Chapter 222: The Green Field That Covered the Entire Mountain Forest
Chapter 222: The Green Field That Covered the Entire Mountain Forest
Naoki was startled when the tiny blacksmith suddenly fainted.
He quickly crouched down to examine the little Pokemon.
"There are signs of burns, and they're quite severe. It looks like the loss of fluid due to the burns has caused it to pass out."
Naoki noticed that the little blacksmith's body was still trembling slightly, and when he touched it, he found that it was ice cold.
"It's suffering from hypothermia!"
For a Pokemon, this was a dangerous situation.
When the loss of body heat exceeded the heat intake, if this state persisted, it could even be life-threatening for the Pokemon.
He had to warm it up quickly! Not just the tiny blacksmith, but Naoki also noticed that the Sentret and Hoothoot were shivering as well, probably due to being soaked in the river for an extended period.
Naoki was grateful that he had spent his free time reading up on Pokemon medicine.
He had intended to use this knowledge to treat the Pokemon on his ranch, but now it seemed more useful here.
With that in mind, Naoki picked up the tiny blacksmith and said to the others—Smeargle, the pair of Sentret, Hoothoot, and Electabuzz—"Follow me."
Seeing the Pokemon hesitate, his sister, Kishu, spoke to them in a gentle and caring tone, "Aye~"
The Pokemon, still in a state of shock, cautiously glanced at the human before them, hesitating for a few seconds before reluctantly following.
Naoki returned to the living room and took out a warm blanket to wrap around the tiny blacksmith. He then placed compressed wood into the fireplace and lit it.
Soon, the temperature in the room began to rise.
Naoki pointed to the fireplace, "Warm yourselves by the fire first."
This time, the Pokemon didn't resist. They gathered around the fireplace, basking in the warm flames, and their bodies gradually warmed up.
The Sentret even let out a contented squeak.
After applying burn medicine and healing spray to the tiny blacksmith, Naoki placed it by the fireplace as well.
In this warm environment, the Pokemon gradually relaxed.
However, their faces still bore traces of terror.
The events of the previous night had been terrifying; the fire had devoured everything familiar to them.
Pokemon from the forest had gathered, frantically fleeing the raging inferno.
Even Pokemon that usually fought each other had put aside their differences and fled together.
Some Water-type Pokemon had tried to douse the flames with Water Gun, but their efforts were futile against the mighty blaze.
Many Pokemon had fled with them, but along the way, falling trees had forced them to separate.
In the end, only this small group had made it, jumping into the river just as the fire was about to consume everything, and the current had washed them up here.
Naoki stood by, observing this scene, unsure of what these Pokemon had endured, but their expressions told him that it couldn't have been pleasant.
Golem and Kishu, along with the other Pokemon, looked at this group with sympathetic expressions.
At that moment, a strange "Gu-mo~ Gu-mo~" sound suddenly rang out.
Hearing this, the surrounding Pokemon turned their gazes to Electabuzz.
Electabuzz held its belly with its small hands, looking flustered.
Naoki was the first to realize what was happening.
The sound was not coming from Electabuzz; it was coming from its stomach—a clear indication that Electabuzz was hungry.
It was said that in Electabuzz's habitat, one could hear the chorus of "Gu-mo~ Gu-mo~" sounds every sunset.
Naoki realized that they hadn't eaten breakfast yet.
After ensuring that the tiny blacksmith was stable, he began preparing breakfast with his sister, Kishu.
His older brother, also named Kishu, stood by the fireplace, keeping watch over the wild Pokemon that had endured such a tragedy.
For some reason, these Pokemon reminded him of the abandoned Meowth back at the ranch.
After the events of the previous night, the other Pokemon weren't in the best of moods either.
Seeing this pitiful state, anyone would worry about the situation in the mountains.
Golem stood in the living room, scanning the group, and then offered words of comfort, "Ah-gar-si!" (With Naoki here, everything will be alright!)
It always had unconditional trust in Naoki.
Even though Golem was now a formidable Pokemon, in its heart, Naoki remained an all-powerful figure.
Upon hearing this, the Ice Eevee, Babo, and other Pokemon turned to look at Golem.
Seeing its dependable demeanor, they, too, were reassured and shifted their gazes to Naoki, who was busy cooking.
Naoki, focused on his task, hurriedly took out tree fruit, sandwiches, eggs, meat patties, and milk from the refrigerator.
He lit the stove and started frying eggs and meat patties, which he then added to the sandwiches. He juiced the tree fruit and mixed it with milk before heating it in the microwave.
Soon, a nutritious and delicious breakfast was ready.
Kishu helped distribute the food to everyone.
The Sentret, Hoothoot, Smeargle, and Electabuzz each received a thick sandwich and a cup of hot, fragrant milk.
The aroma of the food filled the room, touching the hearts of the hungry Pokemon. They looked at the human with gratitude.
Noticing their expressions, Naoki smiled and said, "Don't mention it. We all live in this place, so helping each other is only natural."
The warmth from the fire restored some of the Sentret's energy, and it wiped its tiny claws across its eyes before lowering its head to eat.
He didn't want to wake it, and after finishing his breakfast, Naoki was planning to go to the back mountain to see if he could find any other wild Pokemon in need of rescue.
However, he never expected that the Hoothoot and Sentret, upon hearing Naoki's plan, would insist on coming along.
Seeing this, Naoki asked Ai Guanshi and his sister to stay and look after the house and the little blacksmith, while he set off for the back mountain with the group of Pokemon.
The rain had just stopped, and the ground was still wet and muddy.
At first, the scenery on both sides of the road didn't seem too different, but as they ventured deeper into the back mountain, they were shocked to find that the place had completely transformed.
The once tall trees were now charred black and lay haphazardly on the ground, while the shrubs and grass had been reduced to ashes. The air was heavy with the damp smell of rainwater mixed with ash.
Hoothoot and Sentret looked at the desolate scene, tears silently streaming down their faces.
Sentret wailed in sadness, mourning the loss of its winter stash of hazelnuts and tree fruits, which it had diligently gathered throughout the autumn, now gone due to the fire. Smeargle wiped away its tears, feeling a sense of despair as it realized that its usual habitat had likely turned into ruins as well.
The mouse couple quietly wept, grateful that they had managed to escape the fire, or else they might have perished along with everything else.
Electabuzz, usually laid-back and relaxed, reacted a little slower, but as it took in the scene before it, its face fell, reflecting its despondent mood.
Golem and Ice Eevee felt a weight in their hearts as they witnessed the sorrow of their companions.
Babuto Bura couldn't help but think that if he had lived in this forest, he might also be homeless now, and the thought filled him with sadness.
Naoki's heart was heavy as well.
He remembered how not long ago, he had ridden his Mountain Goat into these mountains to gather produce.
Back then, the trees had been tall and lush, and the wind blowing through the forest had created a rustling sound that spread like waves into the distance.
Yellowed leaves had fallen from the treetops, layering the ground with a carpet of foliage that would eventually become nutrients for the soil, making the earth even more fertile the following year.
The nearby bushes had been home to many Pokemon, including Spinarak, Bean Cricket, Electroweb, and Caterpie.
But now, all of them were nowhere to be seen, their whereabouts unknown.
Naoki could only pray silently that they had sensed the impending danger and escaped to a safer place.
Seeing the crying Pokemon, Naoki spoke gently, "Don't cry. As long as you're still alive in this world, one day you will rebuild your homes. I, along with everyone else and the people from the town, will help you restore your homes."
The Pokemon felt a little better but were still very sad.
Naoki continued, "Let's search the area to see if there are any other Pokemon in need of help!"
"Ba Mo!"
Babuto Bura was the first to respond. With the red cape Naoki had prepared for him tied around his shoulders, he looked like a superhero as he flew through the ruins.
Naoki hoped that he could be a true superhero, bringing new hope to the Pokemon affected by this disaster.
Ice Eevee, Golem, Motoxizard, Mountain Goat, Olinny, Dragonite, Butterfree, Combee, two wild Dragonites, and five Hakuryu, whether they were Pokemon from the ranch or those who had stayed to help, were all dispatched by Naoki to join the search and rescue efforts.
Witnessing this, the grieving Hoothoot was moved.
Thinking of the Pokemon they had fled with the day before and the danger they might still be in, Hoothoot also volunteered to join the search and rescue operation.
Smeargle didn't say anything, but it, too, expressed its intentions through its actions.
It darted through the forest, its color-changing toxic saliva on its fingertips, using it to paint on the ground and the dead trees, trying to guide any Pokemon in need of help.
Naoki was deeply touched by this scene.
Even Pokemon that were usually hostile towards each other set aside their differences in the face of disaster and worked together to help one another.
Thanks to their combined efforts, they soon discovered the first Pokemon in need of assistance.
It was an injured Electroweb with a wounded wing, unable to fly.
It had taken refuge in a narrow cave, and by the time Babuto Bura led Naoki there, the Electroweb had already lost consciousness.
Naoki quickly pulled it out of the cave and carefully examined its injuries before applying burn spray and healing spray.
After entrusting the injured Electroweb to Naoki, Babuto Bura flew off again.
At that moment, the Electroweb woke up.
It looked a little dazed, as if it hadn't fully processed what was happening.
Naoki gently patted its small head and whispered, "Don't be afraid. Everything will be alright now."
The Electroweb seemed to realize that the human in front of it had saved its life, so it didn't struggle. Instead, it just stared at Naoki with wide eyes.
Naoki smiled softly and took out an Apple Wild Berry, placing it in front of the Electroweb. "Eat this. After you finish, get some rest, and everything will be fine."
The Electroweb didn't move.
Just as Naoki was about to say something, Golem rushed over, carrying an unconscious Lilligant.
Naoki: "..."
Golem tilted its head, confused: "Agar?"
"It's not a bad Pokemon, it's my partner, Golem," Naoki explained helplessly.
Hearing this, Electabuzz gradually calmed down.
Only then did Naoki focus on treating the injured Bulbasaur.
"Severe burns, extremely weak body... the situation is dire."
After a moment's thought, instead of using a healing spray, Naoki took out a bottle of fruit juice and milk and fed it to the Bulbasaur.
Compared to the healing sprays sold on the market, the ones he made were more effective and worked faster in healing injuries.
However, they were not convenient to carry, and Naoki had only brought a dozen or so bottles with him, intending to use them for Pokemon in critical condition.
As expected, after drinking the fruit juice and milk, the Bulbasaur slowly regained consciousness.
Naoki then used a burn spray on it.
With the Bulbasaur's condition stabilized, Naoki breathed a sigh of relief. He stayed with the Bulbasaur and Electabuzz, awaiting news about the other Pokemon.
He had thought that the search and rescue operation would go smoothly, but he never anticipated that Golem and the others would come back empty-handed after a long while.
"This won't do, we can't continue like this," Naoki said.
If they delayed too long, the severely injured Pokemon might lose their lives!
The most important thing now was to find a way to stabilize their injuries.
After some careful thought, Naoki instructed the other Pokemon to continue the search while he recalled his three Mountain Goats.
Looking at the three now fully grown and robust Mountain Goats, Naoki's expression turned solemn as he shared his plan with them.
"I need you to give it your all and use Grass Field to its fullest extent, just like how you used to do it back at the ranch, trying to cover as much area as possible."
The Grass Field move not only enhanced the power of Grass-type moves but, more importantly, it could restore the stamina of Pokemon on the ground!
"Can you do it?" Naoki asked.
The Mountain Goats, full of fighting spirit, replied with a determined "Meeeh!"
"Good," Naoki said gravely. "Then I'm counting on you. I'll make even better grass dishes for you when we get back."
"Meeeh~"
The Mountain Goats looked eager, and then, standing in a line, they stomped their front legs onto the ground.
The next second, an incredibly powerful light erupted from their bodies.
The vibrant green light sank into the earth, and as it flickered, the scorched ground sprouted with illusory, crystal-like blades of grass.
In an instant, a green ocean engulfed the entire land, spreading rapidly and enveloping the entire mountain forest in its verdant embrace.
Naoki stared at this scene, astonished.
During the time he hadn't been paying much attention, it seemed that his Mountain Goats had become even stronger.
On the other side of the mountain forest, the rescue team composed of the fire brigade, Miss Junsha, and Nurse Joy was swiftly navigating the area, tending to injured Pokemon.
A Growlithe lowered its body, its nose quivering as it searched for injured Pokemon by scent.
Suddenly, as if it had sensed something, it lifted its head and looked into the distance.
"Ruff ruff!"
Hearing Growlithe's bark, Miss Junsha looked down at it and asked, "Did you find something?"
Before Growlithe could answer, one of the firefighters beside them exclaimed in surprise.
"Look over there! What is that?"
Everyone immediately looked up.
The next moment, they saw a green light spreading towards them from the distant horizon.
Soon, the light reached their feet, and in an instant, they witnessed countless blades of grass sprouting from the scorched earth, swaying gently.
"What is this?" Miss Junsha was taken aback.
Nurse Joy, quick to recover, exclaimed, "Grass Field! It's a Grass Field that can restore Pokemon's stamina! Someone is helping these Pokemon!"
As a Pokemon doctor, she was the first to realize that someone was trying to use Grass Field to sustain the injured Pokemon.
The fire captain's eyes widened in disbelief. "Is this really the Grass Field I know? No way..."
There's no way a Grass Field could be this dramatic! Its coverage area is just too vast!
Miss Junsha was equally shocked. "What kind of Pokemon could do this..."
This range... a Pokemon Master, or perhaps a Pokemon Champion? But there wasn't any famous Grass-type Pokemon Champion in the Padia region!
Who could it be?
Everyone present was astonished by this display.
Nurse Joy stared at the familiar scene, trying to recall where she had seen something like this before.
Where could it have been? Nurse Joy racked her brains.
Soon, an image flashed into her mind.
It was a ranch, where three Mountain Goats were kept, and they would use Grass Field and then leap and prance in the grassy field, as if they were dancing.
And the owner of that ranch was...
"It's Mr. Naoki!" Nurse Joy exclaimed in delight. "It's Mr. Naoki's Mountain Goats! I've seen them at Naoki Ranch before!"
What?!
Everyone was stunned, their faces filled with shock.
How could this be possible?!
Could it be that the farmer they knew was actually a Pokemon Master who had been living in seclusion in Chushin Town?!
