Chapter 227: Investigation
Chapter 227: Investigation
As noon approached, Chen Chuan and his squad members returned to Yangzhi City.
However, due to the recent explosion within the city, the alert was still in effect, and patrol vehicles from the Patrol Bureau were everywhere, rigorously inspecting all passing vehicles.
Fortunately, Chen Chuan's group was escorted back by a Patrol Bureau vehicle, sparing them from unnecessary trouble.
It was almost lunchtime, so they decided to stop at a well-reviewed lamb restaurant in the south of the city for a meal before parting ways.
Upon returning to his dormitory, Chen Chuan changed out of his clothes, took a shower, and casually turned on the radio.
The news reported on a meeting of company representatives, with invited celebrities offering their insights. One side was optimistic, believing it would benefit Yangzhi City, while the other side was cautious, questioning the possibility of another Mo Lan Corporation incident. The two sides engaged in a heated debate, arguing back and forth.
However, most of the foreign company representatives who were sent had perished on the train, and even if some from Pollen Corporation survived, the conflict had already emerged, so their chances were slim.
There was no mention of the train hijacking incident, indicating that it was intentionally suppressed. Perhaps the Municipal Government Hall was not yet ready to release the information.
After listening for a while, Chen Chuan turned off the radio.
He took out the medication he had obtained during the national conscription and swallowed it, then sat down on the soft cushion to begin his daily Forge Breathing Method cultivation.
It had been about three months since August, and thanks to his consistent training and several battles against powerful enemies, his internal organs' mutated tissues had grown significantly.
The second limit was previously known as "Guard Vitality." He Xiaoxing informed him that the current focus was to transition from "guarding" to "living." In simpler terms, it meant having a second life.
According to the documentation, at this stage, even if a fighter's original internal organs were damaged, they could rely on an alternate set of organs to survive. The two sets of organs would alternate and repair each other. Instead of one set replacing the other, they would complement and strengthen each other, forming a symbiotic relationship.
This was also in preparation for the next stage, similar to the first limit. The more robust, resilient, and well-distributed the mutated tissues of the second limit were, the more they would aid the subsequent stage.
Based on his current self-assessment, he was still in the strengthening phase, with some distance to reach the envisioned complete and mature stage.
However, this progress was already quite rapid.
Considering he had only been learning martial arts for a little over a year, the mutated tissues could only grow so much, even with stimulation.
After all, he was not naturally born with exceptional talent. His progress to this point was due to his Second Self, which allowed him to ignore the harm caused by drugs and not worry about most excessive damage during practice.
While others could only endure high-intensity training for three to four hours a day, he could persist uninterruptedly, exerting himself many times more than ordinary people.
Currently, he had mastered the Fundamental Breathing Method to the extent that he could maintain it throughout the day, wherever he was.
This breathing method was truly foundational, and even the various breathing methods he had learned afterward, including the Forge Breathing Method, incorporated elements of it.
Of course, the Forge Breathing Method was more complex. If it were a large circle, its complexity and variations could completely encompass the former.
However, the stronger the foundation, the more it could support, and the effects of the Forge Breathing Method would be more pronounced. Even a slight improvement here was beneficial, especially since his goal was the theoretical limit, and he couldn't afford to neglect any aspect that could enhance his abilities.
This time, his cultivation continued until midnight. He first emptied his mind, entering a deep sleep, and after passing midnight, he woke up on his own and then recombined his Second Self to begin self-assessment.
This day, he continued his usual activities, but he didn't engage in any tasks that required the Second Self to endure damage. In the end, he concluded that this time, he had gained over two additional hours of recombination time, still falling short of the 24-hour recombination goal.
He had anticipated this because there weren't any particularly powerful opponents during this mission, and he attributed the slight improvement to the haunting tale and secret ritual.
However, he decided to let nature take its course.
The significant fluctuations in his mental and emotional state indicated encountering dangerous and unpredictable opponents. Even if he followed a disciplined routine, he should be able to accumulate enough time without taking unnecessary risks. Moreover, he wouldn't lack opponents once he reached Central City.
For the next ten days or so, he devoted himself entirely to martial arts training, and before he knew it, mid-November had arrived.
On this day, Gao Ming called him. "Cousin, I've taken care of the joint departmental commission for you. The commission fee will be transferred to your account by the end of this month."
Chen Chuan replied, "Thank you, Gao Ming."
Gao Ming continued, "There's one more thing. Regarding the case from three years ago, where Shen Zheng, a student at Wu Yi Academy, was murdered, there's been a specific outcome."
Hearing this, Chen Chuan knew that the person in question must be Zhao Qian, as mentioned by Wei Jun.
In fact, this person was the primary executor of the incident. He was a classmate of Shen Zheng's from the same semester, while Wei Jun was from the following semester.
This person had already entered Central City three years ago, so even with the collapse of Mo Lan Corporation, they couldn't be brought to justice. The Yangzhi City Patrol Bureau couldn't arrest someone in Central City.
Gao Ming reminded Chen Chuan's cousin, "Be careful with this person. The Zhao family in Yangzhi City has been uprooted, and their assets have been confiscated. But the situation in Central City is different. I've looked into it, and not only do they have business dealings with Mo Lan Corporation, but they also have deep connections with other major companies."
"As the direct instigator and participant of this incident, if you go to Central City, you must be cautious of this person," Gao Ming warned.
Chen Chuan asked, "Is there no way to legally deal with him?"
Gao Ming explained, "Zhao Qian's company has an entire team of advocates, and they have connections with the upper echelons in Central City. Even with sufficient evidence, he can mobilize social and administrative resources to exonerate himself. Even if he fails, due to the unique nature of Central City, it's unlikely that any sentence will be carried out, rendering it as good as a piece of scrap paper."
Chen Chuan inquired, "In order to ensure the sentence is executed, we would need to possess more social resources and greater power than them, right?"
"Yes," Gao Ming confirmed, "and it also depends on whether the entity with such power has the intention to confront them. Usually, organizations with such power wouldn't waste their energy on such 'trivial' matters unless there's a bigger issue at stake, but..."
He paused before continuing, "As far as I know, in Central City, there are alternative ways to resolve this."
Chen Chuan nodded, understanding what he meant.
Since legal means might not yield results, they would have to resort to unofficial methods—using money or certain conditions to hire people or organizations to achieve their goals.
Gao Ming agreed, "Yes, exactly what you're thinking, cousin. Where power is not centralized, gaps emerge, and various entities and organizations fill those gaps. Fortunately, in Central City, even ordinary people can hire help with money to eliminate some troubles, as long as they have enough funds and the target isn't a prominent figure."
Chen Chuan acknowledged this with a hum. If he went to Central City, he would need to be cautious of Zhao Qian, who had the backing of a company and considerable influence.
"There's another matter," Gao Ming added. "Currently, within the country of Dashun, there are three types of vehicles with blue paint jobs. One is the 'Blue Charm,' a popular choice among female company employees; the 'Celestial Realm' series of luxury cars produced by the Zhinan Company; and the more common 'Qinghu' series of sedans. Apart from the Celestial Realm series being rare, the other two are quite common. I've already sent you the detailed information."
"Thank you, Gao Ming," Chen Chuan expressed his gratitude.
After hanging up the phone, he glanced at the sky outside. He remembered that before his previous self died, he had seen a glimpse of a vehicle in a shade of blue, but the dim light might have distorted the color. For now, he would treat this as a clue and investigate further.
At that moment, in the headquarters of the Fenixin Society, the senior members of the society gathered to examine the details of Shen Zheng's case, as presented by the Patrol Bureau.
"So, this is how Senior Shen met his end..." the members murmured, shocked and horrified. They had known that Shen Zheng was harmed by the Mutual Aid Society using underhanded methods, but they were unaware of the specifics until now. This not only made them resent Zhao Qian and his associates but also made them realize that even if that attempt had failed, there would have been other means to ensure Shen Zheng's demise.
"Thankfully, Chen Chuan took care of the Mutual Aid Society in one fell swoop! Well done!" the members exclaimed, nodding in agreement. Their hearts were stirred with a mix of emotions, knowing that while they couldn't deal with certain people, there were still others in the world who could.
"However, Senior Shen has a younger sister, and her whereabouts are unknown," one member spoke up. "The Wei family's butler said she was taken to Central City by the Zhao family..."
A heavy silence fell upon the group. They knew that their senior had been harmed by the Mutual Aid Society, but the fate of his sister was uncertain.
Lu Fang stood up quietly and walked outside, deep in thought. Soon, Shu Han and Shen Shao joined him. After a moment of eye contact, Shu Han approached and asked, "Senior Lu, are you planning to find out what happened to Senior Shen's sister?"
Lu Fang turned and openly admitted, "Yes, I want to try. She might have been the last person Senior Shen cared about. If we don't take action, who will?"
Shu Han expressed concern, "But she's in Central City, and without a formal identity, it's difficult to establish yourself there, let alone search for someone."
Shen Shao added, "Senior, I'm not heartless. I've been thinking that it's been three years, and we don't know how she's doing now. Perhaps..."
Lu Fang insisted, "We must at least try."
He patted both of their shoulders reassuringly, "With you two in the Fenixin Society, I'm at ease. Rest assured, I won't be reckless. I'm aware of my limitations, but I want to confirm her situation. If she's still alive, I'll let you know, and we'll figure out a plan together."
