Chapter 224: Horcruxes
Chapter 224: Horcruxes
Facing Voldemort's recruitment attempt, Kyle's heart remained unwavering.
Just look at how the "main antagonist" from sixty years ago put it... all for the greater good.
Now that's a high-end, blood-pumping slogan.
And then look at Voldemort... not offering any benefits, but instead spouting empty promises of power and status.
To be honest, this old trick would only fool someone as pure and naive as Quirinus.
However, Kyle thought about it carefully and soon figured it out.
After all, whether it was Slytherin's locket or Hufflepuff's cup, all the treasures Voldemort had collected were turned into Horcruxes, so it was natural that he couldn't bring them out.
And if he had a rousing battle cry...
Like shouting, "I am the Chosen One, the only one," or "Fight for a better tomorrow," perhaps the current Headmaster of Hogwarts would be Riddle instead of Dumbledore.
Kyle mused inwardly.
Due to the protection of the Occlumency spell, Voldemort didn't know what he was thinking. Seeing Kyle's lack of response, he thought that his offer wasn't tempting enough.
"What a greedy little brat..."
Voldemort continued in his hoarse voice, "But what if I could grant you immortality... just like me, free from the agony of aging, untouched by death, and eternal in this world!"
Now that offer was a bit more enticing.
"That's exactly what I wanted to ask." Kyle lowered his head and pondered for a moment before asking, "Mr. Voldemort, can you tell me how Horcruxes are made...?"
"Kill him!"
Kyle hadn't even finished his sentence when Voldemort's furious hiss rang in his ears.
Horcruxes were his biggest secret, and although he didn't know how this young wizard before him had discovered it, it didn't matter anymore—he had to die!
Quirinus seemed to have wanted to do this a long time ago, as he immediately turned around and raised his wand.
A faint green light began to materialize...
"Avada..."
But Kyle was faster. At the same moment Voldemort gave the order, he also opened his box...
A three-headed dog rushed out and bit down on Quirinus' arm.
"Crack..."
A crisp sound echoed through the room.
Quirinus' hand was severed, and his wand clattered to the ground. He tried to pick it up, but the next second, a wave of scorching flame engulfed him.
Norbert, the Norwegian Ridgeback, flew behind Kyle, spewing dragonfire at will.
Having been parasitized by Voldemort for a long time and having his life force largely drained by Biting Ton-Tong, Quirinus was already on his last legs.
Under the searing dragonfire, his screams lasted only a moment before fading away.
When Kyle dispelled the flames, Quirinus was barely clinging to life.
He lay motionless on the ground, his chest rising and falling faintly.
If not for drinking unicorn blood in advance, he probably would have been long dead by now.
Rowe bit down on half of Quirinus' body, and Norbert flew beside him, ready to spew dragonfire again at any moment.
"I was just about to say..." Kyle walked over and shook his head slightly, "It's dangerous to point your wand at people like that, Professor Quirinus."
"Who are you, really!" Voldemort's eyes blazed with murderous intent.
If looks could kill, Kyle probably would have died countless times over... Well, Voldemort's gaze could indeed kill, but fortunately, he was too weak at the moment to perform wandless magic.
Kyle asked again, "How exactly are Horcruxes made?"
At this point, Voldemort seemed to have accepted the situation and gradually calmed down.
"How do you know about Horcruxes?" he asked.
"As it turns out, you should be familiar with the Room of Requirement, that mysterious room on the eighth floor."
Kyle smiled as he said, "Guess what I found in there..."
"Tsk, I have to say, that plaster statue was hideous."
"The diadem of Ravenclaw..." Voldemort said in a raspy voice.
"Yes... after all, it was something you personally placed there, so you must be aware of it," Kyle said.
"When I first discovered it, I was overjoyed, but soon I realized something was off," Kyle continued.
"After that, I spent an entire school year searching through all the books in the manor to confirm that the diadem had been turned into a Horcrux," he added.
"I was curious about this, but the information in those books was too general, and there were no specifics about the Horcrux-making process," Kyle explained.
"I also checked the restricted section in the library, but found no clues there either..."
"It's Dumbledore..." Voldemort sneered. "Perhaps he's collected all the books related to Horcruxes, that hypocrite."
"So, I had no choice but to come to you," Kyle shrugged. "After all, I can't exactly ask the Headmaster for that kind of information."
"But why should I tell you?" Voldemort scoffed. "You can kill Quirinus right now. He's nothing but a useless, inadequate tool, and his death would mean nothing to me."
"It seems you don't intend to tell me," Kyle said, sounding disappointed.
"No, I've changed my mind," Voldemort decided. "As a reward for discovering the diadem, I've decided to tell you everything about Horcruxes!"
Voldemort suddenly laughed, his eyes gleaming with madness. "Ahahaha... Dumbledore, my dear professor, I'm sure you wouldn't approve of me teaching this to him, but I'm going to do it anyway... What can you do about it, oh great... Dumbledore?"
"Listen carefully," Voldemort continued, his voice cold. "Creating a Horcrux requires an act of murder... But before that, you need to master a special spell, one that allows you to touch your own soul..."
Kyle was taken aback. He had intended to use the diadem as leverage against Voldemort, but he never expected him to agree so readily.
Was this all because of his rivalry with Dumbledore?
Some sort of twisted love-hate relationship? Dumbledore certainly seemed to be well-liked...
But these thoughts were irrelevant to Kyle.
He gave Voldemort a cautious glance, then took out a quick-quotes quill and a piece of parchment.
The room seemed to have transformed into a classroom, except the professor before him was dangerous and unpredictable, the kind who could take your life at any moment.
To be fair, Voldemort did have the makings of a good professor. He always seemed to pinpoint the most crucial issues and then simplify lengthy topics into a few concise sentences, all based on his own unique understanding.
Even with something as complex as Horcruxes, he took only a few minutes to explain the entire process, without a single wasted word.
"I can't wait to see..." Voldemort said, a cold smile on his face. "...Dumbledore's expression when he finds out you've been making Horcruxes. It will be priceless, I'm sure... Hehe."
