Chapter 220: Family Bonding
Chapter 220: Family Bonding
September 16, 2024
Lu Yuan stared at the tanghulu in front of him, his temples throbbing, a fleeting thought crossing his mind, but his expression remained unchanged.
"I told you, I'm not a kid anymore," he said with disdain.
The King of Miao: "You're my grandson!"
It felt like an insult, but it seemed to be a fact.
Lu Yuan let out a cold huff.
The King of Miao glared at him, "Are you going to take it or not? What? Do you want me to feed it to you? How old are you? Come on, I'll feed you!"
Lu Yuan hadn't expected the old man to take action so quickly. He grabbed the tanghulu and shoved it towards his mouth.
The notorious minister Lu Yuan was being fed tanghulu on the street; if this got out, what would be left of his reputation?
Lu Yuan's face turned cold as he took the tanghulu from the King of Miao.
The King of Miao leaned back, hands on his hips, and said with a raised eyebrow, "That's more like it!"
Lu Yuan didn't want to deal with him anymore and walked towards his carriage with a sullen expression.
In the distance, the officials who had been secretly observing the scene almost popped their eyes out.
The next morning, the King of Miao was still picking up his grandson from school, and he even had to bribe him with tanghulu. Was this really how a parent waited for their child after school?
King of Miao, aren't you spoiling him too much?
Your grandson is a notorious and power-hungry minister!
"Take a bite."
"I won't."
The King of Miao swallowed hard, "Just take one bite! I searched through several streets to find this!"
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow, "I won't."
"Give it to me if you won't eat it."
"No."
"You little rascal!"
The scene of the affectionate grandfather and grandson gradually grew warmer. The King of Miao put his hands behind his back and grumbled as he climbed into the carriage.
Upon returning to the Governor's Mansion, Bao Shu was sitting obediently on her special little stool, her tiny hands on her knees, and her mouth wide open, "Ah—"
Liu Qingyun sat opposite her, holding a small bowl and feeding her a spoonful of chopped vegetables.
"Is it tasty?" Liu Qingyun asked.
Bao Shu nodded vigorously and pointed to her small bowl, "Grandma is feeding me, it's delicious!"
Liu Qingyun smiled with satisfaction, "Such a good girl, have another bite. Who says our little treasure doesn't eat vegetables? Look how well she's eating them."
"My dear granddaughter, I'm back! My little grandniece?" The King of Miao entered the courtyard with bold strides.
As soon as Bao Shu heard her great-grandfather's voice, she immediately stopped eating, even spitting out the vegetables in her mouth. With a pout, she toddled towards her great-grandfather, crying.
The King of Miao's heart ached, and he quickly picked up the little one, "What's wrong with Great-Grandpa's little piggy?"
Bao Shu whined, "The food, it's yucky!"
Liu Qingyun's face darkened.
After returning to the courtyard, Lu Yuan found that Meng Qianqian was not there.
Ban Xia said, "The young madam went to the Princess's mansion."
Lu Yuan asked, "She went to the Princess's mansion again. How long has she been there?"
Ban Xia replied awkwardly, "It's been a while."
So, she had been there for quite some time.
Wanping Princess had just lost a bet, and now Meng Qianqian was visiting her. What kind of reception could she expect?
Lu Yuan's eyebrows furrowed, and he turned to leave the courtyard.
Just as he reached the gate, he saw a carriage stop in front of him.
Meng Qianqian and Chen Long jumped down from the carriage.
Lu Yuan's expression darkened.
Meng Qianqian looked up and said, "Husband?"
Noticing the horsewhip in his hand, she asked, "Are you going out?"
Lu Yuan didn't answer her but instead gave her bundle and Chen Long beside her a cold glance, "You just went to pick him up?"
Meng Qianqian, not yet sensing the impending crisis, replied, "Yes, husband. I won the bet against Wanping Princess, and from now on, Chen Long will be staying at the Governor's Mansion!"
Chen Long glanced at Lu Yuan and said to Meng Qianqian, "He doesn't seem to welcome me. Never mind, I'll be on my way."
Meng Qianqian quickly called out to him, "Hey, you can't leave! Princess Wanping gave you to me, so you're mine!"
Lu Yuan tightly gripped the horsewhip in his hand, "Meng... Xiao... Jiu!"
Meng Qianqian looked at him with a hurt expression, "Can't I have an older brother just because you have a mother and grandfather?"
Lu Yuan looked at her pitifully, his anger suddenly dissipating.
He glared coldly at Chenlong, "You'd better not play any tricks. If I find out you're a spy planted by the Chancellor in the Governor's Mansion, I'll kill you without hesitation!"
Chenlong calmly replied, "Although I'm not a spy, it doesn't seem like you have the ability to kill me."
Meng Qianqian quickly squeezed between the two, interrupting the tense atmosphere with a forced laugh, "You must be hungry, let's eat first!"
Dinner was served in Tinglan Garden.
Tinglan Garden belonged to the Grandmother and Bao Shu. Initially, Lu Yuan and Meng Qianqian would come here for meals every day, and Liu Qingyun continued this habit after moving into the mansion.
The Grandmother doted on the children, and she had even saved Lu Yuan's life when he was in danger during the Retired Emperor's reign.
The King of Miaojiang was also grateful to her.
Although the Grandmother had memory issues and treated Lu Yuan as a son-in-law, in Lu Yuan's eyes, it wasn't a problem at all.
Having an elderly family member was like having a treasure.
Moreover, having five generations under one roof was a blessing that many sought but couldn't find.
That stupid Lu family had no idea what they were missing. They didn't want this blessing, but the Governor's Mansion did!
"Bam! Hu la!" The Grandmother triumphantly threw down her cards, saying to the King of Miaojiang, "You've gone all in, pay up!"
King of Miaojiang: "You... went all in again? How much this time?"
Grandmother: "Five hundred taels!"
The inexperienced King of Miaojiang clumsily held his messy cards: This blessing was a bit expensive...
"Great-grandmother!" Meng Qianqian entered the room with quick steps, "Oh, Grandfather, you're here too?"
King of Miaojiang smiled, "My granddaughter-in-law is back. I'm playing cards with your great-grandmother, but I'm so clumsy I can't seem to learn."
Meng Qianqian asked, "Just the two of you?"
King of Miaojiang: "Yes."
Meng Qianqian curiously asked, "Isn't Leaf Cards played by four people?"
The King of Miaojiang was taken aback, and both he and Meng Qianqian looked at the Grandmother.
The Grandmother's eyes spun, and she waved her arms as she ran out, "Oh dear, great-grandson-in-law, you're back! Was the court tiring? Did anyone bully you?"
Tinglan Garden was filled with laughter and joy, and even Bai Yuwei could hear the family's cheerful voices from her room.
She impatiently tugged at the handkerchief in her hand.
A maid from the Governor's Mansion reported at the door, "Young Miss, the Young Madam is inviting you to dinner in Tinglan Garden."
Bai Yuwei coldly replied, "I'm not going!"
Bai Qingchen started to walk out.
Bai Yuwei stopped him, "You can't go either!"
Bai Qingchen turned to look at her, "Why not?"
Bai Yuwei glared at the maid outside the door, "Get out!"
"Yes, Young Miss."
The maid turned and left the courtyard.
Bai Yuwei said to Bai Qingchen, "Don't you think Grandfather is being unfair? I've endured so much, but he turns a blind eye and lets that woman discipline me!"
Bai Qingchen said, "Just listen to your sister-in-law."
Bai Yuwei was dissatisfied, "Why should I listen to her? Grandfather even gave her the Golden Silk Gu! If this continues, I'm afraid Grandfather will pass the throne of Miaojiang to them!"
Bai Qingchen softly replied, "Oh, then give it to them."
