Chapter 221: A Simple Challenge
Chapter 221: A Simple Challenge
Kyle frowned as he looked at the empty room. As a member of Hufflepuff and the instigator of this situation, he felt responsible for helping Professor Sprout rectify this little mistake.
However, the Devil's Snare was still in the Room of Requirement on the eighth floor, and it would be too time-consuming to retrieve it again. By the time he returned, Professor Chiro would probably have already turned to ashes.
So, Kyle decided to use something else instead.
He opened the box and took out all the Mandrakes, arranging them neatly beneath the Trapdoor.
There were about thirty Mandrakes in total, just enough to cover the steps where the Devil's Snare had been placed.
Previously, he had taken two seeds from Professor Sprout's greenhouse, and now, placing them here could be considered a tenfold repayment.
Kyle looked at his handiwork and nodded in satisfaction... This was the kind of challenge that guarding the Philosopher's Stone should have. The previous Devil's Snare was like a joke, too perfunctory.
He just hoped that when Professor Chiro arrived, he would share Kyle's love for Mandrakes and mischievous one, and understand their habits and weaknesses. Otherwise... Kyle might be in for some bad luck.
As for Harry, Kyle wasn't worried at all. He had a premonition that Harry would be fine.
After completing this task, Kyle remounted his broomstick and flew down a stone corridor. Soon, he arrived at Professor Flitwick's challenge.
In the brightly lit room, countless winged keys fluttered like little birds, flying back and forth beneath the high, arched ceiling.
At the entrance, there was a row of old Flying Broomsticks, exactly three in number.
"Three broomsticks... Professor Flitwick is up to something," Kyle muttered.
To create some trouble for Professor Chiro, Kyle didn't rush to tackle the challenge. Instead, he took out his wand and whispered to the broomsticks in the corner, "Fly away!"
One by one, the broomsticks rose and flew down the stone corridor.
Kyle had no idea where they would end up, but it didn't matter as long as they left the room.
Kyle also jumped off his broomstick and quickly walked towards the other end of the room.
The flying keys hovering in midair didn't react, and he reached the door unscathed.
Kyle took out the Master Key and inserted it into the lock, giving it a gentle twist. With a click, the lock popped open.
It had to be said that this challenge was even more perfunctory than Professor Sprout's Devil's Snare, with absolutely no difficulty at all.
Even without the Master Key, one could easily pass by finding a Bowtruckle in the Forbidden Forest.
However, Professor McGonagall's challenge was a bit more troublesome.
The previously empty chessboard now had black and white chess pieces standing on it... These pieces were carved from stone, each about two meters tall, resembling the statues in the castle and exuding a sense of oppression.
Kyle frowned, feeling a bit stumped. His skill in Wizard's Chess was average, and he wasn't sure if he could pass this challenge.
Fortunately, he had another idea, although it might be a bit crude. He hoped Professor McGonagall wouldn't be upset.
Kyle opened the box and released the Troll.
"I need to get to the other side."
The Troll tilted its head, taking a moment to understand Kyle's intention. It then picked up a wooden club and stepped onto the chessboard.
The white chess pieces tried to block its path, but they were as fragile as clay in the face of the Troll's immense strength, shattering with a single blow from its club.
Kyle followed the Troll, heading straight for the door across from them.
Behind him, the shattered chess pieces slowly began to restore themselves. Without stopping, Kyle put the Troll back in its box and proceeded down the next corridor.
The next room also contained a Troll, and a nauseating stench filled the air—a smell more potent than the Troll itself! Holding his breath, Kyle used the Homorphus Charm to easily deceive the Troll and hurried through the room to the final challenge.
In this room, there was only a table with seven uniquely shaped bottles on it.
As Kyle stepped over the threshold, a purple flame rose behind him, sealing the doorway... At the same time, black flames shot up from the door ahead.
He was trapped in the middle.
Kyle approached the table and picked up the parchment on top.
It was a simple logic puzzle... If someone living on Baker Street in London were here, they would probably know the answer at a glance.
Kyle wasn't that quick, but he didn't need to do any reasoning; he simply picked up the smallest bottle.
Kyle removed the stopper and looked at the black liquid inside, hesitating for a moment before deciding not to drink it.
The color was too eerie, and he couldn't bring himself to take a sip.
Moreover, Snape's potions had one common trait... If he didn't drink them, their taste was indescribable.
Last year, when Michael first drank the Anti-Magic Potion, he said that even the fertilizer in the greenhouse smelled sweeter than that stuff.
Kyle wasn't sure if he was exaggerating, but it was always better to be cautious.

After all, Snape knew who wanted to steal the Philosopher's Stone, and given his character, he might very well add some extra ingredients to the correct potion.
Kyle decisively put the bottle back and took his wand to the black flames ahead.
Then, his wand began to glow with an orange light.
The light spread from the tip, quickly turning the wand into a vibrant orange color.
Kyle flipped his wand and drove it into the ground.
"All Spells Cease!"
In an instant, the purple and black flames went out, and the room returned to its original state.
Kyle breathed a sigh of relief.
Thanks to Dumbledore, twenty years ago, he had modified this large-scale spell, which originally required multiple wizards to cast, into a single charm.
Otherwise, a simple stopping spell might not have worked.
Kyle hurried through the doorway and entered the final room.
Chiro, or Voldemort, had not yet arrived, and the room contained only a large mirror.
The Erised Mirror.
Kyle approached and circled the mirror.
To be honest, he had thought about it for a long time, but he still didn't know how Dumbledore had hidden the Philosopher's Stone in the mirror.
Kyle guessed that Dumbledore had likely used alchemy to disassemble the Erised Mirror, added the Philosopher's Stone, and then reassembled it.
Kyle was sure he couldn't do it, but for those alchemy masters, it was as easy as pie.
And Dumbledore himself was an alchemy master; otherwise, he wouldn't have become friends with Niccolme when he was young.
The smoking silver objects in the headmaster's office were probably his creations, though their purpose remained unknown.
