Chapter 222: Unceasing Pursuit
Chapter 222: Unceasing Pursuit
"I don't know."
Pan Liang said bitterly, "I'm not lying to you. I really don't know who he is. He only sent me a text message, and the number was encrypted. He could contact me, but I couldn't contact him."
"Is that so? Where's your phone?"
"It's in the right pocket of my pants."
"Be honest."
After warning him, Jiang Cheng reached into the pocket and found a phone.
After getting the password, he unlocked the phone.
He clicked on the text messages.
Sure enough, the latest message was the one he received when he left the martial hall, and it described his attire.
"So, that guy was nearby, watching me as I walked out."
Jiang Cheng squinted his eyes, a chill running down his back.
"Yes, that's what I think too, but his identity is very secretive. Only the people above me know."
Jiang Cheng looked at him but swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
After all, the people above him weren't fools and wouldn't reveal such important information.
"Brother, I've said everything I can. If you want to kill me, just do it quickly. Don't torture me."
Pan Liang pleaded, "If you agree, I can give you one more hint."
"What hint?"
"Anyone on our Bloodhand Society's hit list won't stop until the employer cancels the task. Even if you're from the Dawn Society, it won't stop."
"So, finding the employer will solve it?"
"Yes, but the Bloodhand Society won't betray an employer. Otherwise, how would we get future contracts?"
Pan Liang looked at Jiang Cheng, as if he could see through everything.
Actually, he wasn't.
He knew he wouldn't survive, so he was being cooperative.
But deep down, he strongly hoped to see Jiang Cheng killed by the Bloodhand Society's subsequent assassins.
But he couldn't say that; it would only bring him more pain.
"Is that so? It might not be that hard."
Jiang Cheng said, firing several shots at him, one hitting his heart.
Pan Liang's eyes quickly lost their luster, and he fell to the ground.
Jiang Cheng's expression remained grim.
Killing a Tier 3 strength assassin wouldn't change much.
He couldn't fight an entire assassination organization alone.
Especially with an insider in the organization.
Eliminating this one would only bring another, and another, until he was killed.
As for the employer, it was most likely the master of the Gale Martial Arts Academy. Otherwise, why would assassins find him the next day?
If he had enough strength now, he could charge over, beat the master, and get the task canceled. But his strength wasn't enough.
He moment.
, he would die too.
.
, not fast enough.
.
.
.
So, he could only report the situation to the society and have them warn the other side.
After all, he got into this trouble because of a task from the society. Ice Force and the others couldn't just stand by.
As for the person on the ground, he couldn't be left alive.
If left, he would expose his strength during interrogation.
In the next moment, he took out his phone and called Ice Force.
"It's the Sea of Stars. So late, what's up? Don't tell me you've broken through again."
Ice Force laughed, his voice friendly, "Ice Force Brother, I've been chased by the Bloodhand Society.
"What? The Bloodhand Society?"
At this revelation, Bing Li's smile froze on his face.
"Canghai, what exactly happened?"
Jiang Cheng recounted the events, including the subsequent gunfight, and concluded, "Brother Bing Li, I believe the employer behind this is likely the Master of Gale Martial Arts Academy. Moreover, the assassin confessed before dying that there's an informant they planted within our Dawn Society."
"Highly likely."
Bing Li's expression turned solemn.
In fact, it was no secret that each of the three major organizations in the Outer Borough had their own informants.
This served a dual purpose: gathering information about the other organizations, such as their members, strength distribution, and mission directions, and also taking action against individuals with potential to prevent their growth.
The Bloodhand Society had done this, and so had the Dawn Society.
Therefore, regardless of which organization it was, they all had to rack their brains to find and eliminate these informants.
Just half a year ago, he had eliminated an exposed Bloodhand Society informant, and now, before he knew it, they had planted another one.
"Do you know who the informant is?"
"The assassin didn't know either, but there was a text message from them on his phone, with a description of my appearance and clothing. It seems that person was watching me leave, so we might find something by following this lead."
"Makes sense. By the way, is that assassin still alive?"
"He's dead. I was hoping to get more clues from him."
Jiang Cheng's tone carried a hint of helplessness.
"What a pity."
Bing Li sighed, but even if the assassin were still alive, he wouldn't have held out much hope.
According to Jiang Cheng, the opponent was only a second or third-rank Primordial Energy Warrior, and at that level, they wouldn't have access to much information.
"Alright, where are you? I'll bring people over immediately, retrieve the body, and investigate. We might find something."
Jiang Cheng promptly provided the address.
After hanging up the call, his gaze fell upon the gauntlets on the corpse's hands.
His intuition told him this was definitely a valuable item.
Most likely, it was the alloy weapon Nightinggale had mentioned.
If he waited for Bentley and the others to arrive, this item might be taken away, or it might be left behind. Either way, he decided to hide it first.
Later, whether he used it himself or sold it at a black market auction, it would be fine.
Hiding the gauntlets on his person, a few minutes later, several people rushed over, with Bing Li at the forefront.
"Are you injured?" Bing Li asked.
"I'm fine," Jiang Cheng replied with a smile.
He handed over the assassin's phone.
Bing Li looked at the text messages, nodding.
"Okay, I understand. I'll conduct a thorough search and find the informant."
His eyes gleamed with murderous intent.
The longer the opponent remained hidden, the greater the damage to the Dawn Society.
And who knows, the enemy might even set their sights on him.
"By the way, Brother Bing Li, I think the one who gave the Bloodhand Society this task is the Master of Gale Martial Arts Academy. I wonder if we can warn him to call off the pursuit. After all, I'm just a second-rank Primordial Energy Warrior, and I can't keep hiding forever," Jiang Cheng said with a bitter smile.
With the informant still within their ranks, he didn't plan on going to the headquarters anytime soon.
After all, the opponent had only sent a third-rank Primordial Energy Warrior this time; next time, it might be a fourth, fifth, or even sixth-rank warrior.
