Chapter 222: Cangling Debate of Swords (30)
Chapter 222: Cangling Debate of Swords (30)
Feng Bu Jue and the two beauties continued walking across the plains. The scenery ahead remained unchanged—endless green grasslands, flat terrain, and distant mountains faintly visible in the horizon. No matter how far they walked, the mountains never seemed to draw closer.
When Feng Bu Jue glanced back, he realized he could still see the Lingzhong Stele, its three carved characters "Lingzhong Realm" clearly visible.
"We need to go back", Feng Bu Jue suddenly said, halting his steps after walking further.
"Aren't we already looking for the way back?" Lu Qingning retorted. She assumed Feng Bu Jue meant returning to Cangling Town, which struck her as a pointless statement.
Lu Qingning had arrived earlier than Feng Bu Jue and Si Yu. She had entered this realm in the early hours of the previous night and spent over three hours navigating its terrain. By human standards, she had effectively stayed awake all night, enduring both pursuit and relentless travel. Exhaustion gnawed at her, fraying her temper.
"I mean... back to the Lingzhong Stele", Feng Bu Jue clarified.
Lu Qingning turned around. "There's nothing there. Why would we go back?" She already knew they couldn't escape the stele's presence, having examined it thoroughly upon her arrival.
When Feng Bu Jue and Si Yu first entered the Lingzhong Realm, they had appeared near the same coordinates as Lu Qingning. But after walking for hours, she noticed the distance to the stele never changed. She had stopped multiple times to rest, even returning to study the stele again, but found nothing useful. Eventually, she pressed forward across the plains. On her Nth glance back, she finally noticed something unusual—two distant figures.
"The Lingzhong Stele is the only reference point we can actually reach", Feng Bu Jue explained. "Since we're stuck..."
"Reference point?" Lu Qingning repeated, frowning. Clearly, the term baffled her.
"It's an object used to determine if another object is moving", Feng Bu Jue said.
"Huh?" Lu Qingning's confusion deepened.
"Ugh... I'll explain when we get there", Feng Bu Jue gave up.
Though unsatisfied, Lu Qingning had no better ideas. Assuming Feng Bu Jue and Si Yu would stick together, she had no choice but to follow.
Returning to the Lingzhong Stele took little time. Each step brought them visibly closer, unlike their earlier futile march.
Standing beneath the towering stele, Feng Bu Jue asked, "Lu Qingning, have you tried staring at the stele while walking backward?"
Her eyes lit up. "Right! Using that method..." She paused, then frowned. "Wait, why did we come back? We should've tried that earlier when we were farther away!"
"I tried it. It doesn't work", Feng Bu Jue cut in, dousing her hope.
Lu Qingning bristled. "Teahouse Master Feng, are you mocking me? You tried it already but still asked me? Why speak in riddles?"
"Miss Lu, don't be angry", Si Yu interjected, smoothing tensions. "He often teases people like this. There's no malice."
"From an experimental perspective", Feng Bu Jue continued, "a single action's results aren't 100% reliable. I wanted to confirm with you."
"I don't understand half of what you say", Lu Qingning muttered.
"Never mind. It's not important", Feng Bu Jue shifted gears. "The key point is this 'inability to move away' is a clear hint—we're going the wrong way."
"The wrong way?" Lu Qingning echoed, instinctively glancing toward the steep, mist-shrouded valley below.
"The Lingzhong Stele acts like a boundary marker", Feng Bu Jue turned, arm sweeping forward in a slashing motion. "This line divides the realms." He faced the endless sea of clouds beyond. "We're still at the entrance to the Lingzhong Realm." Palm outstretched, he gestured ahead. "Which side do you think is the true Lingzhong Realm? This one?" He turned back, pointing at the plains behind them. "Or that one?"
"You're mad! Even if this isn't a ten-thousand-foot abyss, it's certainly hundreds of feet deep. Jumping down would be suicide!" Lu Qingning exclaimed.
Feng Bu Jue ignored her, continuing, "When we first entered, we stood on the boundary line. We assumed the plains were the 'path' compared to the cliff and mist behind us. But in reality, the plains are an endless dead end. Once you move far enough from the Lingzhong Stele, it stops appearing farther away—meaning you're stuck in place no matter how much you walk."
"Then how do we proceed?" Si Yu cut to the core.
"What method? Even if I had ropes..." Feng Bu Jue stepped closer, peering into the impenetrable mist, "how long would the rope need to be to descend here?"
This was true. For players, the elevation difference here was like an ant standing on a washing machine's curved edge. Though not perfectly vertical, the drop was awe-inspiring from an ant's perspective.
"Sigh... Teahouse Master Feng, what exactly are you planning?" Lu Qingning sighed, collapsing onto the grass. Even a lightness expert couldn't endure a sleepless day, endless travel, and no food without breaking down.
Feng Bu Jue answered decisively: "Leap of Faith."
The phrase left Lu Qingning puzzled, her expression mixing confusion and reluctant admiration.
Si Yu, however, fixed Feng Bu Jue with her usual icy stare, which slowly morphed into disdain. Finally, she mocked, "Planning to make me a widow in some fancy, stylish way?"
Thick-skinned as ever, Feng Bu Jue remained unfazed. "Hehe... Don't worry, dear wife. Watch me try first." He stepped forward. "Oh, and if the system doesn't announce my death within five minutes, consider following down."
