Chapter 220: Advancement and Magic Wastage
"Truly a majestic Strength," Kai Xiusu couldn't help but sigh, standing before the spectral visions of Ancestral Dragons. Even the terrifying form of Tiamat seemed… incomplete, lacking something essential.
Yet his suspicion stirred: the Dragon Queen of old must have been far different from her current state. How could the divine being of the Dragon Pantheon—ruler of the Leadership World—have ever been reduced to such a mere, fragile manifestation of Divine Power?
But it was only speculation. Nothing more.
Kai Xiusu turned back to his Character Sheet, where a fresh cascade of notifications scrolled across his vision.
[You have slain 【Dragon-Frenzied Black Wizard-Wagner (Challenge Rating: 16)】, earning 15,000 Experience Points]
[You have slain 【White Dragon Shifter Centaur】]
[You have slain 【White Dragon Shifter Wolfman】]
[You have slain 【Wagner's Dragon Frenzy Spawn (Challenge Rating: 19)】, earning 22,000 Experience Points]
The destruction of the Tower of Eternal Night had granted him an immense flood of Experience Points—over fifty thousand in total. Adding the twenty thousand from the earlier defeat of 【Solem's Winter Incarnation】, he now had more than enough to advance to the next level, with a healthy surplus.
Most of these points came from Wagner and the monstrous forms he had taken, but even the Dragonized creatures encountered along the way had contributed significantly. If Kai Xiusu had been a standard Player Template with no Level Cap, these XP would’ve been enough to catapult him straight to level 15.
[You have chosen to level up 【True Dragon Mage】 to level 12]
[Due to Dragonborn Spellcasting, your current Spellcaster Level is: 15]
Kai Xiusu’s breath quickened in anticipation. His nostrils flared, exhaling thin, acrid plumes of sulfuric smoke.
A Spellcaster Level of fifteen—this was a new frontier for the True Dragon Mage. It meant he could now cast Eighth-Order Spells without external aid.
Reaching the eighth layer of the Weave of Magic—this was a realm few mages ever glimpsed in their entire lifetimes.
[You have gained an additional Dragon Spell: Magic Wastage]
Magic Wastage — 8th-level Evocation
The dragon unleashes a beam of Anti-Magic Energy from one raised claw. The dragon must succeed on a ranged touch attack roll to hit a target creature. On success, the beam dispels all magical effects—spells, spell-like abilities, and magical item effects—currently affecting the target. Additionally, any magic items carried by the target are permanently Demagiced, unless they succeed on a Willpower Check.
Kai Xiusu’s breath became sharp and urgent.
Anti-magic. Dispel effects. Permanent Demagicing of magic items.
"This… is the dragon’s version of Mordun’s Shatter?"
Mordun’s Shatter—a legendary spell from his past life—had earned a grim reputation. There were even reckless MagePlayers who sneaked into a deity’s temple, shattered a sacred chalice into a common drinking cup, and got exactly what they wished for: a divine curse that followed them for life.
They were hunted across the world by legendary guardians of the church, pursued for centuries. Only after signing a Slave Pact and agreeing to serve for three hundred years did they finally survive.
For Kai Xiusu, this spell was nothing short of a game-changer.
Spell Nullification Barrier could only block spells up to 5th level—long since outdated for his current battle scale. His enemies now were Frost Giant chieftains, Wagner—beings on the verge of Legendary status. Spells of 6th level and above were commonplace. Magic Wastage was the quantum leap his anti-magic arsenal desperately needed.
Had he possessed this spell earlier, he wouldn’t have needed to gather intelligence from Lanpu, nor spend endless hours plotting and calculating. He could’ve simply obliterated the Tower of Eternal Night in a single beam.
[You have gained an additional Dragon Spell: All-Seeing Eye]
All-Seeing Eye — 4th-level Divination / Evocation
For a brief moment, the dragon’s eye flares with brilliant light, opening its mind to every object within range. You gain an immense field of vision, allowing you to clearly perceive everything in your surroundings, and become immune to blindness. Additionally, if you have line of sight to a target, you can cast Fiendfire Effect on any invisible creature or object nearby—but doing so immediately ends the All-Seeing Eye.
"Interesting," Kai Xiusu murmured. "A blend of Divination and Evocation. The spell level is low, but the effect is undeniable."
He assessed it carefully. Heaven’s Judgment Dragon Eye was powerful—7th level—but even at his current Spellcaster Level, he could only cast it twice in a single day. All-Seeing Eye, on the other hand, filled the gap perfectly—ideal for situations where using a high-level spell would be overkill. It would save his precious spell slots, especially when precision mattered more than raw power.
As the new information flooded his mind, a wave of arcane knowledge surged through him—so overwhelming that the still-aching remnants of Dragon Madness flared once more, sending sharp pulses through his skull.
He’d cast 8th-level and even 9th-level spells before, using the Eye of the Storm Sovereign as a conduit. But that had been indirect—mere puppeteering through a tool. Now, he had to directly command the Eighth-Level Spell with his own will. The difference was night and day.
Just months ago, he’d first mastered a Seventh-Circle spell—his progress had been nothing short of explosive.
And as a Dragon Sorcerer, his spell memory far surpassed that of any ordinary Sorcerer. While most Sorcerers focused on mastering just a few spells—functioning like mobile spell batteries, mocked by mages as "barbarians with staves"—they still required deep understanding and mastery of their craft.
In short: Kai Xiusu’s Intelligence was simply not enough.
But he was level 12—four levels from his next attribute boost. He still had room.
[Your class level has increased to 12. You may choose: 2 points in common attributes, 1 point in a special attribute (for stats above 20), or one additional Specialization.]
[Choose to increase Intelligence to 16]
A surge of invisible strength flooded his mind. Instantly, clarity returned. His memory sharpened, his analytical skills sharpened, his logic flowed with newfound precision. His Intelligence now soared—approaching the level of Lanpu from seven years ago. Strange, perhaps. But effective.
The headache eased.
Kai Xiusu studied Magic Wastage in his mind. It bore a resemblance to Spell Nullification Barrier, but the complexity was exponentially greater—far beyond mere surface-level mechanics.
He’d need months to fully master it.
After all, the Red Dragon was a magical creature itself. If his Spell Mastery wasn’t absolute, one misfire could result in his own Anti-Magic Ray tearing him apart—a fate so absurd it would become legendary among Metal Dragons, a joke so infamous even Bahamut would laugh at it.
"Phew… finally done."
The Red Dragon exhaled, his consciousness settling back into his body. He slowly opened his eyes—only to freeze in shock.
Tinia had already licked his front claws clean, down to the last scratch. The claws now gleamed, polished smooth by her rough tongue, worn down almost to the point of developing a patina.
"Awooo~" The White Dragon looked up at him, utterly innocent, tongue lolling out, tail wagging, eyes full of eager devotion.
Kai Xiusu: "..."
Wild White Dragons really lack discipline. A full Transformation is absolutely necessary.
