Chapter 227: [Xifan's Soul Fragment ]
Chapter 227: [Xifan’s Soul Fragment ]
After Xifan’s fall, a massive amount of black mist erupted from his body, spreading uncontrollably in all directions.
Alyssa, along with three other Seventh-Rank powerhouses, simultaneously cast a sealing spell, ultimately imprisoning Xifan’s body and the black mist within a basketball-sized metal container. This prevented the spreading mist from causing secondary harm to the civilian areas below.
Once the sealing was complete, Alyssa stored the metal container in her spatial ring.
Then, she soared into the sky and addressed the entire city:
“Everyone, I am Alyssa Goldenflower, the princess of the empire.
A terrible disaster has struck our Forest City. Half a month ago, the Grand Sorcerer Xifan took control of my father, forged imperial edicts, and initiated a cruel ‘Madness Ritual’ in the city center. He forced countless residents into the ritual, driving them to madness and to attack each other.
In the past half-month, Xifan has caused the deaths of at least 200,000 people and the sacrifices of over a million interdimensional adventurers!
However, today, with the help of the Guardian Deity, I have personally slain Xifan! He will pay for his crimes.
From now on, you no longer need to fear being forcibly dragged into the Madness Ritual. I will lead you through this disaster, rebuild our home, and swear this by the honor of the Goldenflower family!”
Alyssa’s voice, amplified by her formidable magic, echoed throughout the entire city.
Hearing the princess’s words, many of the citizens felt as though they had seen a glimmer of hope in the darkness.
Especially those who had experienced the Madness Ritual, tears streamed uncontrollably down their faces.
The past half-month had been a nightmare for the residents of Forest City.
Many had been dragged into the ritual in a daze and met their untimely deaths. In just a short period, countless lives were lost. Those who survived the ritual were left with either permanent disabilities or severe psychological trauma.
Then, Forest City was hit by an unprecedented shockwave, destroying much of the city.
A month ago, Forest City was the empire’s second-largest city with a population of nearly 500,000. After these two catastrophes, the city’s population might have dropped to less than 100,000.
Eighty percent of the people had perished in the chaos.
The people struggled in this nightmare, not knowing when they would wake up.
Now, hearing Alyssa’s voice was like seeing a ray of sunlight in the darkest moment before dawn.
They suddenly felt that Forest City still had hope, and so did the empire!
Many of the citizens wept, their voices choked with emotion:
“Your Highness, it’s such a relief that you’re alive!”
“Thank you for killing Xifan and avenging those who have died!”
“Your Highness, I will follow you forever! I hope you can lead us to save our home.”
The players within the city continued to help the affected civilians. Seeing them sob uncontrollably, the players felt their own eyes well up with tears.
The players couldn’t help but think about the real world.
When the Skrulls invade on a large scale, many cities will likely suffer the same fate as Forest City, enduring great calamities.
They also thought about "that man." A man who, through his own strength, has secured two psychic springs for humanity. His territory has now advanced to the city level, and he is poised to become the first high-rank powerhouse among humans.
If Alyssa is the hope of the Forest City people, then that man is likely the hope of all humanity on Earth!
The players put down their work and looked in the direction where Su Yu was located.
After Alyssa finished her announcement, she slowly descended from the sky.
Sharan and the other three exchanged glances and bowed to Alyssa.
Roland, the master of Silver Pine Tower, respectfully said, "Great Princess, a fortnight ago, when Xivan's forces were overwhelming, we had no choice but to join his ranks."
"Enough," Alysa waved her hand, cutting him off. "Let bygones be bygones. In light of your cooperation today in stopping Xivan, I will not hold your past actions against you."
Alysa wanted to hold them accountable for their betrayal of her father, but now was not the time for retribution. She needed their support to defeat the rebels. Once the rebellion was quashed, she would settle accounts with them.
"Thank you, Princess," the three men visibly relaxed.
"However," Alysa's expression turned stern as she issued a stern warning, "if you dare to harbor any treacherous thoughts again, Xivan's fate will be yours. Do you understand?"
"Understood! Of course, we understand!" the three men quickly replied.
With Xivan's death and the mission completed, the Princess's guard, Keldron, was responsible for distributing rewards to the first five players who discovered Xivan.
Amid the envious gazes of the surrounding players, these five received rare pet eggs and epic gear, their faces beaming with joy.
Princess Alysa flew over to the area where the players had gathered.
She smiled at the five players and then landed beside Su Yu. "Counter, what reward do you want?"
As she spoke, the Princess handed Su Yu the "Best Sword in the Village."
Before Su Yu could respond, the surrounding players excitedly shouted, "Of course, the title of Duke!"
"Princess, Counter wants to become a Duke of the Empire!"
"Princess, Counter is so wealthy! If he becomes a Duke, your military funds will be secure for years to come!"
"Duke?" Alysa was taken aback by the players' cries.
Her cheeks flushed, and she quickly waved her hand. "No, a Duke can only be appointed after I come of age. It's not the right time yet."
Hearing the players mention his wealth, Su Yu remembered something—he had promised Kevin Plantagenet to hand over 16 million spirit coins earned at the Orlan City Colosseum to Alysa as military funds.
Now that Alysa had freed herself from Xivan's control, it was time to fulfill his promise.
Su Yu took out a black mana crystal card from his backpack, inputted 16 million, and handed it to Alysa. "Alysa, this is the military fund I promised to the Guardian. Please accept it."
"Thank you, Counter!" Alysa knew about the 16 million and accepted the money without hesitation.
"Ding, [Princess Alysa]'s Favor +1."
"Considering your 16 million, I'll reward you with something special!" The Princess's mood improved slightly, and she smiled.
"Ding, [Glory of the Plantagenet Empire (40/100)] completed. Reward: 26,000 experience points, [Fragment of Xivan's Soul] x1."
Alysa took out a metal container that sealed Xivan and, after a brief incantation, handed Su Yu a blackish-purple crystal.
