Chapter 220: Pre-Competition
Chapter 220: Pre-Competition (Seeking Subscriptions, Favorites, and Recommendations)
"Did I successfully create a Deathclaw Flesh Golem?" Liam thought excitedly as he watched the Deathclaw begin to move. However, instead of getting off the platform and standing still as he had imagined, the Deathclaw started to tremble, and the shaking grew more intense over time.
Soon, the Deathclaw's muscles began to atrophy, and its skin color darkened. But Liam could sense that the Deathclaw was growing stronger, far beyond the original Flesh Revival effect. Considering that he had used spells from three different civilizations on this Deathclaw, some changes were to be expected.
Finally, the Deathclaw stopped trembling, and Liam realized he could fully control the Flesh Golem before him.
After issuing a command, the Deathclaw leaped from the platform and landed steadily in front of Liam. The light thud indicated that the puppet's control over its body was as good as, if not better than, when it was alive. Liam, excited by this, began to examine the Deathclaw closely.
The Deathclaw stood still, its body covered in obsidian-like scales. Liam pinched its body and was surprised to find that although its muscles had atrophied, their strength had increased. Now, it felt more like touching rock than flesh.
Its claws had also been enhanced. Liam took out a dagger he had made from the Deathclaw's claws and tapped it against the puppet's claws. The puppet's claws only left a thin white scratch that could be wiped off easily, while the dagger's edge chipped, leaving a small, pea-sized notch.
Liam then tried some spells and confirmed that the combination of the Rune Stone inside and the surface runes gave the puppet a magic resistance comparable to that of an adult half-giant.
When Liam used magic to communicate with the Deathclaw puppet, he discovered that the most surprising change wasn't just the physical enhancements. The most significant change was the artificial lesser soul he had implanted, which mimicked the soul structure of a Dementor. The Deathclaw had somehow gained some of the Dementor's abilities.
For example, as long as the puppet's core wasn't damaged, it could slowly recover by absorbing ambient magical energy. However, this recovery was not fast. For instance, if it lost a front claw, it might take three to five years to regenerate on its own.
Another ability was that it could now become ethereal for one second each day, allowing it to avoid certain fatal physical attacks.
Liam grew more and more fond of his creation, but the increased combat power due to the mutations also brought a series of control issues. He could now control only two Deathclaws at a time, dashing his dream of forming a puppet army.
After spending three more days creating another Deathclaw puppet and familiarizing himself with its operation, Liam returned to Hogwarts, satisfied.
However, as soon as he left the bathroom, he was intercepted by the Weasley Twins. "Where have you been? Hermione has been looking for you in the Library", Fred said.
"I wasn't feeling well and stayed in the bathroom a bit longer", Liam replied as he walked with the Weasley Twins toward the Library.
"By the way, thanks for lending us your notebook and the textbooks with the highlighted key points", George said as they walked.
Fred nodded in agreement. "Especially the notes you lent us. The highlighted points are more accurate than Percy's. I feel like I can solve similar problems much more smoothly after reading your notes."
"To be honest, I’m not the top student when it comes to academics. But when it comes to exams, especially theoretical ones, I think there aren’t many in our house who can outdo me. Of course, if I hadn’t seen your decent magic skills while you were making those things, I wouldn’t have dared to tell you at Christmas that I have a way to help you boost your College Entrance Exam scores", Liam said with a shrug.
"Thanks a lot, anyway", the two brothers said in unison.
"Don’t mention it. I’m counting on investing in your future joke shop, after all."
After arriving at the Library, Liam realized why Hermione had wanted to see him: Wood had just approached her, hoping that she and Liam could help Harry with his homework. After all, yesterday’s match between Ravenclaw and Slytherin had just concluded, with Slytherin winning by a narrow margin. This meant that Gryffindor still had a chance to win this year.
So Harry had increased his training schedule to five times a week. This meant that, with Lupin’s Dementor Defense Class, Harry only had one evening a week to do his homework, and Lupin’s extra classes were even more exhausting than six Quidditch practices. Under these circumstances, Wood had no choice but to seek help, and the first thing he thought of was the homework study group that had been active in the Gryffindor Common Room for four years.
"Harry has always been an occasional participant in the group, so I’m worried he might not adapt well to our true discussion style. After all, he needs to complete a week’s worth of homework in one day, and I think only the two of us can fully help him", Hermione said, sounding a bit concerned.
"At least this isn’t as difficult as some of the challenges we’ve faced before", Liam said, winking at Hermione.
Hermione smiled at Liam’s gesture and then asked seriously, "So, what do you think we should do?"
"Harry has one more class, Divination, and is missing Arithmancy and Ancient Runes, but the rest are the same. The Divination homework is just something to make up, so we can ignore it. For the other subjects, we can summarize the week’s content in advance and guide him through the difficult points."
Liam paused for a moment and then continued, "Summarizing the courses once a week might be a bit tiring, but it will also help our own studies. And since Harry is doing this for the house’s honor, helping him is like contributing to the house, just like you do when you work hard to earn house points in class."
After they discussed and agreed, they quickly told Wood that they would help Harry with his tutoring and homework. Wood’s tired face lit up with a smile when he heard the news.
"Thank you so much. I really didn’t know what to do otherwise", Wood said, still writing his homework. After all, he was a seventh-year like Percy and was also under the pressure of the N.E.W.T. exams. Additionally, to become a professional player in the future, he needed to lead Gryffindor to enough victories this year. The dual pressure made him look quite exhausted.
"No problem. As members of Gryffindor, this is what we should do", Liam said, with Hermione nodding in agreement beside him.
The following month went smoothly, with Harry regularly receiving tutoring from Liam and Hermione. Meanwhile, Liam, besides his daily studies, was quietly recovering from the injuries he had sustained in the battle with the Blood Deity, hoping to heal as soon as possible.
