Chapter 228: Dock the Ship
Chapter 228: Dock the Ship
After failing to persuade Kuro, Klah retreated in confusion, sitting motionlessly on the Deck with a faintly pale figure. Nearby Navy personnel dared not disturb him, only hearing his muttered words as they passed by:
"Not strong enough, small goal."
It seemed Kuro's words had left him somewhat dazed.
"Why can't I even catch a single thing?" Kuro held the fishing rod, muttering under his breath, "Even a Sea King would do."
"The ship's moving. Of course there's no fish", Lida disgustedly said.
"Could you wipe the drool from your mouth before speaking? And don't eat the bait, Lida!" Kuro shot her a deadpan glance.
"I didn't!"
Lida quickly wiped her mouth, then solemnly declared, "I just thought the bait looked colorful. I was only looking, not eating it yet."
What's the difference between that and wanting to eat it?
"Haven't you just eaten?" Kuro sighed, shaking his head. "And as for your snacks, if they're not enough, just order the chef to make more. This chef was specially selected from Headquarters' cafeteria. Is the food not to your taste?"
"No, I just wanted to taste the bait's flavor. I've never eaten it before", Lida answered honestly.
"Where did you come from, a starving ghost?! Go, go, go! Don't bother me here. Eat anything but the bait!" Kuro rolled his eyes.
"Oh..."
Lida drooped her head and turned to leave.
"Wait, give me back the sword."
Lida instinctively tightened her grip on Autumn Water, causing Kuro to raise an eyebrow in confusion.
"Hey, Kuro", she said, her eyes darting. "You were planning to cultivate your body, right? Relying too much on the sword creates dependency. How about I keep it safe for you for now? Since your power resides in the blade, you can summon it anytime you need it."
"Huh? You want to be my flute-playing attendant, or rather, sword-carrying maiden? Fine, I should focus on body cultivation anyway. You can hold onto it for now."
Before the Summit War, he focused on developing his power, but now he felt he needed to cultivate his physical body. Especially after facing Kaido. That monster's overwhelming presence left a profound impression. While his body couldn't match Kaido's sheer might, perhaps his Haki could reach similar heights.
No matter what, this hardened Encasement pales in comparison to that advanced electrical posture. That's the highest level of Haki. Kaido's form, resembling a Super Saiyan, was something Kuro deeply envied. If he had that level of Haki, very few people could match him.
Suddenly, the fishing line tugged.
"Oh?"
Kuro yanked the rod upward. As water splashed, a glowing, massive fish leaped from the sea.
"A giant marlin! Perfect for sashimi as afternoon tea!" Kuro tossed the thrashing fish onto the Deck, grinning at his catch.
Whoosh!
A cannonball suddenly soared from the distance, striking the marlin dead-on.
Boom!
The fish erupted in flames, leaving a charred crater on the Deck. Nearby bait buckets shattered into splinters. Kuro stared at the smoldering remains, his eye twitching.
"Which bastard did this?!"
"Officer! Enemy attack! It's a Pirate Ship!"
From the crow's nest, a Navy crewman shouted.
"Do I need a reminder for that?! Besides pirates, who else dares fire cannonballs? Let's see which idiot destroyed hours of my hard-earned catch!" Kuro growled, snatching a telescope from a Lieutenant.
Through the lens, the distant black speck sharpened into focus—a ship, though oddly designed. The giant sail bore a crooked pirate flag, its postmodern style screaming chaotic freedom. A horned skull with a red nose stared back.
Kuro frowned. Who drew this suffocatingly bad art? Did the creator have zero self-awareness?
"Let me see! Let me see!" Lida bounced beside him, reaching for the telescope.
Kuro handed it over. After a glance, Lida nodded approvingly. "The design's quite nice."
Your taste matches the artist's?! Kuro twitched his lips, barking, "Dock the ship! Sink it!"
...
"Pirate Captain Foxy! Pirate Captain Foxy!"
On the Pirate Ship, an excited young man rushed forward. "I just fired a cannonball! It was thrilling!"
On the upper Deck, a man with split-tipped hair lounged back, a teal-haired female pirate massaging his shoulders.
"Hmm?" Foxy opened his eyes, glancing at the youth. "Good job, Kuro! This is your first step into pirate life! Keep going—I believe in you!"
"Yes, Captain Foxy!" The young man clenched his fist, eyes shining. "I'll become just like you someday!"
"Exactly!" Foxy nodded vigorously. "Believe in me, and you'll succeed!"
This Kuro joined recently. Foxy accepted him because the youth showed zero disgust at Foxy's pirate flag design—a touching display.
"That Luffy..."
Thinking of Luffy's grinning face, Foxy's teeth gritted. Ever since his humiliating defeat at Long Ring Long Land and having his flag stolen by Luffy, fellow pirates mocked his new banner. That shame made Foxy loathe Luffy deeply.
"But I won't change it! Failure is failure. I, Foxy, am brave enough to admit defeat. Next time we meet, I'll reclaim my flag!" Foxy stroked his hair, striking a dashing pose.
"Captain Foxy!"
"Go, Captain Foxy!"
"Long live!"
The crew cheered wildly.
"Stop squirming, Captain", the teal-haired woman cooed.
"Pupupupu..."
A monkey-like crew member covered his mouth. "Captain, Kuro's cannonball hit a ship."
"Just a ship? We're pirates!" Foxy curled his pinky and index finger dismissively.
"Pupupupu... But it's a Warship", the crewman giggled.
"A Warship?!" Foxy yelped.
Silence fell.
"A... Warship? Wow, I'm impressive", the pirate Kuro scratched his head, sheepish.
"What Are You Proud OF?!" The crew roared.
"Stay calm! It's just a Warship!" Foxy waved his arm, laughing maniacally. "Pupupupu! Men, pirates excel at escaping! Change course—we're escaping!"
"But Captain, that Warship's already approaching fast."
The crew pointed behind them. Through the sea mist, the massive Warship charged forward at full speed.
