Chapter 230: You're an Owl Too!
Chapter 230: You're an Owl Too!
Ivan now couldn’t understand Owl Language, but as long as he transformed into his Animagus form, he could communicate freely with Maca.
He could soon learn from Maca who had stolen the Horcrux, and then retrieve and destroy it!
The Horcrux had only been missing for a few hours, so Tom probably hadn’t had time to do anything yet.
With this in mind, Ivan held Maca and ran out of the room, intending to find a secluded place to transform and ask her what had happened.
Harry and Ron, left behind in the dormitory, looked at each other in confusion, unsure what Ivan was up to—did he really intend to ask the Owl?
Meanwhile, Ivan brought Maca into the training room of the Room of Requirement.
Suddenly in a new environment, Maca was very excited, flapping her wings and flying around the training room. When she returned, she was startled to see Ivan’s body rapidly shrinking.
But soon, Maca froze, her round eyes wide as she watched Ivan transform from a human into an Owl.
Ivan, after getting used to his new body, flapped his wings and flew over to Maca, intending to ask what had happened in the dormitory.
“Hoot~ (You’re an Owl too?!)” Ivan hadn’t even gotten a chance to ask when Maca cooed in a dazed manner and nuzzled his cheek with her beak.
Hearing this, Ivan’s face darkened, and he almost fell from the air.
He had only temporarily transformed into an Owl.
“Cut it out!” Ivan flapped his wings to swat Maca, then got to the point. “Maca, what happened in the dormitory just now?”
Maca didn’t disappoint Ivan. Despite her limited expression, she managed to convey the information in broken sentences.
Not long after he left, a strange, ugly creature about the height of a table suddenly appeared in the dormitory.
The creature then began rummaging around, searching for something and making a mess of the place.
Maca, naturally, couldn’t tolerate this, so she released a few "companions" from their cages to fight the intruder.
However, those "companions" weren’t very effective and couldn’t drive the intruder away. In the end, the intruder took something from Ivan’s luggage and disappeared.
“A creature as tall as a table, ugly, and can suddenly appear and disappear? Dobby?” Ivan muttered to himself. The only one who fit this description was Dobby.
But why? How could Dobby be bold enough to steal the Horcrux?
In the original timeline, Dobby had never attempted to steal the Horcrux from Ginny. As a House-Elf, Dobby was unlikely to directly sabotage Lucius Malfoy’s plans.
This was the reason Ivan hadn’t thought of Dobby before.
While Ivan was pondering, he felt something brush against his cheek and turned to see Maca leaning closer to him.
“Hoot~” Maca emitted a series of meaningless sounds.
“Wait, what are you trying to do?” Ivan sensed something was off. He suddenly remembered that Maca was a female Owl.
Ivan quickly transformed back to his human form.
Maca blinked her eyes in confusion, not understanding why Ivan had suddenly changed back.
Ivan looked at the dazed Owl in front of him, feeling quite helpless. It seemed he should avoid transforming in front of Maca in the future.
After learning that the Horcrux thief was Dobby, Ivan was deep in thought on the way back to the dormitory, pondering how to catch the little guy.
In terms of strength, Dobby was no weaker than an average adult wizard, making him a tough opponent.
More importantly, this House-Elf was unpredictable in his movements and could use Apparition freely within Hogwarts. It was hard enough to find him, let alone catch him!
Even so, Ivan was not without options. His Animagus form allowed him to communicate with all the Owls in the school, and in a sense, these "kin" served as his eyes and ears.
Additionally, Ivan knew a crucial piece of information that he could use to his advantage.
That was Dobby's intense concern and care for Harry. With the right setup, he could lure Dobby into a trap.
The only question was whether Harry would agree.
When Ivan returned to the dormitory, Harry and Ron had already tidied up the mess, even catching the runaway Owls and putting them back in their cages.
"Harry, Ron, thanks a lot!" Ivan said, feeling a bit embarrassed. He had left in a hurry and forgotten to help clean up.
Harry and Ron shook their heads, indicating it was no big deal.
"By the way, Ivan, did you figure out who messed up our dorm?" Ron asked curiously.
"It's a creature about the size of a table, very ugly and strange. I think it's a House-Elf." Ivan nodded.
Harry’s face changed, and he exclaimed, "It's Dobby!"
"What? Which Dobby? Is it the one who hit you with a Bludger last time?" Ron was initially puzzled but quickly caught on.
After the Quidditch match, Harry had told him that it was Lucius Malfoy's House-Elf, Dobby, who had done it. Even the incident at the start of the term, when they missed the train and almost got expelled, was also due to this House-Elf.
If not for Dobby, Harry wouldn't have received his mother's Howler in front of everyone, causing him to lose face that morning.
"That damn little creep!" Ron was so angry he wanted to hang Dobby and beat him.
But then, Ron asked curiously, "Did you really get the information from your Owl?"
When he saw Ivan rushing out with his Owl, saying he needed to ask it something, he thought Ivan might have gone crazy.
"You know, Maca is usually quite smart", Ivan shrugged, not offering further explanation.
Ron wanted to point out that he was actually curious about how Ivan communicated with an Owl.
"In any case, I have an idea to lure Dobby out, but it might require some cooperation from you, Harry." Ivan turned to look at Harry.
Harry was momentarily stunned, recalling Dobby's secret conversation with him in the hospital wing. After Ivan called his name a few times, Harry finally snapped out of it.
Ivan had to repeat what he had just said, and Harry then exclaimed with surprise, "You have a way to catch Dobby?"
"That's great!" Ron was equally excited.
"Yes, but Harry, you might have to make a small sacrifice. This plan does carry a bit of risk!" Ivan looked at Harry, giving him a heads-up.
