Chapter 226: The Truth Comes to Light (Second Update)
Chapter 226: The Truth Comes to Light (Second Update)
In Jerry's mind, Legilimency was a spell used to read minds and gather intelligence. He had never considered that it could also be used to aid in combat.
If that's the case, it's not just useful in magical battles; even in hand-to-hand combat, Legilimency could be incredibly powerful. Knowing your opponent's moves in advance, as long as your body can keep up, wouldn't you instantly become a martial arts master?
Jerry was an amateur martial arts enthusiast in his previous life. He knew very well that prediction was a crucial and highly challenging skill in close combat.
Many martial arts techniques involve sensing the opponent's strength and movements through touch and internal awareness, such as the Tai Chi touch and the Wing Chun touch. These techniques allow one to gauge the opponent's force, direction, and timing, enabling them to anticipate and counterattack.
Sometimes, with strong predictive skills, you can even defeat much stronger opponents with minimal effort.
For example, if a much larger person throws a punch at you, and you predict the trajectory of the attack, you can easily dodge or strike a vital point.
A true martial arts master can often take on multiple opponents because they can predict the movements of their enemies and quickly incapacitate them.
If Jerry learned Legilimency, even without using magic or superhuman strength, his heightened senses would make him a formidable martial arts master.
Now, it seemed that a witch of Voldemort's caliber had a lot to offer.
Thus, at the start of the new semester, Jerry dove back into the study, research, and improvement of magic.
Meanwhile, on the second floor girls' bathroom.
An elderly man with a white beard slowly approached the toilet where Myrtle was bound, and with a wave of his hand, he lifted the binding curse on her.
"Aaaah! Headmaster, you must do something about this! This is the third time since the start of the term that I've been bound with magic. It's terrible, terrible! I've never seen such wicked young wizards!"
As soon as Myrtle was freed, she burst into tears and complained to Dumbledore.
Dumbledore looked down at Myrtle, who was sobbing and crying at his feet, and shook his head helplessly.
"Alright, I understand. Did you see which young wizard bound you this time?"
A week ago, Myrtle had already approached him, saying a young wizard had bound her with magic at night. At first, he hadn't taken it seriously, as this wasn't the first time such an incident had occurred. He had merely comforted her and instructed Filch to be more vigilant during his night patrols.
However, the next day, Myrtle had come to him again with the same complaint, having been bound in the toilet for several hours.
By then, he had started to suspect something. While young wizards often threw books at Myrtle, using magic to bind her was rare, especially for two consecutive days.
Myrtle's identity was also sensitive; she was the student who had been killed when the Chamber of Secrets was opened, right here in the second floor girls' bathroom.
But upon closer questioning, she couldn't provide any concrete details. She hadn't seen anyone or heard any sounds.
Things had been quiet for a few days until today, when a portrait alerted him to footsteps on the second floor, though no one was seen. He immediately rushed over and found Myrtle bound once again.
"I didn't see anyone, but this time I heard a sound. It seemed to be coming from near the sink!"
Myrtle thought for a moment before responding, then continued to cling to Dumbledore, sobbing and recounting her misfortunes.
Dumbledore, feeling helpless, had no choice but to drag Myrtle over to the sink.
Fortunately, Myrtle was a ghost and had no weight; otherwise, Dumbledore's old arms and legs might not have been able to move her.
"Hmm?"
Circling the sink, Dumbledore quickly discovered a small red ball under one of the faucets.
With his level of magic, he immediately recognized that it was a small ball with recording magic.
Using magic power to activate the ball, it immediately emitted a series of Parseltongue, followed by a pipe corridor appearing before Dumbledore's eyes.
In the Chamber of Secrets, a parchment letter lay quietly on the ground.
A month after the start of the school year.
At Hagrid's hut, Jerry and the others had just arrived at the door when they saw Hagrid, beaming with joy, humming a tune while drinking butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks.
"Hagrid, what's got you so happy?"
Jerry asked with a smile.
Hagrid's large, ruddy face broke into a wide grin when he saw Jerry and the others.
"Oh, you're here! Today is just the best day ever. A matter that wrongfully accused me for almost fifty years has finally been resolved!"
"Is it the incident that prevented you from using magic?"
Harry asked, his face full of curiosity.
He knew that Hagrid had been banned from using magic by the Ministry of Magic for certain reasons and had to perform magic in secret.
Hagrid nodded happily.
"Yes, that's it. Now the truth has come out, and I can finally use magic openly again!"
Hagrid then recounted the events from years ago to Jerry and the others.
Forty-nine years ago, when Hagrid was still a student at Hogwarts, the legendary Chamber of Secrets was said to have been opened, and a student was killed as a result.
At the time, Hagrid was secretly keeping an Acromantula, and a witch reported him as the one who opened the Chamber of Secrets.
Thanks to Dumbledore's full support, Hagrid was spared from being sent to Azkaban, but the Ministry of Magic stripped him of his right to use magic for life.
Now, Dumbledore had found evidence proving that Hagrid was not the one who opened the Chamber of Secrets back then. The person who did was someone else, and the student was not killed by the Acromantula but by a monstrous creature called a Basilisk.
So, Hagrid was now free to use magic again.
That evening, in the Slytherin common room.
Jerry recounted the story he heard from Hagrid to Voldemort in the diary, sighing:
"I misunderstood you. It turns out the Chamber of Secrets had already been opened once before, and the treasures inside were likely stolen by the thief from forty-nine years ago!
I wonder who that person was. When I asked Hagrid, he said he didn't know, and Dumbledore didn't tell him!"
The diary remained silent for a while before responding:
"Yes, it seems that's the case!"
At that moment, Voldemort was thinking that Dumbledore must have found a way to open the Chamber of Secrets and kill the Basilisk before them.
He had to admit, Dumbledore was a crafty old man. He had thought the old wizard was senile, but it seemed he still couldn't be taken lightly.
"By the way, I've almost mastered the Legilimency you taught me. Now teach me Occlumency!"
Reading Jerry's words in the diary, Voldemort couldn't help but marvel at this young Slytherin wizard named Jerry, who was a rare magic prodigy, his talent only slightly less than his own from years ago.
