Chapter 220: Lanchi's Overzealous Sense of Responsibility
Chapter 220: Lanchi's Overzealous Sense of Responsibility
As soon as Monaster walked through the door, his eyes immediately fell on the sofa in the resting area.
"Wonderful, you two are both in the student council room."
Seeing Lanchi and Shubellyan, Monaster offered a calm smile.
"Is there something we can help with?"
Lanchi closed the book in his hand, placing it on the table as he looked at the president inquiringly.
With only a month left in the semester, Lanchi's mind had mostly been occupied with planning for the winter break trip to the Northern Continent, but he remained equally concerned about the work at the academy.
"I just came from the Knight's College to coordinate some matters."
Monaster sat gracefully across from the two of them, with Frey taking a seat beside the president.
A dark wooden coffee table stood quietly on the carpet, its edges softly rounded.
Asina soon brought over two cups of coffee. The hot beverage filled the room with a rich aroma, dispelling the chill that had entered with them.
"Do you remember the 'Soul of the Fighter' team from the Knight's College?"
After expressing his gratitude, Monaster took a slight sip of coffee, his expression weary. He set down the porcelain cup and addressed Lanchi and Shubellyan.
"Mhm, of course."
The two nodded in unison.
When they had first joined the student council, their first task was to negotiate with the 'Soul of the Fighter' club to dismantle a dangerous building that posed a safety hazard for the school.
It was during that assignment that the three of them had become close after being chased through the streets by a group of enraged fighters.
"Here's what happened—"
Monaster sighed and proceeded to explain the situation.
"First, after the demolition incident, the leader of the 'Soul of the Fighter', Tzervini, underwent a change in attitude. She transferred to the Alchemist College to study law and has since devoted herself entirely to her studies, forsaking the path of a fighter. She hasn't set foot in the Shadow World or the arena since."
"..."
Hearing this, Shubellyan glanced at Lanchi.
The culprit was right beside her.
"It seems reasonable to me, but the fighters from the Royal Academy of Yalong don't see it that way. They find it absurd and believe that our school's fighters are backing down, making up an excuse that insults their intelligence."
Monaster continued his narrative.
The fighters from the Royal Academy of Yalong had come with the intention of engaging in a fierce battle with the fighters of the Ikelite College, wagering their souls as fighters. However, with Tzervini, the strongest among them, absent, their visit seemed to have lost its purpose.
So, the group from the Royal Academy of Yalong devised a plan to mercilessly trounce the remaining members of the 'Soul of the Fighter' team during the scheduled match.
They believed that if their underlings were beaten badly enough, Tzervini would be unable to restrain her anger and would step up to the challenge.
But her subordinates knew that their leader was exceptionally diligent, spending day and night studying tirelessly as she prepared for her legal exams.
They, too, fought with all their might, hoping to end the match on their own terms and spare their leader any worry that might affect her exams.
In the end, the battle turned out as Shubellyan had witnessed on the magical screen—so cruel that it was stopped midway.
"The Dean of the Knight's College, Mr. Sventos, declared our side the winner, but the fighters from the Royal Academy of Yalong refused to accept it. They insisted that the match must be seen through to its conclusion and that the intervention of external forces went against the spirit of a duel."
"I personally believe that Dean Sventos' decision was appropriate. However, considering that my task is to host the academic delegation from the Royal Academy of Yalong, I wanted to try and accommodate the feelings of those few students from the Kingdom of Yalong. So, I went to negotiate with the fighters from the Royal Academy of Yalong and came to an agreement."
Monaster finally breathed a sigh of relief, having recounted most of what had transpired between him and Frey at the Knight's College.
"What exactly is this agreement?"
Shubellyan asked, intrigued.
She was confident in President Monaster's exceptional communication and negotiation skills and believed that even with unreasonable fighters, he would be able to reach a convincing arrangement.
"The match will continue the day after tomorrow. If they win, I will communicate with the Alchemist College and request that Tzervini accept their challenge. But if our side wins, they are not to disturb Tzervini's legal exams any further.
"That's what happened," Monaster replied.
"So, what are our chances of winning?" Lanchi asked with concern.
Hearing Shuberrian's previous words, he seemed to have become a little fixated on the concept of winning and losing.
"None," Monaster's reply was swift and decisive.
Today's spar had clearly shown the vast gap in strength between the two sides, and the match had been stopped due to suspected abuse.
In reality, if another match were to be held, the fighters, whose hearts were already filled with fear and a sense of defeat, would have no chance of victory.
"However, what I didn't expect was that this academic visit team from Yalong Royal Academy has, in some ways, been quite successful. At least, from the results, they have consecutively won against us three times. So, this time, the professor leading the Yalong Royal Academy delegation proposed to make this team duel the concluding activity of the academic exchange between our academies."
As he spoke, Monaster furrowed his brows again, this being the truly troublesome matter.
Adams had defeated Lanchi, and so had Karen. Now, the fighters' team had also won decisively.
"And the personality of Dean Sventos of the Knight's College is different from that of Dean Lorren. Sometimes he will yield, but if the other party wants to take advantage, he will definitely play along. So he directly agreed to this formal duel, and there will be a large-scale warm-up event, and I expect all of Ikelite City will pay attention to this fight. I even ran into your father, Lanchi, on the way here, and even he is very interested in this match and wants to watch it live."
Monaster seemed to be a little worried about the series of events that this duel might set in motion.
"Are you planning to go directly to Tzervini and ask her to fight, Mr. President?"
Shuberrian thought for a moment and felt that it would be better to just surrender and avoid making the situation worse.
If the match once again devolved into an extremely bloody and cruel fight, it might not reflect well on either Yalong Royal Academy or Ikelite College, and it could even become a serious live-streaming accident.
Unknowingly, she found that Lanchi's surrender mentality had its merits.
Peace was always preferable.
Since Monaster and Tzervini were both third-year students at the Alchemist College, he should be able to talk to her easily, and with Monaster's eloquence, convincing Tzervini shouldn't be too difficult.
"But if I do that, all the efforts of the 'Soul of the Fighter' team members will be in vain. Although I try to accommodate the feelings of our visitors as much as possible, my primary duty is to help the students within the school. I think we should, in principle, help them. After all, the last demolition was also the fundamental reason for the current situation."
Monaster sighed.
In terms of cause and effect, their student council was the real culprit.
"..."
Shuberrian's face turned black as she heard this.
Of course, she knew that the real culprits for all of this were the two people sitting next to her.
"Of course, the other party also put forward some conditions, such as not being able to ask for powerful external aid from within the school, and the original members of the 'Soul of the Fighter' team must still be the ones to fight, so Frey cannot participate."
Monaster took another sip of his coffee and looked at Lanchi and Shuberrian,
"But every time I see their efforts for Tzervini, I feel a little soft-hearted. So, if possible, I hope you can help them realize this beautiful wish and bring this academic visit from Yalong Royal Academy to a perfect conclusion."
Monaster knew that Lanchi had some experience in education and might be skilled in short-term intensive training. In this situation, it was a case of better than nothing.
Upon hearing Monaster's request, Shuberrian was taken aback and quickly spoke up:
"Mr. President, please reconsider..."
Before Shuberrian could finish her sentence, Lanchi abruptly stood up and adjusted his tie.
"This matter is my duty, and I will definitely let my father see the true colors of our school!"
"Secretary Shuberrian, Director Frey, let's go!"
Lanchi looked at the two people sitting on the sofa and said.
His enthusiasm was terrifying, and for a moment, he even used their Shadow World nicknames.
The campus chapter is coming to an end, and the next chapter will be the Northern Continent Resurrection Church chapter.
