Chapter 233: A Mysterious Creature Known as Roaring Tail
Chapter 233: A Mysterious Creature Known as Roaring Tail
Bab was perplexed by Naoki's shocked expression.
It moved closer, curious about what was happening, but Naoki covered its eyes.
"Eight mother?" Ba Bo asked, confused.
Naoki shook his head. "Kids shouldn't watch."
The scene before him reminded him of a Monster Hunter game where the Alatreon devoured smaller herbivores.
Naoki spoke as he peered through the telescope at the hillside across from him once more.
Roaring Moon was nowhere to be seen, having likely finished its hunt and departed.
A silence fell over the area once more.
Not long after Roaring Moon left, the herd of Trubbish and Phantump cautiously returned to the large rock where they had been sleeping earlier.
"It seems that Roaring Moon is at the top of the food chain in this area," Naoki murmured.
What intrigued him even more was the feeling he got from Roaring Moon, which was completely different from other Pokemon.
It was like an ancient, primal creature from a time before sentience, wild and ferocious.
Compared to the anomalous ancient Pokemon, modern Pokemon had evolved to be more well-rounded.
Living alongside humans for many years had also guided their evolution toward a more harmonious and symbiotic relationship with people.
The disparity in their temperaments was as vast as that between a savage wilderness dweller from ancient times and a modern-day office worker.
And it wasn't just Roaring Moon; according to their settings, the other anomalous Pokemon weren't exactly benevolent either.
"So primitive, indeed!"
Naoki suddenly lost his enthusiasm for continuing his observations.
He felt that he couldn't approach these anomalous Pokemon with the same stereotypes he had for regular Pokemon.
Just then, a series of intense explosions reverberated from the lower layers of the valley.
Naoki snapped out of his thoughts at the commotion and rushed to the fence at the edge of the cliff with a few of his Pokemon, looking down.
In the midst of the blazing fire, a group of weaker Pokemon were fleeing in panic.
Suddenly, a beam of heat swept over them, igniting the nearby trees and grass with its scorching temperature and blocking the path of several Raichu.
One of the Raichu angrily looked up, its cheeks crackling with intense electricity before it fired a bolt of lightning upward.
But it missed.
Naoki adjusted his telescope.
Then, in the night sky, he spotted a mysterious Pokemon with a body shimmering like flames, a pair of red horns on its head, a tail shimmering with silver metallic luster, and three pairs of cool light wings floating behind it.
"Iron Moth... Future Species of Fire Moth..." Naoki recalled the Pokemon's name. "Is it hunting again?"
No, it didn't seem so!
The Iron Moth pursued the Raichu like a UFO, occasionally using heat rays to force them to move, as if trying to herd them somewhere or observe their behavior.
At that moment, the Raichu had been driven to the edge of a waterfall.
The Iron Moth's body glowed, and its light wings fully extended, resembling an incarnation of a flame deity. A terrifying heat ray gathered on it.
The Raichu on the ground watched this scene unfold.
Perhaps, just like humans could unleash unprecedented power when faced with a crisis...
The Raichu suddenly erupted with intense electric light.
The electric-type energy resonated, drawing thunderclouds in the sky, and in the next second, a thick bolt of lightning struck the Iron Moth directly.
The Iron Moth's attack was interrupted, and it began to smoke like a malfunctioning machine before falling into the deep, bottomless pit below.
With the crisis averted, the Raichu panted heavily. They didn't linger, resting briefly before running off into the distance and soon disappearing into the intricate terrain.
Witnessing this, Naoki breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good. It seems that these modern Pokemon aren't completely defenseless after all."
Bab and the Pidgeot had seen what happened in the lower layers of the valley, and looking at their expressions, Naoki spoke sternly, "You saw that? It's dangerous here, so be careful not to wander off."
"Right, mother!" Baba nodded repeatedly.
Compared to the ancient anomalous Pokemon exuding wildness, these future species seemed even more formidable.
Naoki decided to stop for now and put away his telescope, turning to head back to the observation station.
The next morning, the Parthia Pit regained its radiant, sacred appearance, bathed in brilliant light.
Looking at the breathtaking sight, one would never guess that this place transformed into the most cruel and terrifying hunting ground at night.
Naoki packed up his things and slung his travel backpack over his shoulders, ready to continue his journey.
As noon approached, they arrived at a forest enveloped in colorful crystals.
Gazing at the tree roots completely covered in crystallization, Naoki murmured, "It seems that the energy crystallization has affected these trees as well."
However, come to think of it, the same principle applied to Pokemon Hyper Crystallization.
When a Pokemon underwent Hyper Crystallization, its body would be enveloped in a layer of special crystals, shimmering like cut gemstones and radiating dazzling light.
According to Naoki's understanding, the Hyper Crystallization phenomenon was closely related to the Hyper Crystal Energy emanating from the depths of the Parthia region.
And the source of this energy... could it be the Parthusagos? Naoki could only speculate.
Unfortunately, as he had crossed over before the release of the Purple DLC, both he and the locals of this world had no way of knowing the truth.
But based on the information provided in the game, could the Parthusagos be lurking underground? As this thought crossed his mind, Naoki reached out and touched the energy crystal on the tree, faintly sensing an immense power within.
Gouldington stood guard nearby, tilting his head as he watched his reflection in the crystal.
Suddenly, he spotted something through the crystal flying towards them from behind.
"Agassi!"
Gouldington immediately snapped to attention, turning and swiping with his claw. The object was sent flying away.
It collided with a tree, and a face slammed into the trunk, sliding down awkwardly to the grassy ground.
"Hmm? What is that?"
Naoki stood up, his right hand gripping the two Poke Balls in his pocket.
"Agassi..." Gouldington shook his head, indicating that he didn't know either.
After getting a clear look at the mysterious creature, Naoki froze in place.
"Pound?" No! It's not Pound! It's Roaring Tail, the ancient species of Pound!"
Connecting it to the ferocious Roaring Moon he had witnessed the previous night, Naoki immediately raised his guard. "Gouldington, be on alert!"
"Agassi!"
As he spoke, the Roaring Tail, which had slid down the tree trunk, staggered to its feet, its adorable little face marked by a red streak left by the tree, like a wheel had rolled over it.
"Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar!"
Roaring Tail exuded a strong sense of wildness, jumping and letting out a spirited battle cry like a chest-beating gorilla from the ancient world.
Then, it wildly charged towards Gouldington with its head down.
Gouldington was bewildered, raising his hand to swat away the little wild thing.
However, Roaring Tail suddenly opened its mouth, revealing a pair of sharp fangs that clamped down on Gouldington's claw.
"Agassi!"
Gouldington was startled and began to flail his arm, trying to shake off Roaring Tail.
But Roaring Tail held on tightly, refusing to let go despite Gouldington's efforts.
Seeing this, Naoki also stepped forward and pulled at Roaring Tail's body, attempting to pry it off.
For a moment, Roaring Tail's round body was stretched out, but it still didn't release its bite.
Naoki even managed to pull out a few tufts of its fur before falling backward and landing on his backside.
"Use Flamethrower to burn it!" Naoki commanded, deciding to resort to force when gentler methods failed.
Gouldington immediately unleashed a Flamethrower.
Roaring Tail's body was instantly engulfed in scorching flames, and it let out a pitiful cry before finally letting go.
Its fur was still smoldering as it fell to the ground, and it frantically ran around to put out the flames.
Once the fire was finally extinguished, Roaring Tail's body erupted with a powerful psychic wave.
It roared angrily, "Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar!"
Then, a materialized psychic wave blasted forth from its body, directed at Gouldington.
Witnessing this, Naoki knew that the conflict couldn't be resolved amicably.
Without hesitation, he gave Gouldington a command: "Flare Blitz!"
Dragon-type moves were ineffective against Roaring Tail, and Fighting-type moves would only inflict a quarter of the usual damage. Rather than continue the protracted struggle, it was better to unleash a powerful move.
Perhaps due to the vast difference in their strengths, Roaring Tail's psychic shockwave was instantly crushed by Goulington.
The next second, the two collided.
With a deafening boom, Roaring Tail was sent flying, the immense force causing its body to slam into a tree and fall to the ground, incapacitated.
Goulington retracted the flames back into its body.
Naoki stepped forward and handed a bottle of HP Up juice to Goulington.
Goulington took it and guzzled down the contents, chugging noisily.
Naoki approached the now-incapacitated Roaring Tail and examined it.
"Aside from the large ponytail on its forehead, it doesn't seem much different from a regular Jigglypuff." Naoki recalled Jigglypuff's appearance, carefully comparing the two.
"No, Jigglypuff doesn't have such sharp fangs, and its body isn't as large as Roaring Tail's."
This Roaring Tail was easily a meter in length, almost twice the size of a typical Jigglypuff.
At that moment, a recovered Goulington walked over and warily eyed the Roaring Tail.
"Agassi?"
"This Pokemon is too wild," Naoki commented.
However, compared to the brutal Roaring Moon from the previous night, this Roaring Tail was much more manageable.
Should he attempt to capture it?
Naoki pondered for a while before reaching into his backpack and retrieving an empty Poke Ball, which he held against the Roaring Tail's forehead.
The next second, Roaring Tail's body transformed into a red light and was pulled into the Poke Ball.
"Thud, thud!"
The Poke Ball dropped to the ground, and the sphere began to shake violently, the button at its center flashing with blinding red light.
Once, twice, thrice...
It seemed the Pokemon within was struggling fiercely.
However, soon enough, the shaking slowed and eventually stopped, and the red light ceased flashing.
This indicated that the capture was successful.
"Success?"
Naoki picked up the Poke Ball, hesitated for a moment, then aimed it at the empty space beside them and pressed the button.
A white light flashed, and the now-conscious Roaring Tail reappeared before him and Goulington.
"Waaah, waaah, waaah, waaaah!"
Even in its extremely weakened state, Roaring Tail maintained a fierce and agitated demeanor.
It opened its mouth, baring its sharp fangs, and floated in the air towards Naoki, intending to attack him.
However, before it could get close, Goulington swatted it away with a swift slap.
"Waaah, waaah, waaah, waaaah!!!"
Roaring Tail jumped up in a frenzy, letting out a fierce howl in its original position.
Naoki's head hurt from the piercing sound. He picked up the Poke Ball and recalled the still-aggressive Roaring Tail.
The surroundings returned to calm, and Naoki looked down at the Poke Ball in his hand, deep in thought:
"As expected, Poke Balls don't have a brainwashing function... Even when a Pokemon is captured, it doesn't necessarily obey."
He pondered Roaring Tail's behavior and couldn't help but find it amusing:
"True to its name as an ancient species of Pound, despite being a Fairy and Psychic-type Pokemon, it rarely uses moves like Hypnosis and instead prefers to attack physically or with its teeth."
"Such behavior is indeed like that of a primitive savage, befitting its identity. What a pity, though—it's so adorable, yet its personality is so wild and ferocious."
Now, the question was how to deal with Roaring Tail.
Naoki couldn't help but fall into deep thought.
It was clear that if he couldn't thoroughly tame Roaring Tail, there was no way it could return to the ranch with him.
With its current personality, if he and Goulington weren't vigilant, it could easily take the lives of a few Pokemon on the ranch.
For instance, it could devour Spritzee in one bite, snap the necks of the hens in the chicken coop in the dead of night, or even attack Aurorus and Glaceon.
Thinking of this, Naoki let out a sigh.
"This is indeed a tricky situation."
