Chapter 232: Blood and Moon, Embodiment of Primitive Ferocity!
Chapter 232: Blood and Moon, Embodiment of Primitive Ferocity!
At four in the afternoon, Naoki safely reached the first observation post.
Surprisingly, he hadn't encountered any dangers along the way, nor were there any terrifying paradoxical Pokemon lurking about as depicted in the game.
On the contrary, the upper reaches of the giant pit exuded a sense of tranquility and beauty, not too different from the outside world.
Pokemon like Hoppip, Qwilfish, Snubbull, Dodrio, and Raichu lived peacefully here.
Especially near the observation post, where the building, covered in ivy, was nestled beneath a hillside, and there were hardly any wild Pokemon in sight.
Perhaps, as Dr. Olin had mentioned, the locations of the observation posts were carefully selected to be in safe areas.
Opening the door to the observation post, Naoki found the interior sparsely furnished. The room had a hexagonal structure, with unused construction materials stacked on either side of the entrance, and thick pipes for energy transmission standing at the innermost part.
A schedule for the researchers' work was pasted on the wall, and a lone single bed sat forlornly in the corner, a layer of dust indicating that no one had visited in a while.
Naoki was unsurprised by the sparse accommodations. He put down his backpack and prepared to take a short rest before venturing out to observe the nearby Pokemon ecosystem.
Just then, the communication device in the observation post suddenly rang.
Naoki answered it and heard Dr. Olin's voice on the other end.
"Is this Naoki?"
"Yes, it's me, Doctor."
"I knew it was you when I saw the notification that the observation post was being used. So, you've safely reached the interior of the giant pit! How's it going? Did you encounter any problems along the way?" Dr. Olin asked.
"Not yet," Naoki thought for a moment and then asked, "By the way, Doctor, are there no paradoxical Pokemon near the first observation post? I didn't see a single one on my way here."
At his question, Dr. Olin's tone turned slightly amused. "So, you're here for the paradoxical Pokemon, are you? It seems you've taken a liking to them, and Professor Fortu and I are delighted to hear that."
"However, I suspect that at this time, those paradoxical Pokemon are probably hiding in inconspicuous places."
"Their habitat is from a distant ancient era, and they have very different lifestyles from modern Pokemon. Some paradoxical Pokemon are nocturnal and prefer to venture out at night. Perhaps after dark, you'll have a better chance of spotting them."
"I see..." Naoki nodded thoughtfully. "Thank you very much for the information, Dr. Olin."
"You must be tired after a whole day of traveling. I won't keep you from resting. I'm excited to see what kind of paradoxical Pokemon you'll catch. Bring it by the lab to show us when you can!"
"Will do."
After the call ended, Naoki released his Flygon and Pupitar from their Poke Balls.
"You can go outside and play for a bit, but don't go too far," he told them.
It was their first time visiting this place, and the two Pokemon couldn't help but feel intrigued.
So, as soon as they had permission, they rushed outside.
Seeing this, Naoki felt a bit uneasy about these two flying creatures roaming freely, so he asked Golurk to keep an eye on them.
With the three Pokemon gone, Naoki was left alone in the research facility to sort through the items he had brought.
First were the essential cooking tools and ingredients, which he took out of his travel backpack and placed to the side, planning to cook a simple dinner later.
Next were some changes of clothes, several empty Poke Balls, and a set of basic observation tools, including a compass for direction and a telescope for long-distance viewing.
These were all specially prepared for this trip.
After organizing everything, Naoki began preparing dinner.
Naoki turned to them and asked, "Did you discover anything interesting?"
Paploo's eyes sparkled as it replied, "Pap, pap, paploo!" indicating how beautiful it found this new place to be.
Flygon, on the other hand, looked eager and determined. It had sensed several powerful auras in the vicinity, suggesting the presence of strong Pokemon dwelling nearby! Golurk had also sensed them and deliberately released its aura to keep any curious Pokemon at bay.
The Pokemon chattered away, and Naoki listened while handing out sandwiches to them.
They skillfully took the sandwiches with their claws and devoured them, their faces reflecting pure bliss.
After dinner, as night fell, the area outside the observation post grew quiet, with only the occasional rustling sounds coming from an unknown source.
Unable to sleep, Naoki stepped outside with his telescope to search for the paradoxical Pokemon that Dr. Olin had mentioned, the ones that were more active at night.
The weather was excellent, and even at night, the visibility in the area remained high.
A full moon hung in the night sky, its silvery-white light filtering through the clouds and casting a dreamy veil over the entire Pariah Pit.
Golurk and the other Pokemon stood guard by Naoki's side.
Through the telescope, Naoki scanned the distant cliffs, and the scene unfolded before him like a painting.
"Oh, there's a Phanpy and an Aron sleeping under the rocks, how adorable."
"As expected, Braviary is out and about. Its appearance in reality is truly magnificent!"
"Hmm? Is that a Solosis? A quasi-divine Pokemon from the Unova region! I wonder what it's up to?"
Through the telescope, Naoki saw the Solosis happily running out of a cave behind it, lowering its head to sniff around, occasionally biting at the grass, and then spitting it out.
"A grass-type Solosis, huh?"
Naoki couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
Solosis was a rather rare Pokemon, and its evolved form, Reuniclus, was both powerful and fierce. He wondered if he should catch one.
As these thoughts crossed his mind, something unusual caught his eye through the telescope.
The group of Phanpy and Aron, who had been sleeping peacefully nearby, suddenly woke up and scattered in different directions.
The Solosis also seemed to sense something terrifying, and it panicked, turning to flee as well.
But before it could run a few steps, a pitch-black shadow loomed over it, blocking out the sky.
Naoki was taken aback for a moment, and then he shifted his gaze upward. That's when he saw it—a flash of blood-red speeding across the sky.
It had a massive body, crimson eyes, vicious claws, and behind it, a pair of fully extended, colossal dragon wings that blotted out the moon, resembling a broken blood moon.
Suddenly, a strange roar reverberated through the entire valley.
The ferocious Pokemon dove down towards the Solosis below and brutally devoured it.
Under the moonlight, the sight of Thundurus' fangs, now stained with blood, was particularly horrifying.
It was engaging in the most primitive act of hunting and feeding!
"Holy crap!" Naoki exclaimed, his eyes widening as he felt his worldview shatter.
"Is this what a paradoxical Pokemon is?"
At that moment, Naoki understood what the AI doctor in the game had meant when it said, "The vigorous life force of paradoxical Pokemon would destroy modern ecosystems."
If a wild and savage Pokemon like Thundurus were to escape the giant pit and enter the outside world, Naoki dared not imagine the consequences.
