Chapter 222: The Iron Dragon Palace
As the magical aura flickered, Lanpu’s grotesque face reappeared in the mirror’s surface, his eyes alight with the glee of a bountiful harvest.
"Master, you’ve arrived just in time."
"This quarter, we thoroughly scoured the vaults of the Tower of Eternal Night. From the ruins, we uncovered over a hundred Spell Scrolls—among them, a single Nine-Ring Spell, two Eighth-Level Spells, three Seventh-Circle Spells, five Sixth-Circle Spells, and eleven Fifth-Level Spells. The vast majority were Necromancy and Enchantment-type incantations. As for the lower-tier spells, they were countless."
Lanpu retrieved a scroll from his subordinate, slipped on his Golden-Rimmed Glasses, and continued reading:
"The sole Nine-Ring Spell was Wagner’s final incantation—[Star of the King Slayer Phantom]—sealed deep beneath the Tall Tower, guarded by a labyrinth of deadly Necromancy spells. It took us dozens of lives to extract it. Given the gravity of such a relic, I dared not make any decisions without your orders. As instructed, I have sealed it once more as a forbidden artifact and prepared it for transport to your Treasure Vault."
"Additionally, we recovered hundreds of Dragon Vein Experiment Subjects, along with vast troves of experimental data. Wagner’s mastery over Dragon bloodline research was unparalleled. These past few days, I’ve worked without rest, summarizing key insights from these classified materials and sealing them within the Kingdom’s Knowledge Archive."
"Kingdom spellcasters are still analyzing the findings. It will take three to five years before we fully absorb all the research breakthroughs."
"This quarter, the Kingdom of Ashen has seen growing social stability and steady economic recovery. Tax revenue reached fifty-two thousand."
Cannibal Magician adjusted his glasses, voice soaring with excitement, nearly drowning in a flood of information.
"And—"
Kai Xiusu was already on the verge of yawning. Despite his Intelligence having reached 16, the sheer volume of data poured upon him was overwhelming. As a naturally slothful Red Dragon, he was far more accustomed to delegating the tedious affairs of governance to his subordinates.
He cut Lanpu off sharply.
"Summarize all of this. Deliver it to me in written report form within a few days. No need to waste my time here."
"Yes, I understand."
Sensing the Red Dragon’s impatience, Lanpu immediately fell silent, bowing respectfully.
"I summoned you not for these trivial matters," Kai Xiusu said.
"Awo?"
A head poked out from beside the Red Dragon—Tinia, curious, gazing at the image in the Magic Mirror.
The sight of the White Dragon froze Lanpu’s expression. His face drained of color. He instantly understood the true purpose behind this summons.
This White Dragon had caused him no small trouble. A True Dragon of noble blood, she was far too powerful for even a loyal follower of the Red Dragon to provoke. Yet as the kingdom’s chief minister, he bore responsibility—he couldn’t simply stand by while she wrecked construction projects. In the end, he had no choice but to encircle her with a Force Wall Spell, a compromise born of necessity.
Lanpu’s mind raced, instantly conjuring dozens of possible scenarios. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead.
After careful deliberation, he finally spoke, voice trembling with sincerity:
"Master, it is my failure. I have been unable to properly contain Lady Tinia. I was forced to bind her with magic. If you find this unsatisfactory, I—"
Kai Xiusu’s brow twitched. He interrupted again.
"I’m not here to scold you."
"Then… what do you wish?" Lanpu fumbled for his golden-thread handkerchief, wiping the sweat from his brow.
Kai Xiusu gave a subtle glance toward Tinia. The White Dragon immediately understood, puffing out a small, triumphant gust of wind.
"Tinia possesses innate Spellcasting Ability," Kai Xiusu said. "I want you to teach her practical spells—Polymorph, Invisibility, and the like. And above all, the Fundamental Court Etiquette of the Kingdom."
Lanpu’s expression froze.
Silence stretched. Then, barely managing a strained smile, he stammered, "Lady Tinia has natural talent… but…"
For ten long years, the Dragonblood Ogre Mage had been grinding himself to dust trying to tame the so-called “bright minds” of his race. Now, he was faced with a far more stubborn, far more powerful White Dragon—someone he couldn’t fight, couldn’t scold, couldn’t even truly reason with. The pressure was suffocating.
"I will give my full effort," Lanpu said, forcing a smile so grim it looked like tears.
"By your command, I shall gather all the kingdom’s spellcasters regularly. We will pour every resource of the realm into her training. I will not fail your trust."
After a moment’s thought, Lanpu finally found a way to distribute the burden. He would not bear this torment alone. He handed the entire responsibility over to the kingdom’s collective spellcasting elite.
"Good," Kai Xiusu murmured, nodding slightly.
Beside him, Tinia remained utterly confused, watching the magical image with wide-eyed curiosity.
Then Kai Xiusu paused, as if remembering something.
"By the way, has my private palace been completed?"
He meant the Iron Dragon Wing Palace, located on the outskirts of the city. The Red Dragon had begun to feel the need to enter a deep slumber to process the strength of his Ancestral Dragon bloodline. Sleeping within Northwind Keep was too dangerous—accidentally, he might turn half the city into molten magma.
Lanpu replied, "We expended vast amounts of Faction Contribution, deployed over three hundred Stellarfallen, and deployed twenty-seven Frost Giant slaves. They’ve worked without rest. Aside from decorative details, the palace is essentially finished. Though… I must admit, the Stellarfallen have shown unusually high enthusiasm for taking on tasks lately."
Kai Xiusu thought to himself: Of course they do. The server’s closing soon—everyone’s trying to cash in one last time.
"Understood," Kai Xiusu said.
"Master, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll prepare my report now."
Lanpu bowed deeply, waiting until the Red Dragon had vanished from the mirror before severing the connection.
Kai Xiusu then strode out of the hall, leapt into the air, and soared toward the city’s edge. The White Dragon followed close behind.
Before him, the newly constructed Iron Dragon Wing Palace finally came into view.
Built into the mountainside, the palace stood magnificent and imposing. The main hall soared nearly thirty meters high, housing a massive Iron Throne. Flanking it were two equally grand annexes—wide, sweeping wings like those of a dragon.
Only the combined wealth of the Kingdom of Ashen, the immense strength of the Frost Giant slaves, and the wildly inventive methods of the players could have built such a structure in mere months.
Kai Xiusu even spotted several Crane Machines crafted by the Mechanical Cult—so vivid in design that for a moment, he wondered if he’d somehow returned to his original world.
But to Kai Xiusu, this palace was merely a façade. His true nest lay deep within the mountain—a warm, spacious cave, perfect for his long slumber.
Yet Tinia, beside him, fluttered her wings nervously. She sensed it—the familiar Arcane Pulse. The binding array. Wagner’s Dragon Binding Array. An Eighth-Level Spell, powerful enough to imprison her for a century.
It struck deep into her soul, triggering ancient fear.
And there, in the left annex, sat the Rune Array the "Gray Hawk" had never used—silent, dormant, waiting.
Kai Xiusu finally revealed his true intent.
He seized the White Dragon by the neck, ignoring her frantic struggles, and dragged her toward the Rune Array.
With a fierce grin, the Red Dragon slammed her head onto the inscribed circle.
"Still want to cause trouble? I’ll lock you away for another hundred years."
"Understand?"
"Awooo—!" Tinia flailed wildly, her panicked cry echoing through the halls.
