Chapter 226: Big Client
Chapter 226: Big Client
County Town.
East Village.
Wang Yong was discussing with his wife, Liu Yiyang, about throwing a grand celebration for their first grandson’s full moon.
Wang Yong said, "Old lady, when our son and daughter-in-law got married last year, I invested all our money into building the factory. That was a tough time for our family, so their wedding banquet was very simple, almost meager."
"Now that our factory is making money, I want to throw a grand celebration for our grandson’s full moon. What do you think?"
Liu Yiyang nodded and said, "Sure, let's go all out. We can invite a theater troupe to perform for a few days and make it a lively event."
Wang Yong replied, "Inviting a theater troupe is simple and won’t cost much. I have another idea I want to discuss with you."
Liu Yiyang asked, "What’s your idea?"
Wang Yong said, "I don’t want to hold the celebration at home. I’m thinking of hosting it at the Shuifeng Hotel. What do you think?"
Liu Yiyang was taken aback. She knew about the Shuifeng Hotel, which had opened a few days ago. The grand opening had been a huge event, with a promotional team marching through the streets, drumming and holding banners, and hundreds of people following along, making the entire county town buzz with excitement. Everyone living in the county town and its surroundings knew about the new hotel.
She also knew that the Shuifeng Hotel was the largest in the county. Hosting the full moon celebration there would certainly be a great honor.
Liu Yiyang was immediately intrigued but had some reservations. "Your idea to host the celebration at the Shuifeng Hotel is great, but I’m not sure about the prices. Is it worth it?"
Wang Yong confidently said, "In business, prices are always negotiable. Since the Shuifeng Hotel just opened, we might be their first customers for a banquet. As long as the owner isn’t foolish, he’ll give us the best deal possible."
Liu Yiyang nodded. "If that’s the case, you should go and talk to the hotel owner. If the price is reasonable, we’ll book it and give our grandson a grand celebration."
Seeing his wife’s agreement, Wang Yong stood up and said, "Since you have no objections, I’ll go talk to the hotel owner right now."
...
Shuifeng Hotel.
Deng Shirong, as usual, was sitting with Zhang Guangzong, chatting and drinking.
Today was the seventh day since the hotel opened. Thanks to the grand opening promotion, the hotel’s revenue had been steadily increasing. Even after the first three days of an 80% discount, the fourth day’s revenue didn’t drop; it even increased slightly, and the profit margins were higher.
Yesterday, the revenue broke through the hundred-yuan mark for the first time, which made Deng Shirong and his family extremely happy.
With the hotel’s smooth start and stable revenue, Deng Shirong was now considering taking his children, including Deng Yunzhu, back to their hometown.
On one hand, the children had too many distractions in the county town, affecting their studies.
On the other hand, it was already late May in the lunar calendar, and in about a month, the longan fruit at the Bai Ping Farm would be ready for harvesting. He needed to find a suitable place in Tanlian, whether to rent or buy, to temporarily store the longan fruit, making it easier for him to transfer them into his system space.
After making up his mind, Deng Shirong mentioned this to Zhang Guangzong. "Uncle Zhang, the hotel is now stable. If nothing comes up, I’ll take the children who are still in school back to our hometown tomorrow. We’ll have another drink when I return."
Zhang Guangzong had long known that the main managers of the restaurant were the boss's son and daughter-in-law. So when the boss mentioned going back to his hometown, he wasn't surprised at all. He smiled and said, "Boss, don't worry. With me here, nothing will go wrong with the restaurant."
As they were talking, a customer walked in.
It was just past ten in the morning, and only Deng Shirong and Zhang Guangzong were having their drinks. The staff meal hadn't even been served yet, and it was rare for customers to come in at this time. After all, it was neither early nor late, and most people who had eaten breakfast weren't hungry yet!
However, no matter the time, if a customer came in, they had to be treated well.
The waitress, Zhang Wenjuan, greeted the customer immediately. "Hello, sir. Please take a seat over here."
The customer was none other than Wang Yong from East Village. After choosing the nearest table, he got straight to the point. "I want to hold my grandson's full moon celebration at your restaurant. Could I talk to the boss about it?"
Deng Shirong's eyes lit up at this. He had expanded the restaurant precisely to handle large events like weddings, full moon celebrations, and birthday banquets. The more such events he could take on, the more money he would make.
However, he knew that in this era, people's financial conditions weren't as good as they would be in the future. Few would think of holding such events at a restaurant; they preferred to do it at home if possible.
He had planned to wait another two or three years, by which time more people would have the means to hold events at a restaurant. After all, hosting a banquet at a restaurant was far more prestigious than doing it at home. Deng Shirong, who had lived for eight or nine decades across two lifetimes, understood the importance of face in Chinese culture.
He never expected that just a week after opening, a customer would come in to discuss holding a banquet. This was truly unexpected.
So, Deng Shirong nodded to Zhang Guangzong and got up to sit in front of the customer. He smiled and greeted him. "Hello, sir. I'm the owner of this restaurant. My name is Deng. May I ask for your name?"
The boss of such a large restaurant in the county was clearly not an ordinary person. As a businessman, Wang Yong didn't put on airs and greeted him politely. "Hello, Mr. Deng. I'm Wang."
Soon, Zhang Xiuping personally brought a pot of good tea.
Deng Yuntao, sitting at a nearby table, listened quietly to his father's conversation with the customer, learning how to deal with important guests who came to the restaurant to hold banquets.
After a few polite exchanges, Wang Yong got straight to the point. "Mr. Deng, I want to hold my grandson's full moon celebration at your restaurant. Could you tell me how you charge for banquets?"
"Mr. Wang, we have two main options for banquets," Deng Shirong explained with a smile. "One is a fixed menu set by our restaurant. We offer a basic 18 yuan per table package, a medium 28 yuan per table package, a high-end 38 yuan per table package, and a luxurious 68 yuan per table package.
The other option is for the customer to choose their own menu, and the price will be determined based on the dishes selected.
Mr. Wang, would you like to choose your own menu, or would you prefer one of our fixed packages?"
That's the second chapter for today. The third chapter will be up later tonight.
