Chapter 224: Tom Riddle: I Worked So Hard, and You Treat Me Like This?
Chapter 224: Tom Riddle: I Worked So Hard, and You Treat Me Like This?
Ivan remained silent for a long time, and Tom Riddle realized that Ivan intended to break their previous agreement. He angrily asked:
"Why?"
Ivan sighed, picked up the nearby Quill, and wrote on the Diary:
"Tom, you've always been a good person! So, can you help me one last time? Tell me where you hid those documents. I'll go and get them myself!"
Ivan's tone was sincere. They were friends, and if possible, Ivan didn't want to resort to violent means to obtain the information he needed.
Tom Riddle was deeply angered and more confused. Words quickly appeared on the white paper, filling the entire page.
"You don't trust me? Why? I have always been so dedicated to teaching you various forms of magic."
"Dedicated? But the magical knowledge you taught me had at least twenty-nine errors!" Ivan was tired of arguing with Tom Riddle and directly countered.
Tom Riddle was stunned. He hadn't expected Ivan to be so aware of his previous actions, and he felt a bit embarrassed.
Perhaps he thought this was the reason Ivan didn't trust him. Tom quickly explained:
"Hals, you misunderstood! I am just the memory of a sixteen-year-old student. It's normal to have some omissions. I never meant to deceive you."
"Is that so? Then why did that memory need to regain power? I saw very clearly when you devoured the spider's flesh and soul."
Ivan mocked, mercilessly exposing Tom's facade, and continued:
"You have never told me the truth, have you, Tom? Of course, I have no reason to believe you!"
"I also know very well that you never considered me a friend!"
Ivan's words hit home, and Tom Riddle was thoroughly enraged. The Diary on the table began to tremble on its own.
"Enough! Hals! Don't forget! When you encountered difficulties in your magical research, who helped you? When you were stuck in alchemy, who came to your aid?"
"I spent so much time helping you, and what about you, Hals? You deceived me from the moment we met! You are a student of Slytherin!"
"When I asked you about the current state of the magical world and who defeated the Dark Lord Harry Potter, you told me you didn't know much! I believed you."
"But in the end, you were Harry Potter's best friend!"
Large blocks of text appeared on the paper, each sentence filled with Tom Riddle's intense anger.
From birth to now, Tom Riddle felt he had never been so good to anyone else, working so diligently and hard, all to gain the other person's trust.
But what was the result? Ivan Hals had never trusted him from the beginning.
Tom Riddle was almost driven mad with anger!
At the same time, Tom recalled the times they spent together, noticing the inconsistencies. Now, everything made sense—Hals had been toying with him all along!
Tom's heart was filled with resentment and confusion. What had he done wrong to be so distrusted and targeted?
"Don't say that, Tom. I'm just a second-year student. Don't accuse me falsely. It was you who used Legilimency to spy on my memories", Ivan said, looking at the words appearing on the Diary, a bit embarrassed.
When Ivan mentioned Legilimency, Tom Riddle fell completely silent. He hadn't expected Ivan to know about that.
Tom Riddle vaguely felt that the situation was spiraling out of his control.
Seeing that Tom had fallen silent, Ivan finally spoke up.
"I'll say this again. Tell me, where did you put those documents? Or perhaps, where is Salazar Slytherin's laboratory in the Chamber of Secrets, and how do you open it?"
"I don't have the patience for this, Tom!" Ivan drew his wand and pointed it at the Horcrux, threateningly.
"Do you really think you can harm me? With the magic you've learned?"
The ink on the Diary reappeared, dripping with sarcasm. Then, an endless cloud of black mist poured out from the Diary, sweeping towards Ivan.
Though he was just a fragment of a soul, he had absorbed the flesh and soul of a spider, giving him some resistance.
However, in the next moment, Ivan activated the Fiendfyre Ring on his left hand, and a strand of terrifying flame floated from the tip of his wand.
The black mist instantly recoiled, retreating back into the Diary as if nothing had happened.
"Fiendfyre?!" Tom Riddle's voice sounded in panic from within the Diary. There were few things in the magical world that could destroy a Horcrux, and Fiendfyre was one of them.
"Yes, it's Fiendfyre!" Ivan nodded. He had gone to great lengths to obtain this ring from Aesia, specifically to destroy Horcruxes.
"You only have one chance to speak!" Ivan said coldly, moving the Fiendfyre towards the Horcrux.
"Without my help, you will never get what you want!" The Diary trembled, and the words appeared on the open page.
"The Chamber is not that big. Who are you trying to fool? I can just search it all!" Ivan frowned, uncertain if Tom Riddle was telling the truth, but he spoke with disdain.
"Then go ahead."
The Diary displayed these words and then closed itself.
Like a real Diary, it remained motionless, even as the Fiendfyre approached, waiting quietly for death.
Ivan's hand paused at the last moment. Tom Riddle's calm demeanor made him uneasy. Could it be that there were special conditions to activate Slytherin's laboratory?
Or perhaps the item wasn't in the Chamber at all, and Tom had already moved it?
Ivan was so close to completing his mission. He didn't want all his efforts to be in vain.
With this thought, Ivan stopped the effect of the Fiendfyre Ring and began searching through the drawers for something.
Tom Riddle breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he had won the bet.
He was well aware that if he had no value, the young wizard in front of him would burn the Horcrux without hesitation. By remaining silent, he had a slim chance of survival.
Although his power was still weak, he could still exert some influence. When Ivan let his guard down, there might be an opportunity to strike back.
However, as Tom was plotting his next move, he saw Ivan pull out a white cover from the drawer.
The magical runes on it were very familiar to Tom, as they were the Sealing Runic Inscription he had taught Ivan a few months ago.
