Chapter 227: Slytherin's Laboratory
Chapter 227: Slytherin's Laboratory
Seeing the Basilisk's eyes, as large as light bulbs, Ivan felt a chill run through his body.
Fortunately, there were no signs of petrification, and the bloodline magic, the Shadow of the Unicorn, remained unaffected.
This confirmed his earlier suspicions.
Even so, Ivan did not relax at all, as the enormous Basilisk had already slithered up to him, its cold breath making him feel nauseous.
The Basilisk opened its mouth filled with sharp teeth but did not attack. Instead, its eyes focused on the "Owls" chirping on the ground, hissing.
"Hisss~ (Hungry! Did you bring me food?)"
Before Ivan could reply, the Basilisk suddenly opened its mouth wide, tore the two "Owls" into pieces, and swallowed them whole.
Ivan, who had witnessed everything through his Patronus, couldn't help but twitch his lips. The Roosters he had prepared to deal with the Basilisk were now gone.
What slightly relieved Ivan was that the Basilisk had no intention of attacking him immediately.
This meant they could communicate.
With this in mind, Ivan followed the Basilisk's earlier hiss and spoke.
"Yes, that's the gift I brought for you."
"Do you know where Slytherin's laboratory is? It's the place your master used to visit frequently", Ivan added.
"Not enough! Hungry~" The Basilisk ignored Ivan's words, coiling its massive body around him, restlessly circling, its large eyes fixed on him, occasionally extending its tongue to test his scent.
Ivan became tense again.
At the same time, Ivan was frustrated. Why does this Basilisk act like a glutton? Is it always like this when it's summoned?
If so, what did Tom Riddle feed it during the multiple times he opened the Chamber of Secrets?
Ivan was worried that the Basilisk might attack him if it was too hungry. He recalled the information he had researched in the Restricted Section before coming to the Chamber of Secrets.
It stated that the Basilisk's diet was diverse, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects, but its favorite food was spiders.
Ivan had a sudden idea and spoke.
"Tell me where it is, and the next time I come, I'll take you to eat an Acromantula!"
"Acromantula?" The Basilisk hissed, muttering softly.
It didn't know what an Acromantula was, but from Ivan's expression, it seemed to be a large spider that could satisfy its appetite.
This special name also reminded the Basilisk of a tempting scent it had smelled in the castle the last time it awoke. It was certain that it was a delicious spider.
Unfortunately, not long after, the one who controlled it forced it back into hibernation.
Noticing the Basilisk's reaction, Ivan calmed himself and continued, "It's a very special spider, quite large, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! For now, you should take me to your master's laboratory!"
"Eat Acromantula!" The Basilisk hissed, weighing the options, and then suddenly turned and slithered back in the direction it had come from, seemingly heading back to its lair.
Ivan was puzzled by the Basilisk's sudden departure.
But he quickly thought of another possibility and hurriedly ran up, grabbing the Basilisk's tail, urging it to take him along.
The Basilisk also allowed Ivan to climb onto its back, sliding into the large mouth of the Slytherin statue and moving through the tunnel.
Ivan, clinging to the Basilisk's tail, followed it into the statue. The Shadow of the Unicorn surrounded him, illuminating the surroundings.
Before long, after passing through the tunnel, Ivan found himself in a large space. This must be the Basilisk's lair, which had not been tended to for a long time, giving off a musty smell.
The walls were covered with murals depicting all sorts of magical creatures, with the last one showing the Basilisk.
The real Basilisk, after bringing him in, coiled itself in a corner, revealing a door. The door was adorned with numerous mysterious runes, and in the center was a large snake-shaped emblem.
On either side of the door stood two stone guards, their swords crossed, blocking the way to the door.
Ivan immediately understood that this was the place he was looking for.
"Hail the great Founder—Salazar Slytherin!" Ivan tried to recite the "key" given to him by the system.
Rumble~
The two stone guards suddenly came to life, sheathing their weapons and opening the door. They then bowed down, as if welcoming their master.
Ivan couldn't help but scoff. Salazar Slytherin really enjoyed these elaborate rituals.
Stepping into the room, the surroundings suddenly brightened, with the ceiling filled with twinkling magical lights. It seemed some detection spell had been set to automatically activate when someone entered, and remarkably, it had not failed after more than a thousand years.
The Basilisk remained outside, not daring to enter, perhaps due to some command given by Slytherin in the past.
This allowed Ivan to finally open his eyes and cancel his Patronus, as the mismatch between his vision and body always gave him an odd feeling.
Thud~
As Ivan moved forward, he soon realized he had stepped on something. Stopping, he picked it up and found it to be several yellowed, wrinkled pages.
Although they looked like paper, they were made of some unknown material, feeling like licorice root when touched. Ivan had a vague sense of familiarity.
After reading the content, Ivan's face darkened.
"Tom, you are indeed a liar!" Ivan gritted his teeth in anger. After comparing the content, he was certain these were the missing pages of Origin of Bloodlines.
Tom had always misled him, claiming that Dumbledore had taken this away, and he had half-believed it at the time.
These missing pages, as Ivan had suspected, detailed the method of fusing bloodlines, which was the recipe for the Bloodline Fusion Potion the system had rewarded him last year.
"Indeed, my previous guess was correct."
Ivan was not surprised. After learning that Origin of Bloodlines was written by Salazar Slytherin, he had guessed that the reward given by the system was not created out of thin air but was something that already existed.
In addition, the missing pages also provided detailed information about the Chamber of Secrets and how to reach it.
Ivan pondered. It seemed that not everything Tom had told him was a lie.
Tom likely discovered clues left by Slytherin somewhere in the castle, found Origin of Bloodlines, and then followed the instructions to reach the Chamber of Secrets.
