Chapter 222: The Chamber of Secrets and Parseltongue
Chapter 222: The Chamber of Secrets and Parseltongue
Unfortunately, the jar was only so big, and it wasn't long before it was filled with the black mist.
The spider inside the jar had nowhere to run and was quickly consumed by the black mist. When everything returned to normal, only a shriveled, empty shell remained in the jar.
Ivan watched this all silently, his left hand gently turning the ring that could release Fiendfyre, while his right hand gripped his wand, ready to deal with any unexpected situations.
In his estimation, the life force of one spider wouldn't restore much of Tom's power. In the original timeline, Tom, who absorbed Ginny's life force, couldn't even cast a spell.
This was why Ivan dared to take this risk. Making preparations was just a precaution.
After the spider was completely drained, the Diary released more black mist, and in the illusory space, Tom Riddle's figure appeared once again.
"Tom, are you alright?" Ivan looked at Tom, who was dressed in a Slytherin robe, and felt that he seemed more solid than before.
"Thank you for your trust, Hals. I've recovered a bit of my previous consumption, which is why I can meet with you again, though it will probably only last for about an hour", Tom Riddle said with a slight smile, pausing for a moment before continuing.
"How did it go? Did you get the book? My magic didn't cause you any trouble, did it?"
"A Confundus Charm and an unknown spell to hide things, right? It did take me some time", Ivan said resentfully.
He couldn't help but think back to the previous year when, guided by the system, he searched for *Origin of Bloodlines*. If it weren't for his luck in finding a Dark Magic book that happened to break Tom's Confundus Charm, who knows how long it would have taken him.
"You moved faster than I expected. I thought it would take you at least two or three days to break the spells I set", Tom said, surprised. The Confundus Charm was something he had carefully crafted, and it was set up very cleverly.
Most people wouldn't have noticed anything amiss even if they stood there with their eyes wide open, looking carefully. Tom had even considered the possibility that Ivan wouldn't be able to break it and would come back for help.
But Ivan managed to break it in less than a day, which made Tom increasingly wary of the young wizard in front of him.
"I've read the book, and it's just as you said—the most crucial parts have been torn out, making it look like a boring history book", Ivan said, shaking his head in disappointment.
"As I said before, that was probably the work of your Headmaster, Dumbledore", Tom's lips curved into a slight smile as he continued to reassure him.
"But you don't need to worry. When I was at school, I spent a lot of time trying to piece together most of the content and stored this information in a Chamber of Secrets! It just needs Parseltongue to open it."
You're that kind-hearted?
Ivan rolled his eyes; he didn't believe for a second that Tom would be so benevolent.
More likely, Tom was trying to lure him into the Chamber of Secrets to get rid of him.
He knew that the Chamber of Secrets contained only a Basilisk that could kill anyone with a single glance. If he entered the Chamber with a Horcrux, he would surely meet a bad end.
Just as Ivan was thinking this, he noticed that the progress of the Bloodline Mystery task increased to thirty percent the moment Tom Riddle mentioned the Chamber of Secrets.
Ivan was stunned. This meant that the Chamber of Secrets likely held the method for fusing multiple bloodlines, or at the very least, the corresponding clues.
"What's wrong, Hals?" Tom Riddle asked, puzzled.
"Nothing, just wondering why there's a Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts that can only be opened with Parseltongue. Was it something you created, Tom?" Ivan changed the subject.
"Of course not, I don't have the ability to create a Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts!" Tom shook his head and explained.
"It was Salazar Slytherin. He built it specifically for experimenting and researching bloodline fusion."
Ivan subconsciously thought Tom was trying to deceive him, but he quickly realized that this was a real possibility.
If *Origin of Bloodlines* was indeed written by Salazar Slytherin, it meant that Slytherin was deeply knowledgeable about this field and likely conducted research in it.
Creating a dedicated space for research was perfectly normal, and the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets could be either a guardian of the place or a subject of study.
The Forbidden Forest was home to countless rare and magical creatures. Could they have been kept there for the sake of research?
Various thoughts raced through Ivan's mind. He remembered that the symbol of Slytherin House was a snake.
Voldemort, as a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, was born with the ability to speak Parseltongue. This clear hereditary trait might have been the result of Salazar Slytherin fusing Basilisk blood and passing this power down.
While Ivan was thinking, Tom Riddle continued.
"In any case, I've stored everything in the Chamber of Secrets. It's absolutely safe, even Dumbledore can't find it. All you need is Parseltongue to open it!"
"Since you've told me so much, you'll teach me Parseltongue, right? Tom, we're the best of friends!" Ivan said hopefully.
"Of course, I'd be willing to teach you, but Parseltongue isn't something anyone can master", Tom Riddle replied arrogantly.
Tom Riddle was about to suggest that he could take Ivan inside to solve the problem, but Ivan interrupted him first.
"Is Parseltongue really that difficult? I might be able to learn it. I've mastered many advanced spells in just a short time."
"Parseltongue is different", Tom Riddle frowned, but seeing Ivan's determined look, he realized Ivan wouldn't give up until he tried. So, he patiently taught him a few times.
Sssss~
As Tom spoke in Parseltongue, Ivan immediately activated the learning acceleration mode of his experience card. He could vaguely sense that Parseltongue contained magic, vibrating at a peculiar frequency and affecting the entire Dark Mist Space.
Ivan had a lead and understood why Parseltongue was so difficult to learn. He tried to recall everything he had just perceived and attempted to mimic it. The system's prompt sounded in his mind.
"Need me to teach you again?" Tom Riddle said impatiently, not wanting to waste time on this.
But Tom Riddle's expression quickly changed.
Because the Dark Mist Space was filled with the strange Parseltongue again, albeit a bit clumsy, but Tom Riddle was certain it was Parseltongue.
