Chapter 225: Emergency Response Team
Chapter 225: Emergency Response Team
Over the next few days, Lu Heng spent most of his time in the training grounds, honing his swordsmanship.
During this period, he received a mission to clear the mist in the Southern War Zone, and Lu Heng led his team to successfully resolve the crisis.
He earned another medal for his efforts.
Su Muyu and Lin Zeyu also received first-class group merit medals, as well as second-class individual merit medals.
After reaching Origin Energy Level 29, Lu Heng's agility reached 85.9. Following the mist-clearing mission and these days of training, his attributes saw minor improvements across the board.
When he unleashed a Sonic Blade strike, he received a notification of attribute growth.
His agility increased by 0.1, breaking through the integer level and reaching 86 points.
With an agility of 86, Lu Heng's speed could surpass 276 meters per second during the charged thrust of his Windrunner skill.
This speed still fell short of the speed of sound.
However, combined with the speed of his sword swings, it was more than sufficient.
Currently, during the charged thrust phase of Windrunner, Lu Heng's sword slashes would momentarily break the sound barrier, creating a sonic boom cloud at the tip of his blade.
Each time he broke the sound barrier, the resulting sonic boom would cause intense vibrations in the sword blade.
If his strength attribute was insufficient, the sonic boom might even cause the sword to fly out of his hand.
As Lu Heng practiced his swordsmanship, he also trained to control the recoil of the Sonic Blade, ensuring that the vibrations did not affect the precision of his strikes.
As his speed approached the speed of sound, the wear and tear on his shoes became astonishingly rapid.
In fact, when Lu Heng trained, he would release Origin Energy to attach to his soles and the bottom of his shoes, specifically to prevent them from being instantly destroyed during supersonic running.
This was considered a fundamental skill for metahumans, as no commercial products on Blue Planet could withstand the high-intensity training and combat of metahumans.
Even with Origin Energy counteracting the reaction forces during running, the shoes still wore out incredibly fast.
Looking at his new shoes, which had split open after just two days of use, Lu Heng began to consider acquiring a pair of greaves for his next trip into the Abyss Battlefield.
...
Time moved into the tenth month of the Abyssal Descent.
As the mist continued to spread across Blue Planet, human living spaces were increasingly compressed.
Some smaller nations struggled to repel the mist's invasion and lacked the power to disperse it, resorting to seeking help from international mercenary organizations.
It was in recent months that these international mercenary organizations began to thrive.
In times of peace, many countries would not allow mercenary organizations to enter their borders.
After all, these groups were armed forces with heavy firepower, and no country wanted to grant entry to such a group when there was no need for mercenaries to defend against demons.
As the Abyssal invasion intensified, many nations found themselves under attack from all sides, leaving them no choice but to hire mercenaries to deal with the mist crisis.
Consequently, the top ten mercenary organizations in the world had already obtained armed passage rights in numerous countries.
Only Daxia, the White Eagle Federation, and the Lionheart Empire, with their strong military might, continued to prohibit the entry of armed mercenaries.
Of course, these countries had their own mercenary organizations, so the ban only applied to foreign mercenary groups.
Mercenaries within Daxia were subject to strict scrutiny to ensure they posed no threat to the nation or its people before being granted mercenary licenses.
Licensed mercenaries could legally use high-intensity heat weapons.
Naturally, there were strict regulations regarding their use.
These regulations were part of the licensing process, and all mercenary organizations within the country had to abide by them, or they risked having their licenses revoked.
International mercenary organizations, however, were a different story.
Especially when smaller nations hired these groups to deal with mist crises, no one could control what these mercenaries might do after entering the country.
There was even the possibility of looting, arson, and pillaging.
Similar news stories were often reported, but no one could do anything about it.
The cruelty of this era was vividly displayed in regions that were unable to protect themselves.
Only nations with complete sovereignty and self-defense capabilities could maintain a relatively intact social order.
In this era, Daxia's order was already one of the best in the world, but there were still some strange species seeking to escape to the beacon of hope.
Although Daxia's order had not collapsed, this era still saw frequent heinous crimes.
Robberies, thefts, and metahuman conflicts were common.
Especially after the emergence of the superhuman serum in the market, the occurrence of these crimes increased.
Despite the Daxia government's ban on the sale and possession of the serum, with severe penalties for violators, it was impossible to completely prevent drug abuse even in times of peace, let alone during the Abyssal era.
Consequently, there were still many metahumans who, after injecting the superhuman serum, experienced a temporary surge in combat power, only to go on a rampage of robberies and crimes to fund the purchase of more serum as their Origin Energy levels declined.
There were even underground organizations that gathered these serum-controlled metahumans to carry out large-scale criminal activities.
Several heinous bank robberies had occurred.
For this reason, the Iron Blood Investigation Bureau had been busy dealing with these cases.
Chen Lianian was overwhelmed, getting only three to four hours of sleep each day.
The bureau was stretched thin, so they established an Emergency Response Team to seek the assistance of metahumans.
This evening, as Lu Heng finished his training and was about to head home, his phone suddenly rang. It was an emergency rescue mission from the Iron Blood Emergency Response Team.
A large-scale robbery had taken place on Coastal Zhongzheng Street. Numerous masked metahumans stormed the streets, looting shops along the way.
All high-value stores were under attack, including crystal core stores, auction houses, jewelry shops, and mobile phone stores, leaving no one untouched.
Moreover, the robbery was still ongoing.
The group chat of the Emergency Response Team shared a video, showing a large group of masked robbers rampaging through the streets, smashing shop windows with weapons and looting everything of value.
Lu Heng opened his digital map and checked the location of the incident, realizing it was less than five kilometers away from him.
He could get there in just a minute.
However, as his gaze swept across the map, Lu Heng noticed a bank logo on the neighboring street where the robbery was taking place. Upon zooming in, he recognized it as the Coastal Branch of the Commercial Bank.
With a major robbery happening in the adjacent neighborhood, why was the street with the bank so quiet? Lu Heng activated his Windrunner skill and sprinted towards Zhongzheng Street, simultaneously calling Chen Lianian, only to find his phone was busy. He opted to send a voice message instead.
Due to his high running speed, the wind whistled in the background of his message: "Inspector Chen, just a reminder, the Commercial Bank's Coastal Branch is right next to Zhongzheng Street."
After sending the message, Lu Heng put on his earband communicator and asked in the team channel, "Anyone heading to Zhongzheng Street?"
Lin Ze Yu was the first to respond, "I'm at Flame Emblem, but it's a bit far. Should I come over?"
Lu Heng didn't ask him to rush over, "It's just a robbery, and it'll be over by the time you get here."
These sudden situations, especially robberies, happened quickly, but as soon as high-combat metahumans from the Emergency Response Team arrived, the situation would be resolved swiftly, often within a few minutes.
Soon after, Su Muyu's voice came through, "I'll go. The Celestial Phoenix is almost here, and I can provide aerial support."
The Celestial Phoenix had a skill called 'Glowing Shuttle'.
This skill allowed the Celestial Phoenix to transform into a beam of light and fly at a speed of 10 times its Mental Power in meters per second when unburdened.
During the previous Abyssal Battlefield mission with the Banseer Tribe in Fusang, Su Muyu had reached level 28, with 69 points in Mental Attributes.
This meant that the Celestial Phoenix could reach a speed of 690 meters per second in its Glowing Shuttle state.
With a distance of 10 kilometers, it would only take 14 seconds to arrive.
Soon after Su Muyu's message, she began providing aerial reconnaissance, "In the middle of Zhongzheng Street, there are robbers using firearms to drive away civilians. I'll take care of a few first."
She dove with the Celestial Phoenix, tearing apart several robbers, but she dared not use skills like Solar Wind.
The coverage area of Solar Wind was too vast.
If she unleashed it, half of Zhongzheng Street would turn to ashes.
She didn't want to be responsible for the deaths of countless innocent people.
So, Su Muyu could only use the Celestial Phoenix's claws to scratch and attack the robbers, but it was a slow process.
At that moment, Lu Heng arrived and joined the battle.
A group of frenzied metahumans, upon seeing a powerful fighter, immediately opened fire, disregarding the safety of civilians.
As Lu Heng charged forward, he saw bullets flying towards him. He turned back and noticed a large group of terrified civilians screaming and fleeing.
That burst of gunfire could potentially kill countless people.
Lu Heng's eyes narrowed, and he immediately activated his Bullet Time skill, causing everything around him to slow down, including the bullets flying slowly past him.
Lu Heng drew his Aurora Blade, blocking and deflecting the bullets with his sword, sending them flying in all directions. He rushed towards the shooter and sliced him in two with a single strike.
"Prism Field!" Lu Heng shouted as he noticed other frenzied metahumans about to shoot at civilians.
"Roger that!"
The Celestial Phoenix dove down and erected a prism field in the middle of the street, blocking all incoming gunfire.
Lu Heng released his upgraded Divine Incarnation skill, splitting himself into two, and rushed into the alleys on both sides to stop the rampaging robbers.
In the alley, he slashed down one robber with his sword. The robber in front, wearing a mask, turned back and saw Lu Heng, immediately pleading for mercy, but in a language resembling bird chirps.
Lu Heng frowned and used his sword to remove the mask, revealing a black man's face, as dark as the bottom of a pot.
There were indeed some black people in Coastal City, and some were even illegal immigrants.
This had made certain black-dominated areas particularly unsafe.
It was like this even before the Abyssal Descent, and it only got worse after.
Lu Heng was surprised to see a black man, and his anger burned as he cut off the robber's head, turning to continue pursuing the other robbers, swiftly restoring order to the chaotic scene.
