Chapter 228: A Reward for Snuffles
Chapter 228: A Reward for Snuffles
Kyle felt that things were taking an unexpected turn.
"Professor..." he chuckled awkwardly, "I thought the Erised Mirror didn't have a replay function... Isn't it just like a regular mirror?"
"The previous Erised Mirror was indeed had no such function," Dumbledore replied. "But I made a slight modification to it... Do you know about the Pensieve?"
Kyle nodded, "It's an alchemical item that allows one to view memories."
"That's right, it seems you have some knowledge of alchemy as well."
Dumbledore's tone became much lighter, and he even sounded a bit proud.
"I tried to create a magical connection between them, allowing the scenes displayed on the Erised Mirror to appear in the Pensieve as memories.
To be honest, it was much more troublesome than I imagined... But in the end, I succeeded."
"So, you can see everything that happened in the mirror?" Kyle asked dryly.
"Absolutely!" Dumbledore glanced at Kyle with a mischievous look, seeming pleased with his current expression.
"It's so strange to have Snuffles in the castle... And he easily solved the challenge I thought was foolproof."
"Then I won't disturb your rest any further. That Snuffles probably hasn't gone far, and I need to ask Newt if he knows it."
Dumbledore stood up and started walking towards the door.
"Wait, Professor..."
Kyle suddenly called out to him.
"What is it? Is there something else?"
"It's like this, if it's Snuffles... I just happen to have one."
Dumbledore turned around and saw Kyle holding a Snuffles the size of his palm.
He looked a bit surprised, "So, this Snuffles was with you..."
Kyle tugged at the corner of his mouth, choosing to selectively ignore that statement.
If Dumbledore didn't know, he should have gone to find Hagrid or Professor Kettleburn instead of going all the way to find Newt.
What did Snuffles and Newt have to do with each other in Hogwarts? This was clearly a threat!
"I just remembered, Professor," Kyle said. "I did let it out to play for a while, and it might have been then that it went to look at that mirror."
Snuffles stared at Kyle, seeming to understand something, and quickly covered its pocket with its hand.
But this was destined to be futile.
Under Kyle's skilled fingers, a pile of shiny objects soon fell out.
Christmas decorations, metal buckles, over a dozen Galleons, Sickles, and a bright red gem...
"It's really here," Kyle said in surprise. "Sorry, Professor, I didn't know..."
"It's fine, as long as we found it."
As Dumbledore picked up the Philosopher's Stone, Snuffles started to panic.
It struggled vigorously while wailing pitifully.
"It seems I took something from it..." Dumbledore's right hand clenched slightly in the air.
When he opened it again, several gems of various colors, each about the size of the Philosopher's Stone, appeared in his palm.
"How about I trade these with you?" Dumbledore extended his hand towards Snuffles and said with a smile, "As a reward for solving my challenge, I can give these to you."
Almost as soon as he opened his hand, Snuffles stopped making a fuss.
It looked at the gems, and tears of longing welled up in its eyes. It whimpered twice and reached out to grab them, but Kyle lifted it up again.
"It says it doesn't want these," Kyle said.
Professor Dumbledore paused, "It, don't?"
"Yes," Kyle nodded seriously, "You know, I can understand what Snuffles is saying... It wants a different reward."
Snuffles stared at him with round eyes, as if it couldn't believe what it had just heard. It began to struggle again, and its cries grew louder.
But Kyle acted as if he didn't notice, even covering Snuffles' eyes with his hand.
Professor Dumbledore's expression became peculiar, "So, what reward does it want..."
"It thinks its space is a bit small, and it wants you to help expand it."
Kyle picked up the trunk and said, "This is it. I... cough, it wants you to make the space inside as big as the Forbidden Forest during the break."
Professor Dumbledore was clearly already aware of Kyle's trunk, similar to Newt's, so there was no need for Kyle to hide it.
The unmistakable edition is available at 69 Book Bar! 6=Book_Bar First Edition.
At this, Professor Dumbledore's expression became even more peculiar. He looked at Kyle's serious demeanor and then at Snuffles, who was wriggling non-stop.
"Kyle, did it really say that?" He felt like laughing but managed to hold it in.
"Yes!" Kyle nodded firmly, "I can guarantee it with Potter's grades."
Snuffles had given up struggling by now, hanging limply in Kyle's hand like a soulless shell.
"Alright then, since I promised it."
Professor Dumbledore paused for a moment before saying, "But making it as big as the Forbidden Forest might be too much. You know, I'll be busy searching for a new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor during the break.
How about half the size of the Forbidden Forest... I think that should be enough for Snuffles."
"No problem, Professor."
Kyle smiled, "I'll thank you on Snuffles' behalf... Oh, Potter, when did you wake up?"
Harry, lying on the opposite bed, had woken up at some point. He sat up, staring at Kyle and Professor Dumbledore in bewilderment.
"I think I heard someone talking about grades... and then I woke up." Harry rubbed his face unconsciously and asked, "How many days have I slept? The exam results are out already!"
"Don't worry, you've only slept for a day, and the exam results aren't out yet."
Professor Dumbledore approached Harry with a smile, "If you recover quickly enough, you might even make it to tomorrow's Quidditch match."
"That's good..." Harry breathed a sigh of relief, then suddenly exclaimed, "Sir! The Philosopher's Stone, it fell into the flames, quickly..."
"Don't get excited, what you're saying is a bit outdated." Professor Dumbledore said, "The Philosopher's Stone is fine, look."
He took out the bright red stone and held it in front of Harry.
"Phew..." Harry patted his chest, "I didn't destroy the Philosopher's Stone, that's great, really great."
"No need to be so nervous, even if you did destroy it, it's not a big deal. We never intended to keep it anyway."
"What did you say?" Harry asked in confusion, "But your friend... Niccolme..."
"Oh, you know Nicco? I'm delighted to hear that."
In fact, he was genuinely pleased.
Compared to Kyle, Harry seemed much more normal and didn't give him as many "surprises."
This was the kind of conversation he preferred.
