Chapter 231: The Fine Line Between Regret and Relief [47]
Chapter 231: The Fine Line Between Regret and Relief [47]
Why...
Why was there a man inside the meteorite?
Who was he? With silver hair, a tall and slender frame, pale skin, and eyes that shone with a pale blue light, as if gazing into the depths of the starry sky itself.
Such a man... Terumi Mei had never seen him before, for if she had, she would surely remember. And yet, there was a strange sense of familiarity.
As these thoughts raced through her injured and chaotic mind, along with the mysteries of the falling meteorite and Feng Ye's sudden appearance, she stood there, dumbfounded, staring at Feng Ye for several seconds. Then, her vision began to darken, and the injuries within her body seemed to overwhelm her.
"Damn..."
"I can't just collapse like this..."
Terumi Mei gritted her teeth, forcing herself to keep her eyes open.
It had been hard enough for her to come across a man so handsome that her heart skipped a beat at first sight, and now to die without even learning his name was too much to bear. She struggled to stand upright, but her strength was fading fast.
Finally...
Her consciousness slipped into darkness, and she tumbled into the gaping fissure beside her.
"..."
Feng Ye looked on in surprise as Terumi Mei collapsed.
From the forehead protector she wore, it was clear she was a ninja from Kirigakure, which meant he had landed somewhere within the borders of the Water Country.
The fastest way back from the moon, of course, was to simply let the moon come to you—by riding a meteorite.
While his senjutsu chakra and resilient body could easily withstand the searing heat generated by the friction of re-entry into the atmosphere, Feng Ye had no desire to experience that particular sensation, akin to a full-body version of Peacock's fire, which he imagined wouldn't be very pleasant.
So, he had used doton jutsu to attach a piece of the moon to a meteorite and rode it down, free-falling back to the ninja world.
"A ninja from Kirigakure... She seems vaguely familiar."
Feng Ye pondered as he stepped out of the crater and walked over to the fissure, where he released a surge of chakra from within, creating a massive chakra claw that dug into the crack and pulled out the unconscious Terumi Mei.
Looking at the mud-covered, tattered, and injured girl lying before him, her clothes in ruins and her body bearing the marks of many wounds, Feng Ye cocked his head, studying her closely for a long moment before finally recognizing her.
"The Fifth Mizukage?"
"Terumi Mei?"
Feng Ye extended a tendril of chakra into Terumi Mei's body. Sensing the presence of three distinct chakra natures within her, and witnessing how these three natures blended to form two unique blended powers, he was certain.
Two kekkei genkai.
Given her age and appearance, it could only be Terumi Mei.
"What a pity."
Having confirmed her identity, Feng Ye couldn't help but comment on her unfortunate state.
She must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, right under the path of his falling meteorite.
Speaking of Kirigakure, it seemed to be the unluckiest village in the ninja world lately. The Third Mizukage had been controlled by Uchiha Madara, the Fourth Mizukage by Uchiha Obito, and now the Fifth Mizukage had nearly been crushed by his returning meteorite before even officially taking up the role.
They had also lost control of the Three-Tails, and the entire Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist had been wiped out, with six of their seven blades lost as well.
"Hmm... It might be worth paying Kirigakure a visit. Who knows, Obito and Nagato could be hiding there, and I might just be able to capture Nagato and take the Rinnegan for myself."
Feng Ye contemplated his next move.
He decided to make his way to Kirigakure.
Since the village was already in such a sorry state, he might as well add to the chaos. And if he happened to capture Nagato, he could consume the power of the Rinnegan, not only instantly evolving his Rinne Sharingan but perhaps even transcending to an even higher level of power.
Having taken care of that matter, Feng Ye turned his attention back to Terumi Mei. Sensing her vitality waning and her chakra gradually fading, he paused for a moment before reaching out and placing his hand on her chest.
...
Moments later, Terumi Mei slowly regained consciousness. Her eyes darted around her surroundings, and upon realizing she was still in the outskirts of the village, her expression turned anxious.
She instinctively tugged at her clothes, checking for any signs of tampering, and breathed a sigh of relief as she detected no unusual changes to her body and felt that her injuries had largely healed.
Then, her gaze landed on Feng Ye, who was sitting by a small river nearby, tending to a campfire and roasting a few fish.
"That guy is..."
The sight of Feng Ye instantly clarified her muddled memories, bringing to mind the image of him emerging from the shattered meteorite.
Her first reaction was that he had saved her.
The second was that he hadn't taken advantage of her while she was unconscious.
These two realizations filled her with a tumult of emotions, even a twinge of regret that he hadn't done anything more while she was out cold.
Of course,
The underlying reason for such thoughts wasn't solely these two factors.
Had it been someone less attractive, she might not have felt this regret, and if they were unattractive enough, she might've even felt relieved that nothing had happened.
However,
As an elite jonin of Kirigakure, Terumi Mei didn't dwell on these chaotic thoughts for long. Her memories and thoughts quickly fell into place, and she began to ponder Feng Ye's identity.
In the instant she considered his identity, her eyes widened slightly, finding it hard to believe. But in the next moment, she snapped back to reality and leaped to her feet, brandishing a kunai as she faced Feng Ye.
"You... You're from Konoha..."
"I suggest you refrain from doing anything irrational," Feng Ye said without moving from his spot by the river or turning around. He continued roasting the fish, his tone indifferent as he said, "If you've already guessed who I am, then you should be aware of your current situation."
"... "
Feng Ye's words confirmed Terumi Mei's suspicions.
The silver-haired figure before her was none other than—
The Fifth Hokage of Konohagakure!
Sensing that her chakra was less than a tenth of its usual level and that her injuries had only partially healed, leaving her with lingering pain, Terumi Mei became keenly aware of her predicament. Slowly, she lowered the kunai.
Even at her peak condition, escaping from someone of Feng Ye's caliber would be a slim chance, and in her current state, it was simply impossible.
As an exceptionally talented ninja, she didn't indulge in overconfidence or wishful thinking.
She was a captive now.
And there was no way she could defy him.
Lowering the kunai, Terumi Mei looked at Feng Ye with a mixture of confusion and curiosity. "How did you end up here?"
Feng Ye turned to glance at her and replied, "I just happened to land here. In a sense, you're quite unlucky today."
