in front of him was a delicate, milky white marble staircase. Looking up, he could see the entire ceiling was decorated with intricate plaster moldings and painted wood panels, with a grand golden crystal chandelier hanging from the center. On the iron shelves around the hall, a few potted plants added a touch of life to the house.
"Am I in someone's home?" Liam was thoroughly confused. Bursting into someone's house like this was undoubtedly very impolite.
Thinking this, Liam looked around and found no one. He then called out, "I apologize for intruding. Is anyone here?"
After shouting, Liam listened intently to the surroundings, but after a while, he heard no response.
"Given how new this house looks, it doesn't seem like it's unoccupied. Such a luxurious residence would likely have servants even if the owner isn't around", Liam thought. He then activated the Purple Mist Divine Art and called out again, straining to listen for any sounds.
After his second shout, Liam heard a very faint thud. It sounded like a heavy object had fallen on the carpet, and he wouldn't have heard it if he hadn't been using his internal energy.
Curious, Liam followed the stairs to a room on the second floor where he had heard the sound. He wondered if he had stumbled into a horror movie scenario. However, after squeezing the Thunder Charm Jade Talisman in his left hand, Liam felt that there was nothing to fear.
After ascending the stairs, he walked down a luxurious corridor lined with a thick carpet. The corridor was primarily decorated in light tones, with intricately carved wooden lattice on the walls, complemented by light-colored silk.
"Judging by the opulence, the owner of this house must be quite wealthy. But it's strange that there are no servants. This place might be a haunted house, and the ghosts here were once rich people", Liam mused, still finding time to criticize the mansion's owner.
Reaching the door from which the sound had come, Liam readied himself for battle and gently pushed the milky white, gold-trimmed wooden door open. The room came into view.
Unlike the demons and ghosts he had imagined, Liam saw a young girl in a white nightgown lying in a bed, one arm hanging over the side. A vase had fallen to the carpet in front of the bedside table.
Liam's detection magic confirmed that the girl was an ordinary human, and she was in a very weak, unconscious state. She had likely heard his shouts from downstairs but was too weak to respond, using her last bit of strength to knock over the vase for help.
Seeing this, Liam quickly ran to the bed and began examining the girl's condition.
After using magic, checking her pulse, and even his BB Gun for a thorough examination, Liam concluded that the girl had a simple lung infection that had severely worsened. Her ashen face and weak breathing indicated that she was in critical condition. If he didn't intervene, she would likely die within a few hours.
Since entering the mansion, Liam hadn't seen any signs of electricity, which explained why a girl from a wealthy family had allowed a simple lung infection to deteriorate to such a dangerous state.
"Before the invention of antibiotics, diseases could so easily claim human lives", Liam thought, marveling at human fragility. He rummaged through his Spatial Bag, searching for a way to treat the girl. Given her current condition, even with advanced technology, it would be difficult to save her. He could only hope there was another means to save this young girl.
