Chapter 223: Our Plastic Friendship Is Over Today!
Chapter 223: Our Plastic Friendship Is Over Today!
How is this possible?
Tom Riddle was in shock and confusion. In his view, Parseltongue was a talent granted by his bloodline, something that no one else could master.
"Hisss~" Ivan was still trying to adjust his tone, mimicking Tom's voice. Soon, he became increasingly similar.
"How about it? Tom, is my pronunciation standard enough?" After practicing a few times, Ivan turned to look at Tom and asked.
"That's great! It seems Parseltongue isn't as hard to learn as you said." Ivan breathed a sigh of relief. He had been worried that Parseltongue might have some special secrets, but now, with Tom, the master of Parseltongue, confirming it, he felt more at ease.
Then, Ivan asked, "What did you teach me just now, Tom?"
"That means death!" Tom Riddle explained, then, after some thought, he couldn't help but ask, "Have you ever come into contact with Parseltongue before, Hals? Who are your parents? Have they ever tried to talk to snakes?"
Tom Riddle found it hard to believe that Ivan could master Parseltongue, and so quickly at that. He had only demonstrated it a few times.
Ivan shook his head, indicating that his birth was nothing special, just that his learning ability was particularly strong.
Then, Ivan hurriedly urged Tom Riddle to teach him the next word.
Tom Riddle, still not giving up, taught a few more words and phrases. Finally, he confirmed that Ivan indeed had a talent for learning Parseltongue.
This discovery made Tom Riddle increasingly regretful. He had revealed so much important information to Ivan in the hope that the latter would lead him to the Chamber of Secrets.
After consuming the flesh and soul of a spider, Tom had barely managed to manifest in the real world. Once he returned to the Chamber, he could control the Basilisk and kill Ivan.
After so many days, Tom's patience had been exhausted. He no longer had any hope of controlling the young wizard in front of him to serve him. Instead, he wanted to break free from the other's control and find an easier target to deceive.
That was why he had proactively introduced the concept of bloodline fusion, explaining that it could significantly enhance strength and talent.
Tom knew that a young wizard like Ivan, who was passionate about studying magic and improving his strength, would be unable to resist such a temptation.
However, he had miscalculated, not expecting Ivan to easily master the crucial Parseltongue.
This meant that the young wizard in front of him had the capability to abandon him and search for clues to the Chamber on his own.
So, after teaching a few simple words and phrases, Tom stopped, looking displeased.
"What's wrong?" Ivan was quickly expanding his Parseltongue vocabulary. Seeing Tom suddenly stop speaking, he was puzzled.
"That's enough for today. My strength is still very weak, and I can't maintain this state for long." Tom sighed, retracting all the dark mist and preparing to return to the Diary. He needed some time to calm down.
Ivan was confused but soon realized that he had thwarted Tom's plans. Of course, the other wouldn't continue to teach him wholeheartedly.
"Then we'll learn it Tomorrow", Ivan nodded, not forcing Tom Riddle, just mentioning it casually.
"By the way, you haven't told me where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is yet? Are there traps and mechanisms there? Are there any other dangers? Otherwise, once I learn Parseltongue, I can take you with me when I enter the Chamber of Secrets."
Tom Riddle, who was about to return to the Horcrux, stopped, staring at Ivan in surprise. He then remembered that besides Parseltongue, he had another card to play: the location of the Chamber of Secrets' entrance.
With this thought, Tom Riddle's hope was rekindled.
However, Tom vaguely sensed something was off, but he couldn't quite figure it out. He just felt that the timing of this young wizard's words seemed too convenient.
"Alright, I'll teach you Tomorrow!" Tom nodded with a strange expression, agreeing, and then transformed into a black mist, entering the Horcrux.
Seeing Tom nod, Ivan's heart, which had been on edge, finally relaxed. He had managed to get away with it.
But thinking about the black stain that appeared at the entrance of the Room of Requirement, Ivan frowned and put the Diary in his robe pocket, deciding to be more cautious in the coming days.
Over the next few days, while Ivan was learning Parseltongue from Tom Riddle, he didn't forget to frequently check the situation in the Room of Requirement.
He hoped to catch anyone who might have sneaked in while he was away.
However, after several days, Ivan found nothing. The bait he had deliberately placed in the Room of Requirement hadn't been touched, and there was no sign of anything being disturbed, as if the stain had been a mere illusion.
This made Ivan even more puzzled. Could it really have been just an accident?
Ivan was quite frustrated, but the one bright spot was that after a few days of learning Parseltongue, he finally managed to decipher the characters given by the system.
Just as Luna had guessed, it was just a phrase:
"Honor the great Founder—Salazar Slytherin!"
Ivan recalled the words Tom had spoken when he opened the Chamber and released the Basilisk.
It seemed this passphrase was used to open something, and the content was entirely in line with Salazar Slytherin's narcissistic style.
When Ivan checked the progress of the Bloodline Origin task again, he found that deciphering the characters had brought the current progress to forty-five percent.
What was missing was finding the place that needed this passphrase to open. Ivan guessed that this place was likely where Salazar Slytherin conducted his experiments, most probably somewhere in the Chamber of Secrets.
"Hals, I've taught you everything you wanted to learn. Can we go to the Chamber of Secrets now?"
The Diary on the table started flipping through its pages, and black ink appeared on them.
Ivan watched the Horcrux Diary silently, not replying.
Over the past few days, Ivan had used various excuses to fend off Tom Riddle's repeated requests, and their relationship had plummeted to an all-time low, teetering on the brink of a complete breakdown.
As a result, Tom Riddle no longer answered any of his questions, only repeatedly asking when he would take him to the Chamber of Secrets, like a broken record.
Given this, Ivan no longer pretended. He hadn't taken any action against the Horcrux yet only because the other party still held the last piece of information he needed.
