Chapter 232: Your Voice is Too Weak to Dream of Commanding a Warship
Chapter 232: Your Voice is Too Weak to Dream of Commanding a Warship
Sazil was kept behind. Not that he could escape even if he tried—Klah kept constant watch. At night, he’d be bound tightly; only during daylight hours would they release him.
And the moment he was untied, they’d call it “training” and proceed to beat him mercilessly.
“Quick! Tell me your name!”
Klah’s punch sent Sazil’s body flying.
“Sa Zi Er Kuro.”
“No surname! Just your name! What’s your name?!”
“Kuro.”
“Your voice is too weak! I can’t even hear you! Your whisper couldn’t command a dinghy, let alone a Warship!”
“I’m Kuro!!”
“Good! Now we’re getting somewhere!”
Then the beating intensified.
Sometimes the woman who could grow and shrink at will would join in. Sazil had naively assumed a woman might show mercy, but he couldn’t even withstand a single strike. The moment she touched him, his body went limp, every ounce of strength vanishing.
“Mwahahaha! Kuro, the day you get drained by me has finally come!”
She’d then plant her hands on her hips and cackle maniacally, gloating.
Afterward, Sazil would still end up black-and-blue.
Eventually, Sazil saw the truth—their goal wasn’t to train him as Navy crew, but simply to find an excuse to pummel him. Instead of breaking his spirit, this only fueled his defiance.
Fine! He’d stop running!
“So you want Navy? Fine! I’ll join! Not just join—I’ll become an Admiral! And I’ll make every last one of you pay!”
Fueled by rage, Sazil vowed: I’m done being a pirate!
After all, the sea was about ambition. Pirate or Navy—what difference did it make? In this increasingly chaotic era, the Navy needed fresh blood.
If that’s how it must be, he’d use their own ranks to destroy them.
He’d remember every beating, every humiliation. He’d turn them into fuel, absorbing their strengths until he could crush them all beneath his heel.
Especially that culprit.
Now he understood—Lida and Klah’s hatred stemmed from Lucius Kro. That man’s exploits in the Top War proved he wasn’t someone ordinary folk could challenge.
So they took out their frustration on him, another Kuro.
That commander was clearly strong enough to deserve his rank. The fact he was undercover in the Navy meant he had an agenda.
Evidence? Klah was once a pirate. Lida, that woman, didn’t seem like Navy material either. And Sazil himself? A pirate by birth. Gathering misfits like this—no one would believe they lacked ulterior motives.
Sazil’s mission was clear: uncover Kuro’s true purpose and ambition, twist it into a weapon, and strike when the time was right.
“Just wait. You’re Kuro. I’m Kuro too. What makes you think your name gives you the right to do as you please? I’ll make you pay, Kuro!”
Sazil hissed under his breath.
“Hmm? You calling me?”
Suddenly, a voice cut through behind him.
Sazil froze, spinning around to see Kuro standing there.
A fawning smile stretched across his face as he hunched his shoulders, hands rubbing together eagerly.
“Oh yes, Sir! I was just marveling how fate blessed me to share a name with someone as mighty as you! I’ll strive to learn from your greatness!”
“Uh…”
Kuro blinked, surprised. This brat had still been glaring murder two days ago—what brought this sudden change?
He pulled out a cigar, biting the end, and reached for his lighter. Sazil scrambled to strike a match, lighting it in a flash and thrusting it forward.
“Allow me! Allow me!”
As the cigar flared to life, Kuro exhaled a plume of smoke. “So you’re joining the Navy now?”
Sazil’s expression turned solemn. “Yes, Sir! These past few days under Mr. Klah’s education convinced me—piracy leads nowhere. Only the Navy offers a true path.”
What the hell? Is he getting off on this abuse?!
“Then good luck.”
Kuro waved dismissively, turning to leave.
Sazil exhaled in relief—his ruse had worked.
“Commander Kuro!” Sazil called out. “I hope you’ll continue guiding me!”
These words froze Kuro mid-step.
“Now that you mention it…”
Kuro turned back, eyes gleaming. “I actually do need your help. I’ve been practicing your ‘Nails Martial Art’—but I’d like to test my progress. Let’s spar and see where I fall short.”
Sazil: …
Why did I say that?!
Am I asking for another beating?!
“Don’t worry,” Kuro grinned. “Unlike that idiot Klah, I’ll hold back. Just attack me—no need to hold back.”
He won’t fight back?!
Sazil’s eyes lit up. “Of course, Commander Kuro! I’d be honored for this chance to train with you up close!”
Finally! A chance for revenge!
Kuro stood still, his body suddenly rippling with jet-black to purplish Armament Haki, coating him like armor. His voice deepened: “Give me your full strength, Sazil.”
Sazil’s lips twitched. That flicker of hope died as quickly as it appeared.
Of course he knew what Armament Haki was—but he hadn’t even reached the threshold of mastering it. That was his next goal.
His own Haki hadn’t even touched the door to mastery. This man’s? Fully perfected.
What a monster!
Sazil swallowed hard. “You promise you won’t hit me back?”
“Promise. Now hurry up.”
“Then here I go.”
Cautiously, Sazil stepped forward and threw a straight punch at Kuro’s chest.
No reaction.
Kuro frowned. “Put some power into it!”
“I understand!”
Sazil brightened again. So he’s testing Haki’s defensive properties? Fine! Even if he won’t budge, I can vent my frustration!
“Nails Style!”
His fist erupted with a ripple of concentrated strength, slamming into Kuro’s chest.
“Die, Lucius Kro!”
The moment the words escaped, his body locked up. A shockwave erupted around him, sending him flying across several meters.
“You—”
He spat blood, glaring up. “You said you wouldn’t fight back!”
“I didn’t,” Kuro shrugged. “That was just Haki’s automatic defense.”
He rubbed his chin, contemplating.
“As expected, the Nails Martial Art’s techniques apply to Haki too. It’s the same principle—focusing force. By channeling Haki through this fist style, it can become as sharp as nails.”
Kuro smiled faintly. “At that point, even without attacking, I’ll be able to deal damage through Haki alone.”
