Chapter 221: Legilimency
Chapter 221: Legilimency (Five Updates)
The Sorting Ceremony followed the same procedure as last year, with the only difference being that a new batch of young wizards was being sorted.
Ron's sister was naturally sorted into Gryffindor and sat next to her idol, Harry. Meanwhile, Slytherin welcomed a new group of young wizards.
At the Opening Feast, Dumbledore formally introduced Lupin, but the applause was tepid, largely due to Lupin's attire.
Our Slytherin Head of House, Snape, nearly shot fire from his eyes when he saw Lupin. Clearly, he had not expected Dumbledore to appoint Lupin as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Jerry could only apologize for this turn of events. He hadn't anticipated that dismissing the incompetent Lockhart would result in Lupin's arrival.
However, Lupin was at least competent, which was a significant improvement over Lockhart.
As for the possibility of Lupin transforming into a werewolf during the full moon, Jerry found it rather amusing. Given Lupin's thin, frail werewolf form, Jerry, with his superior physical strength, could easily overpower him without using magic.
After the feast, Jerry returned to the Slytherin dormitory with the other young wizards. After a brief chat, the exhausted Draco and his friends fell asleep on their beds.
Half an hour later, Jerry slowly opened his eyes, took Voldemort's diary, and cast a Disillusionment Charm on himself before quietly leaving the dormitory.
He carefully made his way down the grand marble staircase to the second floor and soon found the long-abandoned girls' bathroom.
"Petrify!"
Finding Myrtle crouching in the toilet, Jerry, still invisible, cast a Full Body Bind Curse, immobilizing her in place.
Myrtle was a student killed by Voldemort during his first opening of the Chamber of Secrets decades ago. She had since become a ghost, residing in the second-floor girls' bathroom.
Ghosts could be affected by magic, as Nearly Headless Nick had been petrified by the Basilisk, though he couldn't die again since he was already dead.
After closing the bathroom door, Jerry approached the sink with the diary and wrote with a quill:
"I have come to the sink in the second-floor girls' bathroom as you requested. Where is the item you want me to find?"
Jerry had promised Voldemort that if he taught him how to shield the Trace, he would come to the second-floor girls' bathroom at the start of the school year. Jerry was a man of his word.
"Find the faucet with a small snake engraving!"
The diary responded with a line of text.
"Found it!"
Jerry circled the sink and quickly located the faucet Voldemort had described.
"Bring the diary close to the faucet."
Following the new instruction, Jerry held the diary with his left hand near the faucet, while his right hand secretly held a small orb.
"Hisss~"
The diary suddenly emitted a hissing sound like a snake.
Instantly, the faucet emitted a blinding white light and began to spin rapidly. The sink then started moving, and the view of it slowly disappeared, revealing a large pipe that could accommodate a person.
"Go in, the thing I want is inside!"
"You only said we were coming to the Second Floor Girls' Bathroom to get something, but you didn't say we had to enter this dark tunnel."
This time, Jerry didn't listen to Voldemort and stopped in his tracks.
"What are your conditions, then?"
Voldemort was very smart. He knew that if Jerry hadn't turned and walked away, there was room for negotiation.
Jerry's lips curled into a smile as he wrote:
"I've heard of a very special Magic that can read people's thoughts and study their minds. If you're willing to teach it to me, I'll go down and get your thing right away!"
Legilimency, this kind of Magic, is virtually impossible to find in magic books, not even in the black market. At least, he hadn't found it in the French black market during his previous visits.
And this kind of dangerous Magic, even Snape probably wouldn't teach it to him. So, he could only turn to Voldemort.
After all, Voldemort was a master of manipulating minds and an expert in Legilimency, on par with Dumbledore.
"You're talking about Legilimency. As long as you go down and get what I want, I'll teach it to you!"
Voldemort replied without hesitation.
In his view, Jerry was destined to be eaten by the Basilisk once he went down, so he had no reason to refuse Jerry's request.
"But what if the thing you want isn't down there? That can't be my fault!"
Jerry still didn't move.
"As long as you're willing to go down, I'll teach you Legilimency, whether you find what I want or not!"
Seeing Voldemort's assurance, Jerry nodded in satisfaction and walked toward the tunnel with the diary in hand.
The tunnel, or rather the large pipe, was inclined downward.
So, he didn't need to walk; he could just squat and slide down like on a slide, saving a lot of effort.
The pipe was very long, and there were many branching tunnels, though none as wide as the main one, and it was unclear where they led.
After sliding for what felt like hundreds of meters, Jerry estimated he had reached a depth even lower than the Black Lake. He finally slid out of the pipe and onto a flat surface.
"Lumos!"
A bright light emitted from the tip of his wand, dispelling the darkness and allowing Jerry to see his surroundings clearly.
This was a wide stone tunnel, about four or five meters high.
"Hurry, follow the tunnel to the end!"
Seeing a hint of fear on Jerry's face, the diary once again showed Voldemort's urging words.
Jerry pretended to be afraid, nodded, and cautiously walked forward with his wand.
After a series of twists and turns, he finally reached the end of the tunnel.
But what he found was a solid wall, adorned with two intertwined snakes, their eyes set with large, shimmering green gemstones.
"Yes, this is it. Bring the diary close to the wall, and let me open it!"
Jerry could clearly sense Voldemort's excitement in the words.
However, at that moment, he made his body tremble, then turned and began to walk back, writing in the diary as he went:
"I don't want to learn Legilimency anymore. This place is too eerie, and I have a bad feeling. I'm leaving!"
"This is a treasure chamber of Hogwarts, where the great Witch who created me hid many precious treasures. If you go in, you'll become the wealthiest and most powerful Witch, even more powerful than Dumbledore!"
Ignoring the words on the diary, Jerry continued walking back. When he reached the pipe, he used a levitation charm to return to the sink in the Second Floor Girls' Bathroom.
