Chapter 228: Coaxing and Temptation
Chapter 228: Coaxing and Temptation
Amaran was Bai Yuwei's Miaojiang attendant.
Hearing her master's words, she was at a loss, "Miss."
Bai Yuwei spoke coldly, "Didn't you hear me tell you to pack your bags? Is it that I can't make you listen to me?"
Amaran lowered her head, "Amaran dares not."
"Then go quickly!"
"Yes."
Amaran reluctantly went to pack her bags.
Bai Yuwei glared at Meng Qianqian, "I'm going back to Miaojiang today. Are you satisfied now?"
Meng Qianqian shook her head, "I didn't say I wanted to drive my little sister away."
Bai Yuwei spoke coldly, "You may not say it, but it's clear that's what you're thinking! I know that you dislike me and wish I would leave the Capital City and never appear before you again!"
Meng Qianqian said, "That's your own assumption."
Although she didn't particularly like Bai Yuwei, out of respect for the King of Miaojiang and Liu Qingyun, she treated Bai Yuwei as a spoiled relative.
Moreover, whenever Bai Yuwei caused a scene, neither the King of Miaojiang nor Liu Qingyun took sides, and she had no complaints about managing the children.
Bai Yuwei, feeling wronged and resentful, said, "You're just afraid to admit it! You only know how to please my aunt and grandfather and win their favor! You people from the Central Plains are all hypocrites!"
Meng Qianqian covered Bao Shu's ears, not wanting her to hear these inappropriate words.
Bao Shu widened her big, round eyes and blinked at Meng Qianqian.
Meng Qianqian said to Bai Yuwei, "If you really want to leave, I won't stop you, but you must inform the elders at home. Go and tell them yourself. If they agree, I'll let you go."
Bai Yuwei was taken aback and said harshly, "I'll tell them!"
She went to find the King of Miaojiang.
Unfortunately, the King of Miaojiang had gone to the palace to play chess with the Retired Emperor.
The chess game was secondary; the main reason was to visit his grandson. After spending time with the Retired Emperor, he could have lunch there and then pick up his grandson in the evening to return home together.
So, Bai Yuwei went to find Liu Qingyun.
Liu Qingyun was taking a nap and didn't want to see anyone.
"Didn't she just bring that woman into the palace? She's spoiling an outsider!"
Bai Yuwei didn't know that Liu Qingyun had gone to visit her sister in the palace; she thought Liu Qingyun was favoring Meng Qianqian, and this made her feel even more disappointed.
With a bellyful of grievances, she went to find Bai Qingchen.
No matter what, Bai Qingchen was her biological brother, and his love for her was genuine.
But to her surprise, Bai Qingchen wasn't there either.
"The Young Master is out," said a Miaojiang guard.
"Where did he go?" asked Bai Yuwei.
The Miaojiang guard replied, "I don't know."
Bai Yuwei stormed out of the courtyard in anger.
Meng Qianqian was sitting under a tree, teaching Bao Shu how to read a map.
Bao Shu was more attentive than Bai Yuwei; she recited everything she was taught and remembered it all.
"Where is my little sister going?" Meng Qianqian called out.
Bai Yuwei replied coldly, "To find my brother!"
Meng Qianqian took her finger out of Bao Shu's mouth, "You're not allowed to go."
Bai Yuwei was taken aback, "You... do you have the right to stop me?"
Meng Qianqian indeed had the authority to do so.
Not only the Governor's Mansion servants but also the Miaojiang guards refused to let Bai Yuwei leave.
Bai Yuwei, furious, returned to her own courtyard.
However, just before lunchtime, Amaran suddenly reported, "Miss is missing!"
Meng Qianqian frowned, "Where are the guards who were watching her?"
Amaran spoke softly, "They were taken down by Miss's Poison Toad."
Near the west gate of the Governor's Mansion, Bai Yuwei, dressed in a maid's attire, nimbly climbed over the wall and landed steadily on the ground.
She brushed off the dust from her body and said proudly, "You think you can keep me locked up? In your dreams!"
She took out a flying little toad from her purse and said, "Take me to find my brother."
The little toad naturally couldn't understand human speech, but this tracking toad's offspring would follow the scent of its mother, and the mother toad was on Bai Qingchen.
Bai Yuwei followed the tracking toad through the scorching summer heat, sweating profusely.
"The capital is too hot, unbearably hot..."
Having lived in the mountains for so long, she was almost roasted like a fish.
After some time, she turned into a bustling street filled with a mixed crowd, unlike any street she had ever seen in the capital.
The shops were dilapidated and old, and the peddlers were fierce and intimidating. For a moment, she doubted if this was even the capital.
The tracking toad flew into a small tavern.
Bai Yuwei pinched her nose and entered, looking at the drunkards slumped everywhere. She muttered, "Are you sure you're not mistaken? Why would my brother come to a place like this?"
Suddenly, a familiar figure flashed by not far away.
"My brother's guard!"
Bai Yuwei followed him upstairs.
Bai Qingchen's guard entered the room at the very end.
Bai Yuwei planned to give her brother a surprise, but she heard her brother's voice, "You lured me out on purpose, just to tell me this?"
Lured?
Bai Yuwei hesitated, then decided against pushing the door open. Instead, she listened through the crack in the door.
"Young Master Bai, we come with sincerity and genuinely wish to cooperate with you."
"I have no need to cooperate with anyone."
"Young Master Bai, you can't possibly think that you've secured the position of the Young Master of Miaojiang, can you? Since the King of Miaojiang entered the capital, you've seen how much he dotes on his grandson. Blood is thicker than water, and no matter how loyal you are to the King, if his grandson were to compete with you for Miaojiang, you'd have little chance of winning, right?"
"Young Master Bai, we're also here to stand up for you. These years, it's you who have been dutiful to the King and helped him govern Miaojiang. Are you really willing to let others take advantage of your efforts?"
The two of them took turns persuading Bai Qingchen.
Bai Qingchen said, "What do you want me to do? Kill Lu Yuan? Or kill my grandfather? If I kill Lu Yuan, there's still Lu Yuan's child, and my aunt can also give birth to more. Looking at it this way, killing my grandfather is the best solution. Once my grandfather dies, the fight for the King of Miaojiang's position will become public, and the entire Miaojiang will be plunged into chaos."
Bai Qingchen continued, "Your plan is well thought out, but I don't want the position of King of Miaojiang, nor will I give you the opportunity to divide Miaojiang. I will tell my grandfather about today's events truthfully, and please convey this to your master as well, so he can give up this idea."
Bai Yuwei frowned secretly.
So, they were here to win over her brother.
Her brother was so foolish!
Why should he give up the position of King of Miaojiang?
In terms of talent, diligence, or background, how is my brother inferior to Lu Yuan?
Just because Lu Yuan was lost at a young age and my grandfather feels guilty, does he have to compensate with the entire Miaojiang?
Lu Yuan himself is a grand minister. Besides being a lackey for others, what else can he do? What qualifications and abilities does he have to govern Miaojiang? If anyone should give way, it should be Lu Yuan making way for my brother!
She was about to push the door open.
Suddenly, a figure approached her silently from behind and knocked her unconscious with a palm strike.
The second watch had arrived early! Is today's chapter awesome?
