Chapter 220: The City of Falling Stars
Chapter 220: The City of Falling Stars
2024-10-08
It seems there's no more precise information to be gained from the Siren Mermaid.
Su Nan was a bit disappointed.
The only valuable piece of information he obtained was confirming that the person of Mystery was definitely not a divine spirit. In fact, the Person of Mystery's treatment of the Siren Mermaid was more akin to that of a wizard.
Even so, Su Nan wasn't particularly concerned.
The Siren Mermaid had surrendered, and the Deep Sea Naga was on the verge of defeat, unable to withstand the Star Alliance's military might for much longer.
When that time came, most of the Heart of the Rainbow Sea would be under the Star Alliance's control.
If the Person of Mystery wanted a large number of Heart of the Sea, they would eventually have to interact with the Star Alliance again.
Having obtained the information he needed, Su Nan had no further interest in continuing the conversation. He soothed Aida with a few words and had her escorted back to Rainbow Bay.
The Star Alliance could establish a base in the Rainbow Sea, but to truly control the vast expanse of the Rainbow Sea, they would need the cooperation of the marine races. In the Star Alliance's future maritime development plans, the Siren Mermaid's role was not to be underestimated.
Once Aida left, Su Nan flicked his wrist, and a bright pearl appeared in his palm.
The Sun Fusion Pearl, the key to finding the City of Falling Stars.
According to Fakado, the City of Falling Stars would appear in a month.
Following the usual pattern, the City of Falling Stars would remain for three months before vanishing again.
In other words, he needed to find the City of Falling Stars within those three months.
Su Nan had already made some guesses about Fakado's claim that the City of Falling Stars couldn't be found, but he needed to see the actual situation to confirm.
A month passed swiftly.
Su Nan arrived early at Coral City in the Rainbow Sea to wait.
The moment the Sun Fusion Pearl reacted, he immediately sensed it.
"Southwest."
Su Nan shot into the sky, transforming into a stream of light and hurtling southwest.
The distance of over three hundred kilometers was quickly covered, and Su Nan finally stopped above a calm stretch of sea.
"Is it here?"
Su Nan took out the Sun Fusion Pearl and checked it, confirming that the key pointed to this very spot.
However, as he gazed out at the endless sea, he saw nothing but an empty expanse, not even a bird, let alone the City of Falling Stars.
Su Nan's eyes flickered, and he manipulated energy particles to form a protective layer around him. He then plunged into the water, searching the ocean floor.
About half an hour later, a splash sounded as Su Nan burst out of the water, hovering high in the air, his brow furrowed as he stared at the sea.
He had searched the surrounding area for over ten kilometers but found no trace of the City of Falling Stars.
"Unless the Sun Fusion Pearl's guidance is faulty, the City of Falling Stars must be hidden here."
Considering that he might have missed something while searching alone, Su Nan returned to Coral City and ordered the First Fleet to mobilize, along with the Siren Mermaid, to search the area.
To Su Nan's disappointment, after three days of exhaustive searches, they still found nothing.
"Lord, that area is only seventy to eighty kilometers from the Azure Eye. My people often fish and hunt sea monsters there, but we've never seen any city in all the centuries."
After questioning Aida, Su Nan received this response.
Although he had no leads, he confirmed one thing: the lack of discovery wasn't due to the vastness of the sea but rather another reason.
Perhaps the City of Falling Stars was hidden using an illusionary array.
Realizing this, Su Nan found himself in a new dilemma.
He wasn't without means to dispel illusions, such as casting the spell "Secret Eye" or using an anti-illusion magical item.
However, using these methods to search the entire area, which spanned over ten kilometers, would likely take more than the three months he had.
"Is there a better way?"
Su Nan pondered for a moment, then suddenly remembered something.
"How could I forget about that!"
He immediately returned to Dragon Forest and found Amy resting on the top floor of the Dragon Skeleton Tower. He brought her directly to the Rainbow Sea.
The poor little creature was dreaming of being surrounded by ice mint, enjoying it immensely, when a sudden sea breeze woke her. She opened her eyes to find herself in Su Nan's hand, with a vast ocean below.
"Meow, Su Nan, why did you bring me here?"
"Amy, I need your help."
Su Nan stopped mid-air, directly above the sea where the Sun Fusion Pearl had locked onto.
He pointed to the shimmering water below and said, "Can you sense any significant energy fluctuations around us?"
An illusionary array, when active, would inevitably produce energy fluctuations.
While Su Nan struggled to detect such subtle energy fluctuations in the vast ocean, Amy could.
Her ability to sense energy particles was something even a formal wizard would envy.
"Energy fluctuations? What are you looking for, meow?"
"Fallen Star City."
"The Fallen Star City, one of the three great wizard legacies? Meow, I've heard of it!"
Upon hearing that Su Nan was looking for Fallen Star City, Amy immediately perked up, scrambling onto Su Nan's shoulder and beginning to sense the energy fluctuations around them.
"Meow, there's nothing here."
Su Nan nodded and began to fly slowly around the sea, starting from the outer circle and moving inward, not missing a single area.
After more than ten minutes, Amy suddenly shouted.
"It's right here, under the sea, meow!"
Su Nan's spirit lifted, and he cast an energy shield, enveloping Amy within it before diving into the water.
"I sense the energy fluctuations a bit deeper," Amy chirped.
Su Nan immediately produced a gem, which transformed into a basketball-sized orange-red light orb that hovered above his head.
Light
The lowest-level zeroth-circle spell, when cast by a formal wizard, greatly enhanced its effect, illuminating a hundred meters around them as if it were broad daylight.
After descending over three hundred meters, Amy finally spoke, pointing ahead.
"It's right here, meow."
Su Nan directed the orange-red light orb over, and the bright light illuminated the dark seabed, revealing every detail. However, apart from some rocks, there was nothing else.
"How strange, meow. I clearly sensed energy particle fluctuations."
Amy's chubby paws pressed against her head, her face filled with confusion.
"It's probably concealed by an illusion."
Su Nan immediately cast Arcane Sight.
This third-circle spell allowed him to see magical auras. Although it didn't directly reveal illusions like True Sight, it could sometimes be used to search for objects with energy particle fluctuations that were concealed.
As a faint blue light flashed from Su Nan's eyes, a blurry door appeared in his vision.
"Found it!"
A delighted smile spread across Su Nan's face.
The door was about two meters high and one meter wide, just enough for two people to pass side by side.
If he had to use Arcane Sight to search for such a small door in the vast, dark sea, it would have taken ages.
Without hesitation, silvery liquid metal surged from Su Nan's body, quickly forming a two-meter-long, icy-sharp spear, which shot out like a missile, striking the nearby door!
In the silent world of the deep sea, a visible shockwave ripple spread out from the point of impact in all directions.
The sea seemed to shudder, and the ground directly hit by the shockwave instantly sank, creating a massive pit over a hundred meters in diameter and several meters deep.
The surrounding rocks shattered and disintegrated, turning the water murky.
In an instant, it seemed as if a violent explosion had occurred within a few hundred meters, and it took a long time for the sea to gradually calm down.
By then, Su Nan and Amy had already vanished.
The moment the silver spear broke through the door, Su Nan had already carried Amy through and into the space beyond.
There, he saw a city of jade-white stone.
The city was perched on a massive black conical mountain, slowly rotating clockwise. In the center of the city, a spiral tower stood imposingly, like a sharp needle piercing the sky, overlooking the entire city.
Through the vision of Arcane Sight, thousands of shimmering enchanted runes flowed like water droplets from the top of the spiral tower, converging and arranging themselves into seven long, radiant, colorful ribbons that crisscrossed and enveloped the entire city.
"Is this Fallen Star City? It's so magnificent, meow!" Amy's eyes widened as she stared at the city.
Su Nan's eyes were also filled with wonder.
Just in terms of appearance, Fallen Star City far surpassed the Star Tower and the Black Forest.
It even looked a bit like a floating city.
However, Su Nan knew it was only superficially similar; a true floating city was much larger.
Regardless, he had finally found Fallen Star City!
Suppressing his excitement and joy, Su Nan flew into the jade-white city.
All the buildings were constructed from jade-white stone, looking incredibly beautiful.
Su Nan casually broke off a piece of stone from a flower bed and examined it, discovering that these stones were actually white jade.
"A city entirely built of white jade."
Su Nan couldn't help but draw a sharp breath.
Besides the word "extravagant," he didn't know how to describe it.
Even when building a wizard's tower, only a few places like spell practice rooms and laboratories would use white jade.
And in Fallen Star City, many of these buildings were clearly residential, yet they still used the precious white jade. How extravagant!
"Enough white jade to build a large wizard's tower."
Su Nan decided that after exploring the entire Fallen Star City, he would tear down all the buildings and reclaim the white jade stones. He would save them for upgrading his wizard tower in the future.
Making their way through the streets and alleys, Su Nan and Amy soon arrived at the base of the spiral tower in the city’s center.
Amy, curious, approached the tower and reached out to touch the colorful light bands formed by enchanted runes. However, her paw passed right through them.
"Meow, it's so cold!" The little creature played happily.
"Stop playing around. We have work to do first."
Su Nan lifted Amy and placed her back on his shoulder, then stepped toward the tower’s entrance.
However, as he approached the door, the seven colorful light bands reacted instantly. Dozens of dazzling enchanted runes detached from the bands, falling like stars at high speed, heading straight for Su Nan.
Su Nan raised an eyebrow and calmly manipulated the liquid metal to intercept the runes.
The two collided mid-air, and the instant they touched, both the enchanted runes and the liquid metal vanished, annihilating each other.
After blocking all the enchanted runes, the volume of the liquid metal had shrunk by nearly a third.
"Runes with annihilation properties, huh."
Su Nan's eyes flickered.
Seeing more enchanted runes detaching and falling from the light bands, he didn't hesitate. He used the liquid metal to block the runes and quickly carried Amy through the door.
As he stepped inside, the enchanted runes paused, then floated back and remerged with the light bands, continuing their river-like flow as if nothing had happened.
The danger was over, but Su Nan didn’t relax at all.
He had thought that Fallen Star City had insufficient energy and that its defenses were ineffective. Now it was clear that the defenses were still active, but only around this spiral tower.
There might be other attacks on the way ahead.
Behind the door was a long, spiraling staircase that wound upward, seemingly endless.
Su Nan raised his guard and stepped onto the staircase, heading upward.
The surroundings were silent, with only Su Nan’s footsteps echoing softly.
The air was cold, and the oppressive silence made Amy cling tighter to Su Nan’s neck.
After walking for what seemed like a long time, Su Nan stopped and looked up.
The spiral staircase still seemed endless.
"How long is this staircase, meow? We’ve been walking for so long!" Amy’s large eyes were full of confusion.
Su Nan narrowed his eyes and chuckled, "The staircase isn’t long. Someone just doesn’t want us to reach the top."
As he finished speaking, a surge of liquid metal burst from Su Nan’s body, flowing like a flood in all directions.
Crack!
A sudden sound of something shattering echoed through the air.
Amy’s vision flickered, and the endless spiral staircase was replaced by one with a visible ceiling.
"Illusion, meow?"
Su Nan didn’t explain, just smiled and continued upward.
Reaching the top of the staircase, Su Nan and Amy entered a vast, luxurious hall that looked like a palace.
The hall was at least four to five square kilometers in area.
The hall was empty except for two stone pillars, about half a person’s height, standing at the far end. Something seemed to be placed on top of them, but it was obscured by a glow.
"Definitely treasure, meow!"
Amy leaped down, ready to run toward the pillars, but Su Nan grabbed her by the scruff and lifted her back up.
"I know you can teleport, but don’t run around recklessly in a place like this."
Su Nan playfully flicked Amy’s forehead and pointed toward the front of the pillars.
Amy, rubbing her forehead, widened her eyes and looked. Only then did she notice a puddle of mud a short distance in front of the pillars.
Wait!
Why would there be mud in this luxurious hall?
Under Amy’s stunned gaze, a round object slowly emerged from the mud. It started about the size of a pot lid, then rapidly expanded. By the time it fully revealed itself, it was nearly half the size of a basketball court.
.
This was an extremely large monster.
Its skin was an odd pinkish-blue, marked with dark green patterns. Four small eyes were arranged in a straight line from top to bottom, and dozens of black tentacles connected to its body, contrasting sharply with its skin and looking oddly out of place.
But its terrifying size was enough to make anyone lose their laughter.
"Squid, meow?" Amy gaped.
From its appearance, the monster did resemble a squid, but ordinary squids certainly didn’t have four eyes or dozens of tentacles.
"That’s a puppet," Su Nan said.
