Chapter 221: Ruthless Actions, Ma Gu Strikes
“Who are you people? How dare you interfere with our Liu Yun Zong business?” The gray-clad man narrowed his eyes, his voice cold and menacing as he stared at the carriage.
He wasn’t a fool. Though he hadn’t seen how his arrow had been deflected, he knew this Imperial Road held no other travelers—only the carriage ahead. And he’d clearly heard the little girl on the carriage call out, “Zhao Jie Jie.”
Clearly, these people were acquainted with the girl before them. So as he spoke, he subtly signaled his subordinates, who began to creep forward in a slow, tightening encirclement.
Lu Qing and the others had seen the man’s gesture, but they didn’t react. Ma Gu, without hesitation, rushed to Zhao Qianlin’s side, where she lay exhausted and collapsed.
“Zhao Miss, are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” Zhao Qianlin said, her face a mix of relief and dread. “You shouldn’t have saved me… these are Liu Yun Zong disciples hunting us. You’ve put yourselves in danger by helping me!”
“It’s alright. You’re still injured. Let me help you to the carriage—my master will examine you.”
Ma Gu remained calm, gently lifting Zhao Qianlin and walking her toward the carriage.
“You’re asking for death!” The gray-clad man snarled. Seeing them not only ignore him but dare to drag the girl away in front of him, fury surged through him. Without another word, he drew his bow again and loosed an arrow straight at Ma Gu’s back.
Clang!
Ma Gu didn’t move. With one hand supporting Zhao Qianlin, the other had already drawn his sword—swift and precise. The blade sliced through the air, deflecting the arrow mid-flight.
“Hmph?” The man’s gaze sharpened. He could sense Ma Gu’s cultivation level—only Jin Gu Jing, not even close to his own. Yet his sword technique was astonishingly refined. Only such skill could so effortlessly dismantle his arrow.
Without pause, Ma Gu turned and guided Zhao Qianlin back to the carriage.
“Chen Laodaifu, Lu Gongzi,” Zhao Qianlin murmured, her heart filled with gratitude and shame. Just this morning, they’d left with confidence, certain they’d be safe. And now—only hours later—they were rescued again by Old Doctor and the others. But this time, their saviors would face Liu Yun Zong’s wrath.
“Don’t speak,” Old Doctor said firmly, halting her attempt to bow in thanks. He began examining her wounds.
After a thorough check, he found three deep cuts—one on her waist, one on her abdomen, and another on her shoulder. Each was deep enough to expose bone. That she’d managed to run all the way here before collapsing was nothing short of miraculous.
“First, take this Blood-Enhancing Pill,” Old Doctor said, pressing a small pill into her mouth. Then he turned to Xiao Yan. “Xiao Yan, help Zhao Jie Jie inside. Use Golden Wound Medicine to bandage her wounds.”
Zhao Qianlin was a woman, and Lu Qing’s group couldn’t assist with medical care. Fortunately, Xiao Yan had spent the past two years learning healing arts from Old Doctor and knew basic wound dressing.
“Got it!” Xiao Yan chirped, stepping forward to help.
“Chen Laodaifu, please, you must leave! These people are merciless! Half the villagers were slaughtered earlier—this is no human act. They’re beasts, monsters…” Zhao Qianlin cried, her voice trembling with grief.
Old Doctor cut her off. “You said… half the villagers were killed?”
“Yes!” Zhao Qianlin sobbed. “We arrived at the town this morning to restock supplies. But we found Liu Yun Zong disciples causing chaos. Master had us hide, waiting for them to leave. But then, one vendor complained about a minor issue—and they didn’t just destroy his stall. They slaughtered the entire family. Even children weren’t spared. Da Shi Senior Brother couldn’t bear it and stepped out to fight. We were no match. They captured Master and the others. Only I escaped, thanks to Master’s final sacrifice—creating a gap in their ranks. Old Doctor… these are devils. Once they started killing, they began looting. Anyone who resisted was cut down instantly—brutal beyond belief!”
As Zhao Qianlin wept, Old Doctor’s expression darkened, his face hardening like iron.
Lu Qing glanced at him. He knew—Master was truly enraged.
He gently nudged his sister. “Xiao Yan, take Zhao Jie Jie inside and treat her wounds.”
Zhao Qianlin opened her mouth to protest, but when she met Lu Qing’s eyes, something in her shifted. All words vanished. She nodded silently and followed Xiao Yan into the carriage.
“Sir,” Old Doctor turned to the advancing gray-clad man, “did Zhao Miss speak the truth? Were half the townspeople truly killed?”
“And if they were?” The man smirked, now confident. His men had fully surrounded the carriage. There was no escape. “I see you’re just a few weaklings. That big man with the sword—only Jin Gu Jing. The old man? No cultivation at all. The girl? Just a child. The other youth—barely past Qi Xue Jing. The only one with real strength is the one with the iron rod. But two Jin Gu Jing and a bunch of old, sickly people—how dare you interfere with Liu Yun Zong?”
A cold, murderous glint filled his eyes. He was already imagining how he’d torture them before killing.
“Hear this,” Old Doctor said, voice low and steady. “I’ve heard Liu Yun Zong is a renowned sect in Yun Zhou. Why would you commit such atrocities—stealing wealth, slaughtering entire families? Isn’t this going too far?”
“The affairs of Liu Yun Zong are none of your concern,” the man sneered. “Old man, if you know our name, you must be desperate for death. Take them! Don’t kill them yet—tie them up. I want to enjoy every moment of their suffering!”
“Yes, Elder!” The Liu Yun Zong disciples grinned, their eyes gleaming with cruelty. They charged forward, weapons drawn.
“You’re asking for death!” Ma Gu roared, eyes blazing. His War Blade flashed from its sheath as his body erupted with a surge of Qi. One step forward—and he unleashed a sweeping strike, Crossing the Thousand Armies.
Boom!
The sheer force of his blade sent the attacking disciples flying back, scattering like leaves in a storm. One strike—ten men thrown back. Ma Gu’s spirit surged. With another step, he swung again, this time aiming straight at a fleeing disciple.
With the power of Splitting the Mountain, he brought his blade down in a crushing arc.
The Liu Yun Zong disciple screamed in terror. All he could do was raise his weapon. The next instant, his body convulsed violently—he spat blood, then was cleaved clean in half, flying backward through the air.
One enemy down. Ma Gu didn’t stop. He shot forward like a bullet, charging straight at the remaining disciples.
He intended to fight them all—alone.
This sight left Wei Zian trembling with excitement. Even Zhao Qianlin, who had peeked out from the carriage curtain at the commotion, stared in stunned silence.
