Chapter 22: Uproar
Chapter 22: Uproar
On the 14th day of the 43rd year of Konoha, Kakashi Hatake graduated from the Ninja Academy with perfect scores across all subjects. He received the title of genin and was assigned the ninja registration number 010034.
This news spread throughout the Ninja Academy, eliciting awe and admiration from many. While he may not have graduated at the age of five and become a chunin at six like Kakashi Hatake, achieving perfect scores in every subject was no small feat. Kakashi Hatake was undoubtedly a genius!
Inside the classroom, the students buzzed with excitement as they discussed the latest news.
"Perfect scores in every subject... Kakashi's incredible," one student remarked.
"With Kakashi's abilities, he could have graduated early a long time ago. Perhaps he could even rival Kakashi Hatake. He simply chose not to," another student speculated.
Kurenai Yuhi and Nozomi Yamanaka, along with other girls in the class, admired Kakashi with starry-eyed expressions.
A genius!
Incredibly cool!
He had a sunny and gentle personality, coupled with maturity and stability.
Kakashi possessed countless admirable qualities, and one could hardly find a peer in the entire class whose radiance could rival his. At most, there were a few who felt unworthy and lacked the courage to pursue him.
"What's there to brag about..."
Obito Uchiha, irritated by the surrounding whispers and the behavior of Nozomi Yamanaka, couldn't help but voice his displeasure.
A boy sitting next to him chimed in angrily, "Hey, you're going too far with your praises... If he could have graduated early, why did he stay in school until now? Isn't that a waste of time?!"
"Yeah," some others murmured in agreement.
Hearing this, a girl in the class huffed and shot them a disdainful glance. "If you're so unhappy about it, why don't you apply for early graduation and challenge Kakashi yourself?"
Since the previous incident where Kakashi had decisively defeated Hinata Hyuga, his strength had become an indisputable fact.
The words of Nozomi Yamanaka left Obito and several other boys momentarily speechless, feeling a mix of frustration and the inability to retort.
Just then, Kiba Inuzuka burst into the classroom, his voice bordering on a howl as he broke the tense atmosphere. "I just overheard the teachers in the office talking about how Kakashi has applied to take the Chunin Exam in three days!"
"Huh?!
Kiba's announcement stunned the class into momentary silence, followed by an uproar.
Many eyes turned towards Kiba, their gazes filled with curiosity and disbelief.
"You must have misheard. Why would he sign up for the Chunin Exam? The Chunin Exams are no joke!" Shino Aburame frowned and challenged Kiba, his tone conveying his skepticism.
What was this about a Chunin Exam?
Hadn't Kakashi just passed the early graduation assessment? Signing up for the Chunin Exam right after was either a sign of madness or an overinflated ego!
Kiba glared at Shino, his eyes flashing with conviction. "There's no way I misheard. You can doubt my grades, but you can't doubt my hearing!"
As a member of the Inuzuka clan, renowned for their keen senses, Kiba's statement carried weight.
If Kiba's eavesdropping was accurate, it meant that Kakashi had indeed applied for the Chunin Exam right after passing the early graduation assessment!
"Is he trying to surpass Kakashi Hatake?"
"But it's ridiculous to sign up for the Chunin Exam right after graduating. I've heard from my family that ninjas from other villages will be participating in this exam. It's not going to be a simple test, and there might even be significant dangers involved!"
Several students wore expressions of disbelief, struggling to wrap their heads around this development.
Hearing Kiba's confirmation, one of their classmates gasped, "That guy's guts are too big. Does he know what the Chunin Exams entail? Even if he graduated early with perfect scores, it doesn't mean he can just casually sign up."
"He's probably too confident in his abilities," another chimed in.
...
Including Obito, the group was astir with this news, and even Kurenai Yuhi and others, who had previously admired Feng Ye for his perfect scores, wore troubled expressions.
As she listened to the surrounding discussions, Kurenai's face paled, and she breathed, "Why would Feng Ye sign up for this Chunin Exam...?"
Usually, the Chunin Exams within Konoha were relatively safe, testing ninjas on various skills. But when combined with other villages, the exams became a different matter entirely. Ninjas from different villages would not hold back, and casualties were inevitable!
And this particular Chunin Exam was especially treacherous, taking place during a tense shinobi world situation, making it as dangerous as a war!
"This..."
Rin Nohara hesitated, unsure. "Feng Ye should be aware of these considerations, right? Maybe he also thought about it and made his choice?"
Kurenai's expression grew solemn. "No, he might not know that ninjas from other villages will be participating. I have to go and find him to make him give up on this exam..."
At this point, Kurenai rushed out of the classroom.
She knew these details because her father, Kurenai Shinshu, was the main examiner for this Chunin Exam, and he had mentioned it during dinner the previous night!
"Kurenai!"
Seeing Kurenai dash out, Rin called after her. When she saw that Kurenai didn't respond, she hesitated briefly before following her out.
...
At Feng Ye's house.
Hearing Kurenai's urgent and anxious reminders and warnings, Feng Ye smiled and said, "You two came all this way just to remind me about this?"
"What I'm saying is true!" Kurenai insisted, seeing that Feng Ye still seemed relaxed and hadn't taken her words to heart. "This is information I got from my father, and he's the main examiner for this Chunin Exam. The news is reliable..."
Rin also looked at Feng Ye with a serious expression. "I know your abilities are probably not inferior to a Chunin's, but this Chunin Exam is too dangerous. You don't need to take this risk. It's better to wait and take the exam in six months."
"Alright, alright, I got it. Come in, and we can talk," Feng Ye said, seeing their concerned expressions. He shrugged helplessly and gestured for them to enter.
Kurenai didn't step inside but instead stamped her foot in frustration. "Hey, Feng Ye, are you even listening to me?!"
"..."
Feng Ye didn't answer. Instead, he glanced at both sides of the street and, seeing no one around, suddenly reached out, pulled Kurenai and Rin into the foyer, and closed the door with a bang.
