Chapter 222: Lanchi's First Military Academy Students Take Their Seats
Chapter 222: Lanchi's First Military Academy Students Take Their Seats
The sky was overcast, with thick clouds blocking out the sun, and the Knight's Court arena was filled with damp, oppressive air. In the distance, the occasional low rumble of thunder echoed across the vast battle platform.
Kuse approached, his footsteps heavy and menacing, as he drew closer to Lanchi.
Without hesitation, Hyberrian positioned herself in front of Lanchi, her gaze fixed on Kuse with caution. Should he make any hostile move, she would not hold back, regardless of her role as a student council member, and would treat him as an enemy.
Noticing Hyberrian, Kuse paused in his tracks.
"What's this? You've got quite the figure and body." Kuse's eyes roamed up and down Hyberrian, who stood protectively in front of Lanchi, his gaze unashamedly lewd as he spoke with suggestive intent.
"..." Hyberrian's eyes turned cold.
"Oh, right. Aren't you the daughter of Duke Migaya?" Kuse seemed to have noticed something, and his tone became even more flippant as he continued, "I don't mind, since no one wants a dirty girl like you anyway. Why don't you come with me back to the Kingdom of Yiluo Lan? I'll show you just how powerful humans can be." He finished with a loud laugh.
His contemptuous words seemed designed to provoke Hyberrian into making the first move.
That way, no matter how she retaliated, he could claim that he was not responsible for his actions.
"The Royal Academy of Yiluo Lan really has an all-star lineup..." Even Hyberrian, usually known for her good temper, had veins popping on her forehead in anger.
Phoenix, Karen, and now Kuse—each one was a heavyweight.
Compared to them, Adams was a rare normal person, looking gentle and refined.
Hyberrian struggled to suppress her anger.
She was accustomed to the malice of others.
Her priority now was to focus on protecting Lanchi.
After Kuse's words, Lanchi and Fred remained silent for a moment.
They both had a high tolerance for provocative words.
However, the prerequisite was that the ridicule was directed at them.
They didn't care what others said about them.
But Hyberrian had done nothing wrong, and she was the only one in the team who didn't deserve to be maligned.
Finally—
"Hyberrian, I think I might understand a little now what you meant by the importance of winning and losing," Lanchi said, his expression as calm as ever.
Yet, there was something unusual about his eyes, a hint of an unfamiliar gleam.
He smiled slightly as he looked at Kuse.
That momentary stare made Kuse hesitate.
He couldn't quite grasp the change that had come over this seemingly harmless guy, and it made him wary.
"What are you babbling about? You're no different from those fighters, needing a woman to protect you." Kuse soon resumed his stride, unconcerned by the bluff he was facing. He had decided to test this boy's mettle today!
"Don't move another step." Fred, who had been silent until now, raised his left hand, aiming a handheld crossbow at Kuse's brow, while his right hand held three portable magic bombs, his warning icy and deadly.
"!"
Not just Kuse, but even the fighters behind him, took a step back instinctively.
"You bastard!!!" These fighters could gauge Fred's strength.
In a fair fight, they wouldn't fear this fifth-rank guy, but the weapons he held were a different story. Unbound by rules, he was like a terrorist, uncaring of honor or the spirit of martial arts!
The standoff lasted for several seconds.
"Tsk, I'll let you off for now." Kuse sneered, pointing at the badly injured Ikeli Te Academy fighters on the ground. "But come the official public trial in two days, let's see how you'll protect those soft-boiled eggs then.
"
The group of fighters turned around and, led by Kuse, strode out of the arena. Their figures soon disappeared from view.
Heavy clouds drifted across the sky, and the cold wind made the battle platform of the Knight's Court exceptionally desolate, as if it could start raining at any moment.
"Who does he think he is?!"
Hyberrian stamped her foot in anger, her entire mood ruined.
While most students from the Yiluo Lan Royal Academy were polite, there were still people like Kuse who were detestable no matter where they went.
She looked at Lanchi, truly envious of his outwardly warm yet inwardly indifferent personality and mindset. No matter how others mocked him, he always remained calm and composed. Right now, he would probably just smile and comfort her with a few words, then act as if nothing had happened.
"It's alright."
Lanchi reached out and patted Hyberrian's head before walking towards the injured fighters.
"?"
Hyberrian stood motionless, her hand unconsciously reaching up to touch her hair.
This was the first time, in her memory, that Lanchi had touched her.
Lanchi stopped in front of the group of fighters, standing tall in the empty arena.
"Do you want to win?"
Lanchi, his collar straight and suit immaculate, looked at the disheveled fighters on the ground and asked.
"We can't win... There's no hope."
"They're right..."
"Without Big Sister Zirveyni, we're just useless trash!"
The burly men had lost all their spirit, their eyes dull and lifeless. After two cruel blows, they had finally come to accept reality.
"Even if Zirveyni ends up being surrounded, humiliated, and badly injured by that group, to the point where she has to be hospitalized and misses the Falkao, are you fine with that?"
Lanchi's words were gentle.
But they were like a spell, echoing in the fighters' ears, refusing to dissipate.
"!!!"
Hearing this, they clenched their teeth tightly.
Tears uncontrollably slid down their faces.
They knelt on the ground, pounding their fists.
"If Kuse plays dirty... Zirveyni is still a girl, after all. What if she's beaten by Kuse but refuses to admit defeat? Can you imagine what kind of scene that would be?"
Lanchi's words were soft, as if he were narrating a predetermined story.
"Can you imagine the scene in your mind? Do you want to see it become a reality?"
"No!!!!"
"Don't want to!!!!"
These words alone were enough to make their minds uncontrollably fill with frame after frame of images, as if their hearts were being torn apart, causing them to howl in anguish.
Their eyes were filled with bloodshot cracks, as if they wanted to tear Kuse limb from limb.
Lanchi paused, letting his words sink in.
When the howls and wails gradually subsided and the eyes filled with tears and blood fixed their gaze on him, he spoke again.
"If I can give you a way to defeat Kuse with your own strength, but it requires a certain price, are you willing to pay it?"
Lanchi asked again.
"Willing!!!"
"Even if it means facing death and then being reborn, are you still willing?"
"No matter the cost, we're willing!!! Help us, Lanchi!!!"
Their hoarse shouts were accompanied by angry tears.
At this point, a slight smile finally appeared on Lanchi's face.
He bent down and placed his hand affectionately on the vice-captain's shoulder.
"Then, let me grant your wish."
Lanchi whispered.
Hyberrian, standing beside him, widened her eyes. Seeing Lanchi's understanding of the importance of victory and defeat, she felt a growing sense of foreboding.
To her, Lanchi was always reliable, and she had no doubt that he would stand up for her. However, the problem was that sometimes this guy could be a little too reliable!
