Chapter 221: Failed Killing Curse
Chapter 221: Failed Killing Curse
The atmosphere turned cold the moment Barty Jr. finished speaking.
A chilly night breeze blew between them, causing the three masked Death Eaters to bristle as if they were being watched by something terrifying.
They swallowed hard, cautiously scanning their surroundings, not believing that the dangerous feeling could come from the young Wizard opposite them, who was barely in his twenties.
Sherlock's smile faded, and he stared expressionlessly at Barty Jr., who was wandless but still unafraid.
Under the moonlight, his bangs gently fluttered in the wind, and his emerald eyes were devoid of emotion, yet seemed to hide a storm that had yet to erupt.
"Hmm, the woman you mentioned, is her name Sally Forrest?"
His voice was calm, as if he were asking about a trivial matter.
Barty Jr.'s smile grew even wider, and he burst into a manic laugh, as if recalling something incredibly amusing.
"Ha ha, Sally Forrest, that's right! Sally Forrest, that's her name! You remember her very well, don't you?"
He opened his eyes wide and locked gazes with Sherlock, his eyes filled with provocation and mockery.
"I never thought that woman would still leave a child behind after becoming what she did. You must have hated that madwoman a lot, right? You must have despised her as a child, right?"
The countless wands floating behind them, which had already aimed at them, flickered for a moment but ultimately held back, not releasing their spells.
"Have you seen her? Do you know why she became like that?" Sherlock asked calmly, but those who knew him well understood that his tone at this moment was already ice-cold.
Barty Jr. seemed to recall something delightful. He spread his hands as if he were a passionate speaker on a platform, speaking with vivid emotion.
"At that time, I hadn't yet graduated from Hogwarts, but I had already been exposed to the Master's great ambitions. One night, when the Master gathered us like-minded individuals for a meeting, I witnessed your mother, Sally Forrest, the stubborn woman who tried to stop the Master's cause, transform from a normal person into a madwoman!"
He narrowed his cold, faintly glowing eyes and glanced stealthily behind him, then spoke with a tone of reverence, worship, and madness.
"I have never seen the Master so angry. Clearly, that woman had made a grave mistake, an unforgivable one. He had all his servants watch as Bella inflicted the cruelest punishment on her, a punishment worse than death! In the end, she was driven mad and thrown back to Dumbledore!"
"Ha ha, I never imagined that after she returned, someone would still be willing to consort with such a madwoman and a waste of flesh, to father a little bastard like you! Let me guess, who is your father? A man who could still lay hands on such a madwoman?"
After his words, a silence fell over the area, the air seemingly frozen.
The three masked Death Eaters guarding Barty Jr. clutched their wands, their palms drenched in cold sweat.
The young man standing opposite them, who had become a Hogwarts professor at a young age and gained a reputation, showed no change in his expression, yet it seemed as if a profound transformation had occurred.
The night breeze lifted the corner of Sherlock's robe, making a rustling sound.
"She had anticipated it before she went", he murmured, not addressing anyone, but simply speaking to himself. "Erased her memory, remained undetected, and bore all the consequences of failure alone."
Barty Jr. didn't hear what Sherlock was saying. His true attention was elsewhere, and he discreetly signaled the three Death Eaters behind him with a gesture hidden behind his back.
"No wonder you look so familiar. You resemble that madwoman so much", Barty Jr. sneered. "So you've come here tonight, wanting to experience the same torment your great mother endured?"
Sherlock didn't respond. He slowly lifted his head, gazing indifferently at Barty Jr., and raised his empty left hand.
The moment he raised his hand, Barty Jr. suddenly shouted.
"Cast the spell!"
The three Death Eaters and Sherlock chanted their spells almost simultaneously!
"Thunder Blast."
"Protego Totalum!" ×3.
Blinding white light and a blue shield that resembled an inverted bowl appeared at the exact same moment!
"Boom!"
The deafening explosion made the ground tremble violently!
The powerful shockwave snapped countless trees in half, causing them to crash to the ground.
Wet soil splattered everywhere, flying through the air like bullets, creating a series of "swooshing" sounds.
But Sherlock didn't stop. He raised his hand expressionlessly and continued to cast another spell.
"Avada Kedavra!"
The Wands in the sky, like disciplined soldiers receiving orders, aligned their tips uniformly toward the massive mud pit below, created by a hundred Explosive Charms.
A dark green light flickered at the tips of the Wands, densely packed like countless green eyes opening in the night.
In the next second, the deathly green light illuminated the entire grove!
When Barty Jr. heard Sherlock utter the Unforgivable Spell, he felt as if he had fallen into an ice pit, his eyes filled with despair and hopelessness.
He had noticed the abnormal Wands behind him from the start and realized that Sherlock was not an ordinary Wizard.
So, he tried to provoke him with words, hoping to prevent Sherlock from using any strange means to alert the Ministry of Magic and to signal the other three Death Eaters to prepare.
No matter how peculiar the means, he had seen all sorts of strange magic in the Wizarding World.
Although he always thought that the Master's followers, besides himself, were a bunch of worthless drunkards, for the average Wizard, becoming a Death Eater already made them exceptional, otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to tangle with Aurors for so many years.
Sherlock's youthful appearance made Barty Jr. doubt his ability to handle three opponents.
However, the moment the hundred Explosive Charms lit up, Barty Jr. knew he had made a mistake!
According to his plan, the Modified Shield Charm used by the three adult Wizards together should have been able to withstand Sherlock's first wave of attacks. After blocking the first wave, they could organize a counterattack.
But the result was that the first wave of Explosive Charms alone shattered the Modified Shield Charm created by the three of them.
As Barty Jr. and the others were dazed and disoriented from the explosion, still struggling to climb out of the pit, Sherlock had already prepared his next Spell.
Barty Jr. was intimately familiar with the Killing Curse, having used this ultimate Dark Magic to kill more people than he could count on one hand.
Staring at the countless green eyes opening in the sky, he felt no hope of survival!
"No!!!"
Just as he had regained his freedom, Barty Jr. was faced with death again, and he screamed in despair.
But his actions could not stop the death beams from blossoming!
The Spells rained down like a torrential downpour, the dark green raindrops mercilessly sliding from the sky and landing in the large pit where Barty Jr. and the others were!
The dense barrage of Spells, concentrated in such a small area, left no room for them to avoid the Killing Curses.
Each of them was hit by dozens of Killing Curses.
But to Barty Jr. and the others' surprise, the Killing Curses did not cause immediate death. Blood flowed from their ears, noses, mouths, and eyes, and their consciousness was hazy, but they did not die outright!
Barty Jr., who had faced certain death and now saw a glimmer of hope, was overjoyed!
He snatched a Wand from a nearby Death Eater, casting Spells at Sherlock while fleeing without hesitation.
The other three in the pit were a bit slower to react, but once they came to their senses, they also scrambled out of the pit and fled for their lives.
No one had the heart to continue resisting Sherlock. A single person with the power to match hundreds of Wizards had turned the tables, giving him the advantage even when facing four Wizards.
Including Barty Jr., their only thought now was to escape and live.
Of course, Sherlock would not give them that chance.
His Wand waved lightly in the air, and without uttering a single Spell, the environment around them changed dramatically.
The trees that had been knocked over by the explosions transformed, and countless vine-like tendrils spread out, quickly entangling the two Death Eaters who were lagging behind.
The vines wrapped around their bodies like pythons coiling around their prey, leaving only their legs struggling.
Sherlock's face remained cold, showing no hesitation or doubt. He snapped his fingers lightly.
Instantly, the vines grew countless steel-like thorns that pierced through the two entangled Death Eaters!
The four legs that had been struggling fiercely suddenly stiffened, then fell limp to the ground.
Scarlet, thick blood dripped to the ground, quickly forming a pool. The thick vines slowly returned to their original form, leaving only two mangled corpses lying lifelessly on the ground.
Sherlock paid no attention to this, not even glancing at the other fleeing Death Eaters. He walked expressionlessly in the direction of Barty Jr.
