Chapter 228: The Method of Qi Gathering
"Dad, what did you say?" Fang Rou turned to her father, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Da Shi and Zhao Qianlin, too, looked over with puzzled expressions.
"I said, Chen Laodaifu and Lu Xiao Langjun aren't actually heading to Yun Zhou for any urgent mission. They're deliberately revealing themselves—intentionally drawing Liu Yun Zong's people away, so they won't come after us and terrorize the townspeople of Qingfeng Town again," Fang Tao explained.
"If that's true, then Mr. Lu is in real danger!" Fang Rou's face turned as pale as a sheet.
Fang Tao's expression darkened as well. "I should've realized it sooner. I should've stopped them!"
"Master," Da Shi said urgently, "Chen Laodaifu hasn't gone far yet. What if we go after them and intercept them?"
He couldn't stand by and watch his benefactor walk into such peril.
"It's pointless," Fang Tao shook his head. "Once Chen Laodaifu has made up his mind, no one can change it. Look at Lu Qing—would he be the kind to back down from a decision once made?"
Fang Rou and the others fell silent, remembering the cold, decisive manner in which Lu Qing had dealt with enemies earlier.
A warrior of Lu Qing's caliber, whose will was forged in fire and steel, was far beyond ordinary men. Once he set his course, it would not be swayed by mere words.
"But Father... are we just going to let Mr. Lu walk into Yunzhou like this?" Fang Rou protested, her voice laced with frustration.
"There's nothing else we can do," Fang Tao sighed. "Chen Laodaifu clearly doesn't want Qingfeng Town to suffer another disaster. This is an act of great righteousness. Even if we caught up with them, what could we possibly say to stop them?"
The group fell into silence, their eyes fixed on the distant road where Lu Qing and the others had disappeared. Their gazes were heavy with a mix of awe, shame, and deep worry.
Unaware that Fang Tao had already guessed their true purpose, Lu Qing and the others pressed on, following the map Fang Tao had given them toward Yun Zhou.
By evening, they stopped to rest and cook in a secluded valley. As the fire crackled and the scent of food filled the air, Lu Qing approached Old Doctor.
"Master, I have something I wish to discuss with you," Lu Qing said.
Old Doctor nodded, and the two walked toward the far end of the valley, away from the others.
Once they were far enough, Old Doctor asked, "A Qing, what is it?"
Lu Qing said, "Master, the world has changed. You must have felt it too—there’s a strange, indescribable Essence energy now permeating the air, hasn't it?"
"Yes," Old Doctor replied. "That Essence is lively, vibrant, pulsing with life. It feels even more extraordinary than the Heavenly and Earthly Qi. I can sense that if we could absorb and refine it, it would be immensely beneficial to our cultivation. But every time I try to capture it, it slips through my fingers."
"If I’m not mistaken," Lu Qing said, "that’s because Qi cannot be taken in by force. To absorb and refine Qi, two prerequisites must be met."
"Two prerequisites? What kind of prerequisites?" Old Doctor asked, not surprised. He knew Lu Qing had inherited ancient secrets, knowledge of the old world far beyond his own.
"The first is reaching the Xian Tian Jing—your Qi Cavity must be open. The second is possessing a unique method of refining Qi. The ancient cultivators called it Shi Qi Fa, the Method of Consuming Qi."
"Shi Qi Fa?" Old Doctor’s eyes widened. "So that’s why—it takes a special cultivation technique to refine Qi. Of course. This Essence is too mysterious, too beneficial to the body. It wouldn’t be easily mastered."
"Master," Lu Qing continued, "I happen to possess such a technique. I don’t know if it suits you, but you’re welcome to study it and see if it helps."
"You know Shi Qi Fa?" Now Old Doctor was genuinely surprised.
"This method was one of the inheritances I found in the cave chamber where I discovered the Dipulse Spiritual Fluid. I never thought I’d need it in my lifetime. But now, with Qi awakening once more, it finally has a purpose."
"But if it’s your inheritance," Old Doctor hesitated, "is it right for you to pass it on to me?"
"Of course," Lu Qing said with a smile. "There’s no rule forbidding me from sharing it. And you’re not a stranger—you’re my Master. There’s no taboo here."
Even if there were, Lu Qing didn’t care. The truth was, the inheritance he was passing on wasn’t truly his own—it had come from the Lihuo Ding. The Lihuo Sect had been wiped out tens of thousands of years ago. Lu Qing was now its last living heir. To whom he passed down a combat technique? That was entirely his decision.
"Then, old man, I’ll boldly ask for your teachings," Old Doctor said, relieved.
With that settled, he prepared himself. He knew he’d never seen anything like this—something that could refine Qi itself.
"Master, please focus your mind, clear all distractions, and prepare to receive the technique," Lu Qing said, his voice suddenly solemn.
Old Doctor nodded, his expression growing serious. The two sat cross-legged on a large stone, facing each other.
"Master, forgive my impertinence," Lu Qing said, his tone gentle.
Once Old Doctor’s mind was fully calm, Lu Qing extended a single finger and lightly touched his Master’s forehead.
Though startled, Old Doctor didn’t flinch. With absolute trust in his disciple, he let the contact happen.
The moment his brow was touched, Old Doctor’s face twisted in shock. But before he could speak, he closed his eyes, surrendering completely to the flood of information now pouring into his mind.
Minutes passed. When the transmission ended, Lu Qing withdrew his finger.
Old Doctor opened his eyes, staring at Lu Qing in disbelief. "It’s like a sudden revelation… a spirit soul transmission. A Qing, your Spirit Soul Power has grown so strong?"
He couldn’t help but be stunned. From the contact, he realized that Lu Qing’s Spirit Soul Power was actually stronger than his own. The techniques the boy had demonstrated—those spiritual feats—were beyond Old Doctor’s current ability to perform.
And yet… his disciple hadn’t even broken through to Xian Tian Jing!
"My recent experiences have greatly enhanced my Spirit Soul Power," Lu Qing said with a light smile.
Old Doctor remained silent. He couldn’t even imagine what kind of experience could grant a Hou Tian Jing cultivator power rivaling that of a Xian Tian Jing master.
Was this the true terror of the Qi Yun Zhi Zi—the one destined by Qi?
For the first time, he began to believe the stories Wei Shanhai often spoke of—that his disciple was indeed the chosen one of Qi.
"Master," Lu Qing continued, "I’ve passed on the complete Lishui Tunsix Fa. Please study it and see what you can gain."
Old Doctor nodded, closed his eyes, and plunged into deep contemplation of the technique.
Watching his Master absorbed in cultivation, Lu Qing finally allowed his expression to soften. A faint weariness flickered across his face.
The transmission had seemed simple, but it was not easy. True Spirit Soul Transmission was a feat only masters at the peak of Xian Tian Jing could achieve. Only with his Shen Hun Fu Lu formed, his Honglu Guan at the second stage, and mastery over various Spirit Soul techniques could he manage it at all.
Even so, the effort had drained him. He’d only hidden it earlier, so as not to worry his Master.
Now that his Master was deep in meditation, the fatigue surged back.
But Lu Qing had the Soil Spirit Pearl.
Within his Brow Qi Cavity, the pearl spun slowly. Each rotation dissolved a little of his spiritual exhaustion.
After a few dozen breaths, the fatigue vanished completely.
Even more surprisingly, he sensed a subtle strengthening in his Spirit Soul Power—its resilience had increased.
"Hmm?" Lu Qing’s eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of thought crossing his mind.
But he quickly pushed it aside.
Because at that moment, he felt a sudden ripple in the surrounding space.
And the source of that ripple… was his Master.
