Chapter 233: Cangling Debate of Swords (41)
Chapter 233: Cangling Debate of Swords (41)
Lingzhong Realm, Lake Heart Island.
Looking up, the sky was pitch-black, like ink. The island’s forest was shrouded in thick, tangible shadows that seemed to take physical form.
At this moment, every treetop in the woods bore a small bell. Each bell emitted a silvery glow, like a solitary lantern piercing the darkness, creating an eerie, ghostly scene.
“Hmph… An outcome I expected.” The Bell Demon grinned menacingly as she approached Feng Bu Jue. “Now you understand why that Taoist failed to defeat me back then?”
Feng Bu Jue knelt on the ground, clutching his wounded waist, his breath ragged. “You’re right… This was… inevitable.” He suddenly chuckled. “From the start, I knew your strength was formidable. For an artifact like the Adamantine Bell, a tool meant to exorcise evil, to fall into the hands of a demonic cultivator like you and still be turned against us… That alone proves…” He coughed up a mouthful of blood. “You’re no ordinary foe.”
The Bell Demon no longer resembled a little girl. Her form had grown to match an adult’s, though her body was wrapped in black mist. Her silhouette and voice—clearly a woman in her thirties—confirmed her gender, but all other features remained obscured.
“Hmph… If you knew this from the start, why did you order your companion to split up and flee separately?” The Bell Demon sneered. “Didn’t you shout, ‘Split up and buy time’? Right to my face, no less.”
“What’s wrong with my tactics?” Feng Bu Jue retorted as he forced himself upright.
At this point, Feng Bu Jue was a spent arrow. Earlier, he’d used Death Poker alongside his Spirit Sense Body Technique to force the Bell Demon to target him first. Retreating while switching skills and equipment constantly, he’d carved a bloody path through the Ten Thousand Bells Evil Array, even whittling down the Bell Demon’s health.
But facing a boss he couldn’t defeat alone came at a cost. All five of his Vitality Value Supplements were gone, as were every last Death Poker card. His stamina remained at a third, but his vitality had plummeted to 26%, compounded by a Bleeding Status Effect.
In short, even without the Bell Demon’s final strike, Feng Bu Jue had minutes left.
Of course, he still had a -500 potion, but he’d decided not to use it. Even he doubted he’d survive the encounter, and using it would likely be a waste.
“If you truly understood my strength, you’d have fought together with your companion. That way, you might’ve had a sliver of a chance,” the Bell Demon scoffed. “But instead, you split up, hoping to buy time? Do you really think prolonging the battle on my territory would benefit you?”
“It’s not about benefit,” Feng Bu Jue replied calmly. “I chose the only way to guarantee victory.”
The Bell Demon paused slightly. “Oh? Let me guess… Are you about to say you’ve got some devastating explosive on you, ready to detonate and reduce me to dust?”
“No,” Feng Bu Jue said. “I’m simply telling you… you’ve been poisoned.”
“Hmph… Is that your final joke?” The Bell Demon laughed coldly.
“This poison is weak. From your reaction—or lack thereof—neither its onset nor its effects have been noticeable,” Feng Bu Jue explained. “If you were an interdimensional traveler like me, a glance at your ‘status bar’ would’ve revealed it. But you’re not.”
“You’re weaving a convincing tale, but I’d sooner believe you’ll self-destruct.” The Bell Demon smirked, clearly unconvinced.
“Your confidence rests on two assumptions: first, that as a spirit entity, you’re immune to poison; second, that you still can’t figure out how I poisoned you,” Feng Bu Jue cut through her thoughts. “Since victory is assured, I’ll indulge you. First, I used this…”
He displayed the Goblin Toxic Gas Mask. “When you bound me to the stake and spoke to me, you were already poisoned. This is called a Poison Attribute Attack, a unique technique of interdimensional travelers. You know well that any weapon we wield—unless purely physical—can affect spirit entities like you.” He switched his facial equipment to stealth mode. “Like the submachine gun I used earlier. Those bullets barely harmed you, but the occasional flames they produced did, didn’t they?”
Instantly, the bells on the surrounding trees began to tremble violently, some even falling. Their owner’s composure was cracking.
“You’ve chased me for too long. Even if movement didn’t accelerate the toxin’s spread, after one hour and seven minutes…” Feng Bu Jue exhaled sharply. “Even at a 1% loss per minute, you’re down to 33%. Add my attacks along the way…” He paused. “In short, even if I die, you won’t reach my teammate in time. That’s why I say this is a guaranteed victory.”
“Enough.” The Bell Demon cut him off. “Your talk of ‘status,’ ‘health,’ ‘attributes’—none of it concerns me.” Her voice darkened. “You’re just trying to tell me I’m about to die, aren’t you?”
“Correct.” Feng Bu Jue nodded.
Suddenly, the forest’s bells fell silent, and stillness returned.
The black mist dissipated, revealing the Bell Demon’s true form. She towered over Feng Bu Jue, her European features strikingly beautiful. Her pale purple skin bore no hair, only curled ram horns sprouting from her temples. Her body was bare, save for a mane-like covering from her chest to her hips, shielding her most sensitive areas. Below, her legs were smooth, elongated thighs leading to massive, hairy hooves.
Shaking his head, Feng Bu Jue muttered, “So lowbrow. This is beyond ridiculous. What’s this—a fur-lined corset? Why not grow fur everywhere or go completely naked?” He shamelessly fixated on her exposed chest, staring unblinkingly at the uncovered orbs.
“Your companion was right. You’re a narcissist beyond redemption.” The Bell Demon, having monitored both players, knew their conversations well.
She approached, looming over him with disdain. “Did you really have to explain your entire plan before my death? If you’d stalled me with idle chatter, I might’ve perished unknowingly, sparing your life.” With one hand, she gripped his throat, lifting him effortlessly. “Now that I know my end is near… why not take another soul with me?”
“Damn…” Blood trickled from Feng Bu Jue’s lips as his face turned purple. Yet he kept his eyes wide, his gaze fixed at a 45-degree angle toward her chest. With his last sliver of vitality and dignity fading, he hissed through clenched teeth, “Truly… not a single gap…”
In an instant, a flash of cold light split the air, and blood sprayed. The hand around his throat went limp.
Feng Bu Jue felt his throat loosen as he crashed to the ground, his vitality halting at 3%. Before him, the Bell Demon’s head was gone.
The horned head soared skyward, tracing a parabolic arc before landing seven or eight meters away. The forest’s countless bells vanished seconds later.
The shadows dissipated rapidly, and the sky brightened. Golden dusk sunlight pierced the darkness, slicing through the trees to illuminate the island.
Before Feng Bu Jue could process the sudden turn of events, the Bell Demon’s headless corpse swayed, then toppled toward him.
For a player with only 3% vitality, being crushed by a body weighing at least fifty kilograms would almost certainly reduce him to white light. Feng Bu Jue had survived death—there was no way he’d perish now. Rolling aside, he dodged the corpse. As his vitality dipped below 2%, he popped a -500 into his mouth, curing his Bleeding Status Effect.
“Phew… That was close,” he sighed, sitting up.
The next moment, Si Yu’s disapproving gaze met his.
“Damn… not a single gap,” she echoed his final words in her signature icy tone.
“Didn’t I tell you to split up?” Feng Bu Jue asked. “If you’d stayed nearby and the boss had killed me at 30% health, then tracked your direction…” He trailed off. “We’d have faced a party wipe.”
Si Yu ignored him, muttering, “She was nearly six feet tall, half-human, half-ram…”
Feng Bu Jue scowled. “Are you mocking my taste, or are you jealous?”
“I’m just amazed how someone must’ve lost their mind to react the way you did… at the brink of death,” Si Yu chuckled lightly.
“This is just a game. I wouldn’t have actually died,” Feng Bu Jue shrugged, his tone light.
Si Yu studied his face for a few seconds, then said nothing. Finally, she murmured, “Perhaps.”
Without another word, she sat beside him, hugging her knees, and silently handed him two Vitality Value Supplements.
