Chapter 228: The Six Paths Staff
Chapter 228: The Six Paths Staff
【You have gifted your disciple with a finely crafted shuriken made by your own hands, and your disciple is extremely grateful. As a reward, you receive a Critical Hit, and your reward is—the Six Paths Staff】
Mu Yue was somewhat surprised by this reward. It wasn't a skill but a physical item.
He didn't have much experience with long-handled weapons, but Mu Yue figured that as long as the weapon was sturdy and he had the strength, it shouldn't be a problem to use it.
He felt that this weapon should be quite something. After all, Obito's emotions had been running high just now, and if it hadn't been for the earlier climax, it would have been easy to trigger a perfect-grade reward today.
"Make a wish and blow out the candles," Mu Yue said with a smile as he patted Obito's head.
"Okay!" Obito nodded, secretly wiping away the mist from his eyes, and walked up to the cake.
Obito pressed his hands together and closed his eyes, whispering, "If my wish really comes true, then I wish for ten wishes to come true."
"My first wish is for this happy life to continue until the end of my life. My second wish is for Grandma to be healthy and live a long life. My third wish is to become the person that Rin admires, and my fourth wish..."
As Obito thought about whether his tenth wish should be for ten or a hundred more wishes, he realized he had been wishing for quite some time.
"So my tenth wish is for all the previous wishes to come true!" Obito finished his silent monologue and opened his eyes with a smile.
"I'm done wishing. Let's eat the cake now," Obito said cheerfully after opening his eyes.
"It seems like you put a lot of thought into your wish, Obito. You must have thought about it for a long time," Nohara Rin said softly with a smile.
"Hehe, not really," Obito scratched his head sheepishly. He hadn't been thinking but rather wishing the whole time.
"Obito really has a reliable teacher and a great group of friends," Obito's grandmother said, smiling warmly as she watched the friendly interaction between them. She had raised Obito single-handedly, and she had always been worried about his growth. She didn't expect him to become an exceptional or famous ninja; she only hoped that he would grow up happy and healthy and that she could hold her great-grandchild before she passed away.
Because Obito's grandmother was present, the birthday gathering dispersed early to avoid disturbing the elderly woman's rest.
After the party, Mu Yue went into the forest alone to test out the quality of his new weapon.
With a thought, a black staff appeared in Mu Yue's hand. This physical item, a reward from the system, could be retrieved and used at will from the system space.
Mu Yue examined the so-called Six Paths Staff.
The staff was rather plain, just a black rod with different designs on either end—a moon on one side and a sun on the other.
Mu Yue first tested the hardness of the Six Paths Staff. He focused his breath and, in the state of full concentration of the Rock Breath, unleashed his power in the form of a Finger Gun toward the staff.
Boom!
The ground next to the Six Paths Staff cracked, but the staff itself remained untouched, no different from when Mu Yue had first taken it out.
Seeing that the Six Paths Staff was unscathed, Mu Yue increased his strength. He opened the third gate of the Eight Inner Gates and activated the Rock Breath's markings.
In fact, the aura around Mu Yue had become extremely terrifying, and the airflow caused by his aura made the leaves rustle violently.
"Armed Finger Gun!" Finally, Mu Yue infused his technique with Armed Color, his body turning pitch-black as he pointed at the Six Paths Staff.
BOOM!!!
An explosion rang out, and the ground within several dozen meters of Mu Yue collapsed, sending clouds of dust into the air. Even the large trees nearby were toppled by the force of the attack.
After delivering the strike, Mu Yue quickly deactivated the Eight Inner Gates and the marking mode, using Wind Release to blow away the dusty haze.
As the dust cleared, the pure black Six Paths Staff came into view, still completely undamaged. Not even a white mark had been left by Mu Yue's previous strike.
Mu Yue was very satisfied with the hardness of the Six Paths Staff.
Although the previous strike hadn't been his maximum strength, he had used quite a bit of power. The aftermath of the strike was enough to destroy several dozen meters of the ground, showing just how powerful that finger gun had been. And yet, not a single mark had been left on the Six Paths Staff, which spoke volumes about its hardness.
Mu Yue considered trying to use the markings of the Lightning Breath, along with Armed Color at the cost of 35,000 chakra, to see if he could leave a mark on the Six Paths Staff. But after thinking about it, he decided against it. Using that much chakra made him feel insecure, and the commotion it would cause would be too much.
The pits created by the Six Paths Staff with chakra were significantly larger than without, and the more chakra he injected, the more destructive it became. Mu Yue could only conclude that it was a chakra-guzzler.
He proceeded to the next test. During his initial experimentation, he had inadvertently discovered a powerful trait of the staff when infused with chakra. To validate his hypothesis, Mu Yue created a shadow clone to assist in the test.
"Lightning Release: Pseudo Darkness!"
The shadow clone concentrated chakra in his throat and spat out an incredibly concentrated lightning spear at Mu Yue.
Pseudo Darkness had two attack modes: one focused on a single point for precise attacks when confident of a hit, and the other involved a wide-range sweep of lightning, sacrificing intensity for breadth.
The shadow clone, aiming for maximum power, naturally chose the concentrated lightning bolt.
Mu Yue, holding the staff in his right hand, twirled it casually before infusing it with a substantial amount of chakra and swiftly striking the incoming lightning attack.
The once-formidable lightning spear instantly lost its potency upon contact with the Six Paths Staff and dissipated without a trace.
Then, the shadow clone, having expended most of its chakra, attempted a strike with the Armed Color, only to have it broken by Mu Yue's chakra-infused staff, causing the clone to dissipate into white smoke.
"Could this Six Paths Staff be a transformation of the Sage Art: Seek Path technique?" Mu Yue mused, his expression thoughtful.
The defining trait of the Seek Path technique was its ability to ignore ninjutsu, and the system-rewarded staff seemed to share this trait, effortlessly shattering ninjutsu.
However, upon further reflection, Mu Yue identified a discrepancy. If it were indeed the Seek Path technique, the shadow clone should have vanished upon contact, rather than requiring the additional step of chakra infusion for the effect to manifest.
To test his theory, Mu Yue intentionally released another shadow clone and touched it with the staff. Nothing happened. Without the infusion of chakra, the Six Paths Staff was just an extraordinarily hard stick, devoid of any special abilities.
Mu Yue soon dismissed his concerns about its origin. Whether or not it was a transformation of the Seek Path technique was immaterial; what mattered was that the staff was exceptionally sturdy and powerful, surpassing even the high-purity chakra blade.
The chakra blade's primary function was to extend the blade's reach, while the Six Paths Staff, when infused with chakra, could dissipate ninjutsu entirely.
In Mu Yue's opinion, the staff's only drawback was its distinctive design, lacking subtlety.
This staff was identical to the one depicted in the ancient paintings of the Sage of the Six Paths. If he were to use it in battle and display its extraordinary power, rumors of the Sage's reincarnation might start circulating.
Mu Yue returned the Six Paths Staff to his system space. It was indeed a formidable weapon, promising for the future, but presently challenging to utilize effectively.
His strength had already reached a considerable level, allowing him to defeat most ninjas without the need for weapons. For the remaining few, aside from ninjas like the Third Raikage, renowned for their lightning-style ninjutsu and taijutsu, his innate abilities were sufficient.
It was more prudent to reserve chakra for emergencies than to expend it on weapon enhancement, especially in the ninja world, where any means to achieve victory was considered fair.
After the test, Mu Yue used Earth Release to level the disturbed earth but left the fallen trees as they were. He had yet to master Wood Release, but fortunately, this forest was vast, and the trees he had damaged were but a fraction of its total.
