Chapter 230: Meteor [37]
Chapter 230: Meteor [37]
In the midst of a forest, five ninjas without village headbands were traveling together atop the treetops.
"We must be close to the port by now," one of them said, looking ahead.
The leader of the group, holding a map of the Land of Frost, checked their position and replied, "We should be able to see it soon if we continue in this direction for a bit longer."
"I can't believe how wealthy this country is... We've only raided a few towns, and we've already gathered more money than we would in a decade's worth of regular missions. Hahaha."
One of them, feeling the scrolls in his pocket, smiled.
They were ninjas from a small ninja village and rarely received any missions. Moreover, their village had completely fallen apart during the Third Great Ninja War.
Their original plan was to plunder a merchant ship, but they had happened to hear about the Land of Frost, so they decided to come here for a quick profit before returning home by ship. No one would be able to trace them.
"This time, we'll be able to live comfortably for a few years."
The last ninja in line, with a smoking pipe in his mouth, grinned widely.
The group was making their way to their destination at a leisurely pace.
Just then, the ninja holding the map suddenly changed his expression and exclaimed, "Watch out! There's a ninja!"
Whoosh!
Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, a figure appeared behind them. The figure performed a series of hand seals, causing the nearby frost to melt rapidly and form into a rushing stream.
"Water Style: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"
Whoosh!!!
A water dragon, formed from the rushing stream, roared towards them. In an instant, it engulfed the last ninja, who had no time to react, and slammed him into the trees up ahead.
The remaining four ninjas wore looks of horror.
"It's the Mist Ninjas!"
"Run!"
Coming from a small ninja village themselves, they instinctively feared the mighty Five Great Ninja Villages, one of which was the Village of the Hidden Mist. Without hesitation, they tried to flee.
However, just then, a figure appeared in front of them, seemingly out of thin air.
"Water Style: Water Dragon Bullet!"
Mei Terumi, with an expressionless face, performed a series of hand seals. She then opened her mouth, and a water dragon surged forth, engulfing the nearest ninja and crashing him into the ground.
The remaining three ninjas turned pale as they witnessed this terrifying display.
"Damn it..."
"We're surrounded..."
Looking at the gathered Mist Ninjas surrounding them, the three ninjas wore expressions of sheer terror.
The Mist Ninjas who had assembled also revealed cruel smiles.
One of them drew a short sword and said with a wicked grin, "Mei Terumi, don't waste your ninjutsu on them. It's a waste... Killing is so much more satisfying with a blade."
"Hey, leave one for me, you bastard."
Another Mist Ninja drew a kunai and grinned menacingly.
Seeing this, Mei Terumi shook her head slightly and lowered her hands, which had been in the middle of performing hand seals.
Unlike most Mist Ninjas, Mei Terumi had survived the cruel and bloody world of her village, but she had no interest in killing, especially in torturous ways. However, she wouldn't stop the others from doing so.
Seeing the surrounding Mist Ninjas with their malicious smiles, the three ninjas from the small ninja village turned pale. Their bodies trembled, but one of them gritted his teeth and brought his hands together in front of him, attempting to form hand seals.
"We can't escape. Let's take them on!"
"We have no choice but to fight!"
The other two also grit their teeth in determination.
The three approaching Mist Ninjas didn't attack immediately. Instead, they sneered, "Try to put up a decent fight, or this will be boring."
These three ninjas from the small ninja village were pitifully weak in their perception; at most, they seemed to be at the level of genin. They were incredibly weak.
Whoosh! Whoosh!!
Two Mist Ninjas quickly closed in.
With a simple cross of their blades, they slashed the necks of two of the small ninja village ninjas, causing blood to spray out in an instant.
"Damn it..."
The last ninja, witnessing the gruesome scene, had fear in his eyes. His hands trembled as he lifted them, struggling even to form hand seals.
Seeing the other ninja's panicked attempts, the last Mist Ninja grinned. Instead of attacking immediately, he leaned against the nearby tree trunk and tapped his forehead protector with the kunai in his hand.
Chapter 230: Meteor [37] (Part 2)
The ninja from the small village managed to form the necessary hand seals, but as he moved his hands forward to release a jutsu, nothing happened. Not even a slight breeze stirred.
One of the nearby Mist Ninjas witnessed this and burst into laughter. "Hahahaha..."
"I was going to give you a chance, but it looks like you can't even perform a jutsu properly anymore. Oh well, time to finish this!" he said, gripping his kunai.
But just as he was about to rush forward, his movement suddenly froze.
The other Mist Ninjas also stopped in their tracks, all of them looking up at the sky, including Mei Terumi.
"Hey, come on... You've got to be kidding me?"
"How is this possible...?"
The eyes of all the Mist Ninjas widened in disbelief, and cold sweat broke out on their foreheads.
In the sky above, a massive meteor enveloped in scorching flames was plummeting straight toward them. Even before it hit the ground, it seemed to turn the entire sky into a blazing red, carrying with it a force that threatened to destroy everything in its path!
"Is this guy's jutsu for real?!
What the hell?!?"
"Is this... genjutsu?" someone exclaimed in disbelief.
Mei Terumi, her brow furrowed, stared at the rapidly falling meteor. Then, she snapped out of her daze and quickly fled, shouting, "This isn't genjutsu! Run for your lives!!!"
Mei Terumi's reaction finally snapped the other Mist Ninjas out of their stupor, and they all began to run in different directions, but the meteor was getting closer by the second.
Enveloped in crimson flames, the meteor crashed down with a deafening boom! The impact caused the ground to cave in, and a massive mushroom cloud rose into the sky.
The terrifying shockwave spread outward, engulfing all the fleeing Mist Ninjas, including Mei Terumi, in an instant. Nearby trees were reduced to splinters.
Time seemed to stand still, and then...
Mei Terumi emerged from the wreckage, looking disheveled. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, and her body staggered as she braced herself against a large, upturned rock to remain standing.
"What the..."
She surveyed the devastation around her. As far as she could see, the impact of the meteor had leveled everything. Her lips twitched at the sight.
This would certainly be an unusual entry in the mission records—probably the first time in the history of the Mist Ninja Village that a meteor strike had interrupted a mission.
"Cough... cough, cough..." Mei Terumi coughed violently, expelling more blood. She could feel that her entire body had sustained serious injuries.
In her current state, she wouldn't be able to move far, and she had no way to treat such severe internal wounds.
"If I don't get help, I'll die here..."
"I haven't even had the chance to fall in love with a man who captures my heart. I absolutely... refuse... to die here..."
As she stood there, leaning against the rock and contemplating her survival, her eyes suddenly widened in surprise as she looked toward the bottom of the meteor crater not far away.
Crack! Crack!!!
The meteor at the bottom of the crater was fissuring, and then it shattered completely. From the center of the broken meteor, a figure emerged.
"Back already..."
"That was quick."
Feng Ye raised his arm and stretched, then seemed to sense something. He cocked his head to the side, looking in the direction of Mei Terumi.
Their gazes locked.
Mei Terumi's mind went blank.
